Manitoba Harvest has a chocolate hemp protein that I've read tastes pretty decent. I haven't actually tried it--I just use their plain protein powder (Hemp 70) in smoothies. I don't have the courage to try it with just water.... Re: the hemp seeds/hemp hearts, they actually taste pretty good, just nutty, none of the pond…

Congratulations on the great start! I hear you on the belly fat--that was what inspired me to start, the "is she pregnant or just fat?" belly. Crazy what happens when the hormones start changing. I find that eating better not only helps with the weight, but helps with the mood swings as well. It's not perfect, but the…

Whole Foods had a one day sale on cherries yesterday for $1.99/lb, which is quite cheap by NYC standards (I can find them on the street in Chinatown for that price, but the quality isn't great). I thought I was bad buying 4 lbs, my mother bought 14! She cans, though....

This is me, too. If I ask myself "do I want to get up early and go to the gym?" or "do I want to plan tomorrow's food and pack my breakfast/lunch/snacks now instead of chilling out with my husband?" the answer will never be yes. But when I do get to the gym before work and have a day of healthy food ready, I'm always happy…

Don't think you're doing anything wrong--you're just two inches shorter than most of the people answering the question. I'm 5'9 and bounce between 155-160; I am generally an 8 but still doing 10 in dresses as my shoulders/chest are pretty large.

Re: pills being too big to swallow, I had that problem when I first started supplementing iron--I was doing the Solgar "Gentle Iron" or something like that and I felt like it was getting stuck in my throat every day, plus it wasn't as gentle on my stomach as I had hoped and didn't get my iron levels back up very quickly. I…

Here are my stats for reference: I'm 5'9". I originally set my goal at 165 based on the lowest I'd been comfortably in recent memory (I was 147 at one point as an adult but was seriously hyperthyroid and had no muscle). I mentioned this to one of my doctors and she suggested trying between 155-160. While this sounded…

Your face and neck look much thinner--keep up the great work!

I hear you--I was definitely in the "well I'm in perimenopause and I'm hypothyroid and and and so what if I have no waist!" stage for a while. But as others have said, losing the weight isn't just about the number on the scale or the looks--I've also dropped my blood pressure and my cholesterol significantly. I've built up…

I'm just here to watch that cat fight for his broccoli. (Oh, OK, this is an awesome thread too.)

So awesome--congratulations to both of you!

Very good advice from FireOpalCO on the dress thing, and from previous posters on not wanting to look sick for your wedding! When I spent time on wedding boards I saw way too many frantic last minute "OMG MY DRESS DOESN'T FIT" posts. Wedding planning is stressful enough without bringing that on yourself.

Is it possible that the Bodymedia is calculating your burns too high? It sounds like you're doing some serious workouts, and it looks like you're about 10 years younger than me so you should still have a decent metabolism, but TDEE of 2700 sounds quite high, especially if you're not that overweight.

Happy Friday! Thanks for link, Beeps! So I tried P90X at my office gym today.... hmmm, not so sure I'm up for it. Higher impact than I'm used to, plus by Friday I'm already pretty sore (my burpees were a mess today with my jello legs!). But I think I'll try to give it another chance next week.

Hey cool kids! I'm giving myself a pat on the back for getting up this morning and getting in to the gym before work. Of course, the woman I saw running outside as I was walking there probably deserves a bigger prize, but..... I am so amazed anyone can run and breathe in this weather. Very much looking forward to it going…

It's been said already, but you rock--what an awesome positive attitude you have! Here's to an even better 2014! (And white potatoes rule.)

Welcome back, Alf, and welcome to all the new cool kids! I am so torn about getting up tomorrow morning to go to the gym--I know the amounts of snow we're expecting in NYC are much lower than in other places, but combining that with the crazy low temps.... I am not looking forward to it. Got a good workout in with my…

Happy New Year everyone! KellySue, those pictures are so great--you look wonderful! Kicking the last med would be an awesome NSV. Let's see, fitness goals for the year.... My company has finally extended the cash rebate for going to the gym regularly to all health plans, so I'm eligible this year! So definitely working out…

Hello cool kids! Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday. Stepping back on the scale on Sunday sounds like a good plan to me, too. I usually work out with my trainer on Thursdays but since she's away did a TRX class instead--man, that was tough! The office gym will be closed tomorrow for renovations so I'll have to get a good…

Hi cool kids! Been having motivation issues with keeping my eating in line lately, so I haven't been stopping by much, but I know I should be back here.... Stoshew71, welcome back to beautiful NJ! Certainly a better weekend for traveling than last weekend would have been. caramelgyrlk, let us know how those sneakers are! I…

OK, so apart from all the advice you've received on changing around your lifting routine, I would say don't make up your mind that you can never be less than a size 12. I am 5'9", started this journey at 184 (squeezing into a 12, probably really a 14 but I wasn't honest with myself). I assumed that I could never wear…

Hi cool kids! Came back from Thanksgiving weekend away with the in-laws and went straight into a work dinner last night.... Now it's time to get my eating back under control. We just bought tickets for winter vacation and I've got to not hate myself in a bathing suit, at the very least!

Smokin', Beeps! So after my last two workouts (both fairly heavy cardio) I have had uncontrollable sneezing and nose-blowing for a couple of hours. Doesn't happen while I'm working out, does eventually go away, but for a few hours I feel seriously run down. Dr. Google talks about exercise-induced allergies, and it sounds a…

Yay for pictures, KellySue! You both look so gorgeous and so happy. Love the color of your dress!

Another "originally from NJ" person! Beeps, I hear you on the sun, it's one of the harder things about winter. When I lived in Tokyo I did appreciate that it was usually sunny in the winter (and rarely went below freezing). Winters in NYC aren't as cold as where you are, but they are grey, so we try to get away to…

Beeps, I knew you were badass, but seriously, if I lived somewhere it was -27 degrees, I would have zero motivation to actually lose weight. I think I would just crawl under the covers and hibernate for the winter.

I hear ya! This is how I spend part of Tuesday and Thursday evenings so I can do early classes Weds and Fri. It is getting harder and harder to drag myself to the subway in the dark but I am determined to keep it up.

Went in to my doctor this morning to retest cholesterol and thyroid. He seemed surprised I'd lost another 10 pounds since May (why, I am not sure. He also cautioned that heavy weights could make me bulky, and that I should stick with low weights/high reps for "toning". No, not the bulky!! I like him as a doctor, but I may…

TGIF, cool kids! KellySue, sounds like things are a bit overwhelming, but wonderful! Definitely let us see pics of what you wear for the wedding. Beeps, good luck with your class tomorrow! I've been away a few weekends lately and letting myself eat whatever I want, and sure enough I can see it on the scale and on my belly.…

I think you may find 1200 really difficult--give it a shot, but something in the 1600-1800 range may be more comfortable, and still let you lose weight, with the amount of exercise you're doing.
