  • I often don't log restaurant meals, I just put it in the notes. I don't eat out that much anymore so I don't worry about the odd meal I can't track.
  • I went to a yoga retreat with a friend and they had a phenomenal vegetarian chef so we ate awesome food the whole weekend. On the drive back, we stopped at Swiss Chalet (Canadian chain for broiled chicken, ribs, fries etc) and we were both pretty disappointed. It just seemed so flavourless and nutritionally void.
  • Same. I refocused my weight loss efforts at the beginning of this month (after losing 20 pounds last year) and the only thing I've craved was a turkey sandwich. If I'm going to treat myself, it's going to be a quality burger and not McDonald's cardboardy garbage. My sugar cravings have also gone away too.
  • No. A pound is a pound. Fat just takes up more space.
  • I'm the other way around. I find it easier to watch my eating than to exercise. Cooking my own food has helped me greatly...I eat out maybe once or twice a week and the "splurge" is ok but I keep it in check the rest of the time.

  • I travel quite a bit (usually two weeks max) and I don't worry too much. I haven't gained any weight on my last few trips. Basically I stick to drinking lots of water, eating fresh food, being mindful of portion sizes/eating one big meal and two smaller ones, limiting fried food and keeping up physical exercise (whether…
  • Living off packaged food doesn't teach you good eating habits. What will you do when you get off those programs?
  • This definitely isn't "80% healthy."
  • I don't think you have to be 100% "clean" (I'm certainly not) but I'd be starving if I ate this junk all day. Nutritionally dense food CAN be lower in calories and also keep you feeling fuller, so I don't think this kind of eating is good advice. I believe that losing weight should go hand in hand with improving health.
  • I'm the same...I take a bottle with me when I go out, and at home I try to keep a bottle in the fridge (sometimes infused with lemon or other fruit) so I can grab it and keep it in front of me while I'm on the computer, watching TV etc.
  • Doritos, crackers, Snickers and ice cream? Where's the nutrition?
  • Unsweetened almond milk has less than half the calories of skim milk. I recently bought Trader Joe's Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate...making a smoothie with vanilla protein powder and some kind of milk sounds amazing.
  • My biggest issues were portion size, a sweet tooth (which has since faded away, yay!) and laziness...constantly eating take-out instead of cooking at home.
  • Will you be at home during this time? Could you pre-cook some meals and keep them in the fridge/freezer?
  • Fresh, tasty fruit seems to satisfy the cravings...kiwi, pineapple, mango etc., a small, portion-controlled cup of something - apple sauce, chocolate or rice pudding, flavoured yogurt etc., those 100-calories packages of yogurt-covered pretzels and the like, an iced treat (like a yogurt bar or fruit ice). I've also found…
  • I was good all day yesterday until dinner when I binged (for me) on a huge serving of take-out noodles, chicken dumplings and two cupcakes. I realized that when I get super-tired, I crave carbs, especially sugary ones, and my willpower is zero. Back on track today, did an extra long workout and got some sleep!
  • Can you get a salad with some kind of protein on top?
  • Well, that is just insane. You should be so proud.
  • Yes, because I'm going to Memphis...and I will eat ALL the BBQ. But it's only 4 days, we'll be doing lots of walking and I might be able to convince my friends to hit the gym with me. Trying to go in with the mindset of allowing only one meal/day to be on the large side but who knows where we'll find ourselves...plus I…
  • You're right! Sorry for the confusion.
  • Click on "settings" at the top of this page.
  • 34 pounds is amazing! So don't let 1lb discourage you...I know it's hard but I did the same when I seemed to go up/plateau for a few weeks. I think because I had used an especially salty bottled sauce in my cooking, I was retaining water. When I did my monthly weigh-in at the gym, my weight loss was still continuing. It's…
  • I don't know if I will lose enough to worry about excess skin...but my bras are already too big after 20/25 pounds lost. :( I also worry about the money I'll have to spend on new clothes. I bought a lot last year, before I decided to lose weight. :( And even though I feel an inherent change in the way I relate to food and…
  • One day's not going to hurt. Just be good before/after, kick the workouts up a notch etc.
  • I would say that changing my eating habits has had the most impact but the gym has also made a huge difference. I've been going on and off for years but have been more dedicated the last three months. I work out with a trainer 2x/week and also have tried all kinds of classes to figure out what I enjoy. It's now become a…
  • I love milkshakes too and have found that since I started making smoothies, my desire to drink ice cream-based milkshakes has disappeared.
  • Some hotels have fitness TV channels where you can order a workout on demand, or an exercise kit you can borrow from the front desk. Also agree with the suggestions of bringing your own DVDs, doing a body weight workout (try the You Are Your Own Gym books, DVDs and app for phone or tablet), going for a run or walk and…
  • You couldn't have gained a pound of fat in 2 days. Weight fluctuates constantly throughout the day, and from day to day. Best to refrain and weigh yourself once a week (or less), in the same place, on the same scale, under the same conditions. Also the salt in popcorn is likely causing you to retain water.
  • Just this morning I made fritatta "muffins" with shrimp, mint, cheese and red onion. You can make a combo like that with any meats/veggies, then just bake in muffin tins.
  • I can only imagine how difficult it is to recover from an illness like this. Always remember that you are a worthy person who deserves to live a long, healthy and happy life!
