  • Wow, I sure wasn't very mindful this past week. Ate an entire can of smoked almonds (mindlessly) and ended up with a weight gain of nearly 4 pounds for the week. Yikes! Planning to do much better this coming week.
  • I worked on being mindful about what I was eating and how it made me feel. I was able to confirm that cheese is a problem for me, digestion-wise, and so will moderate consumption and see if that helps things along better. I also enjoyed an alcoholic beverage (or two) every evening after work, and was aware of setting a bad…
  • I love zen habits! It's the most amazing site and has really helped me in many ways, not just with eating, but that's a great start. Love this monthly challenge. Along with my usual goal to lose 2 pounds this month, I will also focus on the mindfulness and awareness of how food and exercise really affect me, mentally and…
  • This month I achieved my goal of losing 2 pounds, despite a weekend of "carbocide" (thanks @Karlottap for that word!). I buckled down after that weekend and lost everything I'd gained plus an extra two pounds, ending the month down a little over 2 pounds. Onederland is getting closer!
  • Your story is so inspiring! Congrats on choosing to step up to the challenge, and best wishes for continued success.
  • Thanks for the info. Got it installed and running - kinda weird not to see the calorie column but I think I can get used to it! :) I like being able to focus on the macros.
  • February has been a roller-coaster month for me. Lost 1.6 pounds this past week, but that's half of what I gained back this month - so the only win is that I'm back on track but still behind where I started the month. Hoping for a better week in week 4!
  • Drat that lying scale! It says I am up 3 pounds this morning. But it may not be lying because I did some overindulging this past week. On to this week and renewed effort!
  • @baconslave , I don't know if this suggestion will help, or if it would be prohibitively expensive, but some years ago my ophthal. put plugs in my eye drainage ducts to help keep moisture on the front of my eyeballs. I had very dry eyes too. This may be something to look into?
  • Just as it takes time for your blood sugar levels to rise, it also takes time for them to lower. The LCHF way of eating will improve your post-meal numbers first, as you reduce carbs in each meal. Your fasting number is generally the last reading to lower and can take several months to achieve. Are you seeing improved…
  • Whee - another pound down for the first week of February! That's a total of 6.8 since January 1st, so nice and consistent weight loss so far. Unfortunately, I did not ride the bike at all this week, but I did a bit of walking with a friend. 3 laps around our office building twice a day. The goal was to do 20 minutes 3x a…
  • @motown13, I feel your pain! Love scrapple and miss it so much.
  • @PaleoInScotland, that's me too! I'm planning a trip to Italy next year, and I want to be able to enjoy the trip and not feel exhausted. Good luck on your 29 mile goal.
  • I'm in as well. To Love my Health this month, I'm going to commit to riding my recumbent bike a minimum of 3 times a week, for at least 20 minutes each session. Other than that, keep on with my LCHF diet - I lost a total of 5.8 pounds in January and think it could be even more with consistent exercise.
  • It is hard to wrap your mind around the higher fat, but that is truly what makes this diet work so well. I've been eating LCHF for four years now (although not as consistently as I should) and lost weight quite easily in the first six months or so. Now I find I need to monitor portion control (aka, calories) in order to…
  • Forgot to post progress last week, but here I am for week 4. Gained back 0.8 pounds these past two weeks, but I still ended the month with an overall loss of 4.6 pounds, which is double my goal of only 2 pounds. Did log in every day, but wasn't faithful about the meal details. It really does make a difference for me, if I…
  • Week 2 goals were to simply keep on keepin' on by logging every day and moving an extra 20 minutes daily. I did log daily and exercised 4 days, so all to the good. Also lost another pound, so yay me!
  • Checking in after completing week 1: my goals were to focus on getting back into eating keto and logging daily - both of these have been accomplished. Another goal was to increase activity by 20 minutes a day and I partially accomplished that by riding a bike 4 times. The most exciting thing, though, is that I'm down 4…
  • Welcome to all. It's exciting to see the low carb way of eating gaining so much momentum. Hope it works for all the newbies as well as it has for me!
  • Cortisone is known to elevate blood sugar levels while taking it and also for sometimes a long time afterwards. So that may be the reason for your increased A1c. It's generally best to avoid all steroid medications if at all possible (I know, sometimes it just isn't).
  • I like using pork rinds as a coating for meats too - never tried it on fish. Glad to hear it was tasty!
  • Welcome! I've been here for a while too, with lots of ups and downs. This group offers outstanding support for low carb and keto lifestyle, as well as lots of interesting discussion and research links. You'll do great!
  • Y'all are my inspirations to keep on the keto path (especially Karlottap). This is my third day in a row logging every bite and I've managed to get in a little extra activity too. Carbs are a bit higher than I'd like, but that will improve as I get back in the groove. Thanks for this thread and the chance to be accountable!
  • I fell off the wagon big time in December (the wagon backed over me a couple times, I think) so my January goal is just to get back into the keto groove as quickly as possible, log every day and shoot for a mere 20 minutes of extra activity daily.
  • @GaleHawkins, thanks for the Wobenzym suggestion, I will look that up too. I wasn't familiar with leaky gut, so that's kind of an eyeopener. I've been eating keto for several years now, but do have a huge stress load from work, so perhaps that is the real culprit. I don't suffer from IBS, allergies, arthritis, etc. - just…
  • Wow, when I read these posts, with @carlsoda worried about a high 4 crp, and @sarahkat81 with a 9 and the docs didn't want to let her return to work, I get really scared. My hs-crp result was 27 and my doctor just kind of shrugged and said, we'll test again in 6 months and see if it's going down. Sheesh. Maybe I need to…
  • Looks like a great first aid kit! I always keep bouillon cubes at the ready - I find the hot broth very comforting. And between that and the magnesium supplement, my leg and foot cramps are greatly reduced.
  • Week 2 check in - not so great. I ended up with a low blood pressure episode that knocked me for a loop. I did not do my two days of IF in week 2 because I was so dizzy and lightheaded. Did not start my exercise program either. But did manage to eat pretty simply, mostly just meat, salads and lots of eggs. The good news in…
  • That is just outstanding. You worked hard for this success and you deserve it. Fingers crossed that the Victoza goes away soon as well.
  • Not so much progress this week, but did keep the two fasting days this week. Weight bounced around and ended up with a zero weight loss, but my fasting blood sugar has been in the 80's several times, which is an amazing win. Foods were pretty simple, meat and non-starchy vegs with extra butter.
