  • yup, the old "There was a problem with your request Sorry, but a server error occurred processing your request. Our team has been notified of the issue." It's getting tiring dealing w/ the continuous outages on their end, time to start looking at alternatives!
  • love the advice that as long as your logging everything & within your caloric goal you're doing fine.....um no
  • I eat potato chips....that's what I do. It's not hard to find another way to save 120 calories & eat a handful of potato chips instaed. I don't get too carried away with the hype that I can't have some potato chips when I want. Life's too short lol
  • If you are not entering an exercise session manually in MFP then I fail to see how you would be doubly counting it when you sync your smart watch. If you're unsure though you might contact Garmin and or MFP (I believe one or the other should be able to explain how their interface works).
  • i disagree....I haved tried a number of trackers over the past year (including the original vivofit) & sent them all back, for one reason or another. I recently purchased the Vivofit 2 & it is by far the best one I've owned. Garmin solved the problems they had w/ the original vivo in this updated release & it now performs…
  • hi mari7a, sorry I lost track of this & never saw your response. I wasn't comparing the two (MFP vs Garmin Connect), I was just commenting that the daily BMR estimate on Garmin Connect seemed to vary an awful lot. Based on what I have read on the subject, your daily BMR should not change (unless of course you input a…
  • another vote for the Vivofit but I would wait for the Vivofit 2, which appears very near ready to begin shipping. I have tried the Fitbit Charge & the Vivofit platforms & I like the fact that the latter never has to be charged. The very last thing I need is another electronic device to keep charged. The Vivofit 2 has some…
  • to the OP, if you didn't pull the trigger on the Vivofit, I would wait awhile longer....Garmin is releasing the Vivofit 2 sometime in the first quarter. There is already a place to preorder it on Amazon. I like the Vivofit platform better than Fitbit (those are the only two I've tried), mainly due to the fact that I don't…
  • Not for anyone in particular but I have been using the Vivofit for 8 days now & one quirk I can't figure out is why the estimate the app gives for daily BMR calories varies so much. What little I know about BMR leads me to believe it is a factor determined by height, weight, age & gender so on a daily basis I thought it…
  • Green & Black's is definately a premium brand so I think you were already discriminating enough to get the benefit of a lowered sugar content :) I agree w/ the others that maybe you indulged a bit too much & in a few hours you'll be fine. I'm a dark chocoholic & try to allow myself a small portion each day. A small portion…
  • lets see....100 gram bar is more than twice the size of the standard convenience store candy bar here in the States, which is typically around 1.5 ounces. So yes, that was quite a binge, but you already know that :) as far as sugar content in dark chocolate compared to milk chocolate it typically is less but how much less…
  • I don't pay any attention to the sugar content of fresh fruit & I am basically down to my chart weight after losing approx. 95 lbs in 2 years. So make what you will of that. That being said, what you described above would make up about three servings of fruit for me. For example, when I eat grapes for a snack its usually…
  • I lost 90 lbs in 2 years & received only a passing comment or two from people at work & those were people that I hadn't seen in quite a while who could not contain their surprise. After thinking on it some, I attributed it to a number of factors. #1 we live in a politically correct world now where comments in the office…
  • What was the first thing you changed to get healthy? ....Committed to regular exercise. What was the hardest for you to change? ....The above. what is your start weight? ....265+ What is your current weight? ....176 What is the best part of your journey? ....The approving looks from women, being healthier & buying new…
  • My daughter-in-law has celiac so I have learned to cook gluten free alternatives for when she & my son come to visit. But it's important to know that (& I remind her of this all the time) my kitchen is far from a certified gluten free environment. All the utensils, cookware, food prep surfaces, etc. are all used at various…
  • lol....I was trying to be subtle so there wouldn't be a run on it at the grocery store where I shop :)
  • I'm going to put in a vote for Talenti gelato.....I like it better than ice cream because it's smoother, creamier & softer. I like virtually all the Talenti flavors but my personal favorite is Sea Salt Caramel.
  • Personally I don't even track sugar. I am not one to add sugar to anything I eat, including coffee, cereal, etc. & I don't eat a lot of processed foods so the naturally occurring sugar in fruit & veggies would be one of the last things I would worry about. All things in moderation IMO and a wise woman once told me, "A…
  • 1) eating anything I want but faithfully entering what I eat in my MFP food diary & staying under my assigned calorie limit & as close as possible to my calculated metrics. 2) exercising (in my case walking briskly for an hour) 6 of 7 days per week (Monday is typically my day of rest). log into MFP daily & repeat the above…
  • Since I am pretty close to my target weight that seemed unthinkable some months ago, I see no reason to change now. Why tinker w/ success? That plus a woman (a stranger, no less) told me I have "nice legs" at the trail system where I walk the other day. So that's enough motivation for me to continue logging indefinately,…
  • The hardest part by far is the commitment to change. That took me literally years lol. Once committed, the weight loss has been easy. I firmly believe that's what causes a lot of people to fail.....they think they want to get in shape & lose weight but they really don't. By that I mean by way of prioritizing, they place a…
  • I was wondering the same thing after I've blown thru 2 of my "target" weights (so far) on my way down. I'm inclined not to use a stat (like BMI) or a generic height/weight chart. I decided I will go by a combination of the following factors (listed in no particular order of importance): 1) What I look like in the mirror w/…
  • I love to walk. I've been walking 15-24 miles a week for a year & a half & have lost 75 lbs. doing so. With none of the lower leg problems you read about that runners can get ie., shin splints, stress fractures etc. So when people i know tell me I should take up running I tell them thanks but no thanks....I'll stick to…
  • Ideas: Orange juice fortified w/ Calcium & Vitamin D. Cheese for calcium. Yoghurt for both Calcium & Potassium. Look for brands that actually list the Potassium, some do, some don't. Fresh Fruits & veggies for Potassium. V8 (Low Sodium type) is great for Potassium. For a potassium boost there is a salt substitute call…
  • Entering your own food items in the database is (in most cases) undesireable, unecessary & just not practical. For example if there are 1 million users & they all decide to enter "Generic medium red potato" then that creates a million database entries when really only one is needed. What you should do is see how many…
  • Believe it or not, as I was checking the weather on accuweather.com, I noticed they had a story headlined: "Sharknado Debunked: Ridiculous Plot Points Exposed".....for real
  • You're not going to a 'strip club'
  • Where I live I have a favorite place I like to go walking. When I go I notice a lot of women (of all ages) doing the same thing. They frequently can be seen together in pairs or groups of three & almost always chatting up a storm while they walk. They seem to be quite happy doing this. So I would try to find someone to…
  • A goal is a desired result a person sets for themselves. It's great to meet a goal but I would argue that it's even better to outperform that goal. In fact in most US businesses today the reward is greater for people that outperform their goals. Meeting your goal is the minimum level of performance expected today. So…
