  • Great tips - keep them coming please!
  • Very interested but how does this work exactly? Will you assign challenges/workouts etc or are we logging weekly weight???
  • Ok so an update to this GREAT thread - I have been reading through everyone's replies over the past week or so and am just back from my first outdoor run ALL BY MYSELF! ' So dear OP - believe me when I say that when hardly anyone in the busiest park in town at lunchtime on a rare sunny day here in Oslo town noticed me and…
  • As well as interval training to improve speed and stamina, I would recommend finding a running group near you. When I was in the UK (moved out to Oslo a few years ago), I ran with a local runnign group and I noticed my fitness, weight and ability to run MUCH further improve in literally a month or so! "Running sisters" are…

  • Lots of great advice here - I think you can only really begin to get over your fear of running in public by doing it sadly. But should it help, there are CLEARLY lots of people who feel the same as you. I am very much using the same excuses to not run in my local gorgeous park at present but I know the only person I…

  • As a beginner, I would recommend going along to a few group classes, maybe try some aerobics or zumba or if you fancy a challenge, a bikes class? Also most gyms have a free-PT session or at least initial programme set-up so found out what they offer. Just ask at your gym and they should be able to point you in the right…

  • Very well said - particularly the bit about people around you being beginners once too!
  • OK, lots of varying opinions here but my two-penneth worth is that spinning classes are exhausting but brilliant. However, I think it's really all about how much you put in - when the instructor tells you to up the resistance or go flat out, it's your call whether you do or not. Personally, I have a love/hate relationship…
  • Update time: 1st May - 110 mins (30 mins spinning/40 mins weights class/40 mins walking) 2nd May - 45 mins (35 mins cycling/10 mins walking) 3rd May - 30 mins (15 mins cycling/15 mins walking) 4th May - nowt 5th May - 62 mins (62 mins running) 6th May - nowt 7th May - 33 mins (33 mins walking) 280/1440 All of a sudden, I…
  • I am tempted to include "swaying" since I did a fair bit of that at a Lemonheads gig last night  But am guessing it wasn't much of a calorie burn anyway! 1st May - 110 mins (30 mins spinning/40 mins weights class/40 mins walking) 2nd May - 45 mins (35 mins cycling/10 mins walking) 3rd May - 30 mins (15 mins…
  • Don't beat yourself up about this - so you slipped up, it happens sadly. Rather than let it get you down, celebrate your achievement in finishing up uni and your dissertation and now get back to being good. I am really pants at motivating myself so I have signed up for the 24 hours (1440 mins) exercise in May challenge -…
  • While any efforts last night were somewhat negated by my dinner and boozing, I'm still counting it  1st May - 110 mins (30 mins spinning/40 mins weights class/40 mins walking) 2nd May - 45 mins (35 mins cycling/10 mins walking) 155/1440 - not a bad start I reckon!
  • I am IN! This sounds like a great tough challenge for the month. 1st May - 110 mins (30 mins spinning/40 mins weights class/40 mins walk) Let's hope the rest of the month continues in this vein eh?! Edit: 110/1440
  • BUMP! What challenges are there for May? I only found the April ones halfway thro the month so am keen to join in this month....
  • Checking in for this challenge: Friday, March 30th: 151.2 lbs (68.6 kgs) Friday, April 6th: ??? Friday, April 13th: 149.4 lbs (67.77 kgs) Friday, April 20th: Friday, April 27th Woo hoo - 1.8lbs lost so far - testament to my aching body. Everything hurts :grumble:
  • Absolutely - as is people thinking you're younger! Take it for the compliment it is and keep going with your efforts. Also, I totally agree with the muscle weighing more than fat thing so next time when someone is surprised just say "yeah I'm still working on the massive muscles thing but they're getting there" and laugh…
  • Keep resisting! Or if you really need to graze, go with carrots and cucumber or nuts maybe? And try to walk even just an additional 15-30 mins a day and you WILL see results. Good luck!
  • Hello, I realise that we're already 10 days into the month but I would still like to join this challenge! My goal for now is to lose 11lbs (around 4/5 kgs) by mid-June so if I can manage anywhere near half of that this month, I will feel amazing  So my current weight is: 151.2 lbs / 68.6 kgs Here goes!
  • Do I drink? Well, it's Friday evening at long last after a fairly tough week so I will most certainly be having a "few" glasses tonight! Like other people have mentioned, I'll try to make sensible choices and keep close to my daily aim but I'm not going to stress lots about it. Will simply work that bit harder in the gym…
  • It's def mood (and TOTM) dependant and while we all give in and wear those baggy trousers, tie our hair back etc, it's on these exact days that we need to put on one of our fave outfits....! I have tried this and it does seem to help/work but in my case I am often tired, frumpy and feeling "ugly" on days when just the…
