  • I have a similar issue. I have Hashimoto's. My thyroid levels (free T3 and free T4) are always in the low to low normal range and I seem to have mostly hypothyroid symptoms and never feel right anymore. But my TSH for the last couple of years has been close to zero which makes zero sense. My doctor and her PA will test for…
  • My blood test results after six months gluten-free and soy-free are pretty much what they were before the diet. My thyroid anti-bodies are still very high but not quite as high as before. My T4 is low normal, my TSH is very low. Right where they were before. Looks like I'll be eating gluten again.
  • Thanks Fuzzipeg. I'll check out Dr. Hedberg. It is disappointing that gluten-free doesn't appear to be the answer for me. Any answer would be welcome at this point. On the upside there are many foods that I will be happy to eat again.
  • It's now been six months of gluten-free/soy-free living and...I really don't feel any different than I did before. I had a blood test last week but don't have the results yet. I'm curious to see if there is any improvement in my thyroid antibodies. My fingernails did seem to start growing longer after I started eating…
  • I have Hashi's. My latest doctor started me on a gluten and soy free diet two months ago. Since then I've been feeling completely stressed out and anxious (work isn't helping with that). I went on the diet to see if gluten and soy were triggering my immune system. Maybe the diet has helped and my thyroid is functioning…
  • Thanks again Lindsey. I really appreciate you taking the time. I didn't really mean that going gluten-free is "trendy". Just that my doctor abandoning the elimination diet after two weeks and going to "never eat this again" felt a bit unscientific to me and made me question her a little. I'd like to know if gluten and…
  • Thanks Lindsey. I see my doctor again in a couple of weeks. I'll see what she says about adding things back in. She wasn't very clear about the process. And her saying to never eat gluten again doesn't seem like a very scientific way of figuring out if its a problem. My fear is that she's just being trendy. My trust of…
  • I have been tested for celiac among other things and it was negative. My doctor advised going gluten-free based on my high antibody levels. She thinks it could be triggering my immune system. She also said not to eat oats, even gluten-free, as they could do the same thing. But what about other grains, like rice and corn.…
  • I've been on Armour Thyroid for about 4 years. I also take vitamin D and a multi-vitamin. The doctor added probiotics and fish oil. I also take a calcium supplement so timing everything and remembering to take them all is a challenge. I've had lots of blood tests over the last 6 months and everything else is okay. My…
  • Thanks for the replies. The doctor suggested an elimination diet that cut out gluten, soy, corn and dairy for 3 weeks and then we would add them back in and see how I reacted. When I went back for a scheduled visit after two weeks I felt the same - tired, achy, all the typical symptoms. She then said that I should cut out…
  • As other posters have said, alternating between the doses may do the trick. I'm alternating between 105 and 90 of Armour Thyroid right now. 105 gave me hyper symptoms - heart palpitations and anxiety. I've been alternating for about a week and my hyper symptoms are gone but I feel so tired. I hope I'm not going hypo. Work…
  • I'm very interested in any answers to this question too. I'm not too happy with life right now either. I hit bottom over and over again and then pick myself up and try to regroup. But I'm really tired of living life this way. I'm at the mercy of my thyroid hormones and don't seem to have any control over them. My doctor's…
  • Armour Thyroid is natural desiccated thyroid so it has both T4 and T3 and its very inexpensive, at least where I live. Synthroid (just T4) did nothing for my symptoms. I still have my thyroid and have Hashimoto's so my symptoms and weight are still up and down all the time.
  • @allergic - I so wish I could find the answer to keeping things working right. I hate not having control over this. My TSH has been very low recently (close to zero) even though my Free t3 and free t4 have been in the normal range. I'm ignoring my tsh for now and trying to get my thyroid hormones into the high end of…
  • @allergictodiets - That's interesting. So was your period of weight loss the "temporary flutter" your doctor was talking about or is the not feeling so good part the flutter? I know my periods of feeling good have been few and far between but I'd like to think that they are the "normal" that I'm trying to achieve and…
  • When I was first diagnosed about 3 1/2 years ago I was put on Synthroid by my first endocrinologist. I was on it for two months with no improvement in how I felt at all. The endo said that my levels were fine (she only cared about TSH) so she wouldn't do anything else and I should got back to my regular doctor because…
  • I don't have any experience with LDN but would love to know how it works out for you. My latest blood test showed high antibodies, very low TSH, high normal free T3 and mid normal free T4. I don't know what is up with my TSH but it's been at almost 0 for several months. Anyone else experience low TSH and normal free T3 and…
  • My new doctor (as of September) said that she would let me change my dosage as she feels I am knowledgeable enough in recognizing how I feel. But at the time she thought I was hyper because she only looks at TSH and since I was feeling a bit hyper at that time we discussed lowering my dose a bit. But my TSH remains low and…
  • In March my dosage of Armour Thyroid was raised to 90 mg. I started to feel like a normal person for the first time in a few years. By eating at a deficit without exercise, I was able to lose about 1 to 1 1/2 lbs per week for about 5 or 6 weeks before I started to not feel so great. Then the weight loss just stopped even…
  • @Surfingbodi - Yes, our experiences sound very similar. I get mad at myself for thinking that things are going to be okay during those good times because they never last. They haven't happened often but when they do it is so nice to feel like a normal person but then things get bad again and I have no idea why. It's so…
  • I know, it would be so much easier if we all reacted the same way. In the past, before my thyroid went totally off the rails and I was diagnosed, I loved working out and successfully lost a lot of weight. Since then I've felt pretty bad most of the time (and regained all the weight) so I didn't really connect it with…
  • It certainly helps to know its not just me.
  • I have exercised on and off since my diagnosis but stopped altogether after the first of the year. At the end of August I started exercising again. I rode my exercise bike for 30 minutes about every other day. Within a week I started having really bad hypo symptoms - extreme fatigue, depression, aches, stiffness, brain…
  • Today is my 44th birthday. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's 3-1/2 years ago. It's been a very rocky road with lots of ups and downs. I've mostly felt like crap for the last 4 years and have gained a lot of weight. I've spend the last several months really paying attention to how I feel, what I eat, when symptoms occur,…
  • I've been to two endocrinologists. The should be knowledgeable about the thyroid but the two I saw were not and from what I've read not many are.
  • Thank you for the links. I've stopped taking the melatonin. I'd rather not do anything that might make my thyroid issues worse. I'll talk to my doctor about it when I see her next month. She's not that knowledgeable about the thyroid but I've yet to find a doctor that is.
  • No one is saying that exercise is bad for you, but I had a severe negative reaction to it that went away when I stopped exercising. In the past I've been able to exercise and lose weight successfully and I would love to do so again. I'm glad it works for you. I posted to see if others have had the same problem. And…
  • Thanks for the replies. I have thought about strength training instead of cardio but I only have small hand weights at home right now and I cancelled my Y membership at the beginning of the year. I think for now I'm going to keep counting calories to lose weight. That was working for me at times when I felt normal and my…
  • I'm really sorry you are going through this. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's 3 1/2 years ago. I've had the exact same experience with two different endocrinologists. They were awful and I cried alot. I'm still feeling confused and overwhelmed by the whole thing. And I'm still in search of a doctor who can really help me.…
  • Thanks for the reply. I think I have that book. I'll check it out. I did read somewhere that exercise can cause issues but that was really extreme. I just totally crashed. I kept working out for 3 weeks then stopped. After stopping for a little over a week I was suddenly feeling very hyper - couldn't sleep, felt like I was…
