  • Great stuff! Congrats. Any video?
  • Welcome! I'm also in the Ribeiro family. I train at Maxercise in Philadelphia, under John Disimone. White belt, 3 stripes. Like you, I'm sitting at the desk most of the day. Keep up the good work.
  • I just started playing singles in a new league the other day. I've been playing mostly doubles for the past 3 years or so. It has been a big wake up call about my fitness level. Whereas I've played 5.0 for doubles, despite having a stronger baseline game, I'm really struggling against 4.5s due to a complete lack of cardio.…
  • I use the Head Radical Mid Plus Liquid Metal. Been using different iterations of the Head Radical for the last 15 years. Great stick. Unfortunately, I've gotten very, very lazy with stringing in the past few years and I have it strung with kevlar mains and poly cross. Needless to say, I don't break my strings too often. :…
  • Also, for the person who was introduced to BJJ by a white-belt: that's all a white belt is qualified to do, introduce you to BJJ. From there, you really should have instruction from at least a purple belt, preferably brown or black. Fundamentals are so crucial, to fail to learn proper fundamentals can lead to injury and…
  • Hey guys. I don't get alerts when someone posts in here, so I completely forgot about the group! lol Anyway, glad to see some other guys who train and want to stay fit/lose weight. My own training has taken quite a hit. We recently bought a house (November) and I'm in the leaving my job in Center City Philadelphia, so I've…
  • I'd also like to join! My name is Nick and I have around 40-50 pounds to lose. I've struggled off and on with weight all my life, but the last 3 years have really been the worst. I'm currently at 208 pounds, which is 2 off of my peak weight. My healthy weight tends to be between 160 & 170. So far my current goal weight is…
  • Hi! I was really glad to see this group. I'm an avid tennis player who's game has suffered greatly from weight gain. I played some D2 College tennis in Pennsylvania in a little over 10 years ago. Following that I played for fun, then stepped up my game in 2005-2006 to start playing some Mens Open tournaments in…
  • That's great to hear and really inspiring! Congratulations on all of your hard work. My whole game has changed as a result of my weight gain. I'm no longer patient in points, because I worry that if the points last too long, I won't make it through the match. Having to account for lack of fitness in strategy is for the…

  • Is this only for women? I'd like to be a in a supportive group as well! If it's only for women, I understand, if not then I'd like an invite!
  • I also, only use the sparring portion of the workout for bjj calculations. Usually that's around 20-30 minutes at my school discounted for rests. We do a 15-20 minute warmup/circuit which I may count, but usually forget to, then instructions for 30-40 minutes which I don't count at all, then the sparring which is usually…
  • Thanks for all the quick replies! Very helpful.
  • I am! My wife and I live near the zoo.
  • I'm no expert/doctor/dietitian, but my understanding of the program is this: You put your goals in for weight loss, as well as your current weight/height and activity level. If that is all true, then recommended calories, etc, are calculated for you to make that goal. That means that you should aim to eat your calorie…
  • I train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 3-4 times a week. It's an intense workout and maybe too intimidating for some due to the live sparring, but if you find the right gym it's a great skill to have. I found a nice gym in Philadelphia. It has mixed ages, genders, and athletic abilities. It's a major part of my weight loss
  • Welcome! Make some friends, you can start with me. Keep logging in, even when you don't like what you have to report. That's what I've been doing and I've seen some good progress. Nick
  • From a video game standpoint, many of these games aren't great, but if you do them often and correctly, they are certainly good for burning calories and firming the body. I have a Wii and Wii fit, and I recently got a Kinect. I haven't enjoyed video games since I was in high school, but these active games are great for…
  • Thank you all very much for the advice. Your posts raise another question: should I be using a shake as a meal replacement or as a supplement?
  • It varies. Sometimes I'm done by 8, sometimes by 9. I hate eating that late, but I know I gotta eat.
  • Brocolli has calories, but it also has a lot of nutrients that our bodies need, including, Vitamin A & C, Calcium, and iron. And it's very low calorie for all that it gives you. I'm not a nutritionist or a doctor, but if everything has calories, it's reasonable to focus on the benefits per calorie.
  • Thanks. That's what I assumed, but I just wanted check with others.
  • I've had reoccurring back problems. One of the issues for me has been that I'd work out a lot, and eat in accordance with that lifestyle. Then, when my workouts were halted by my back, sometimes up to six weeks, I would continue to eat like I was when I was working out, and I'd put on 10-15 pounds in that time frame. MFP…
