  • Go to hungrygirl.com for dessert ideas. One of my favorites is a package of chocolate cake with one can of pumpkin added. (That's it, no eggs or oil) Make mini muffins and keep them in the freezer out of sight! I use gluten free cake mix, but you can use Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines if you can have gluten.
  • I make pumpkin custard all the time, but I leave out the heavy cream and use soy milk only. I only use 3 eggs, which I guess makes this taste more like pumpkin pudding, than pumpkin custard. But, instead of eating it for a dessert, I eat it for breakfast. Yum!
  • Also, check out hungrygirl.com. She has show on TV, but her website remakes all of our favorite recipes into healthier versions. I find this site really helpful. Good luck!
  • It takes planning to eat healthy! Pick a free day, like Sunday and spend a few hours getting your meals together for the week. You can make oatmeal ahead of time and pre-measure it cooked into containers to take on the run. Add all of your toppings and measure them also. Write on the outside of container your exact…
  • My opinion: Power Bars good for body builders (maybe), not so good for dieters. Too high in calories for me. Some of my meals have around the same calories. Nutrition Facts Amount Per 1 bar (2.25 oz) Calories 228.8 Calories from Fat 15.79 Total Fat 1.75g 3% Saturated Fat 0.331g 2% Polyunsaturated Fat 0.273g Monounsaturated…
  • Yeah, I agree. Break it up into 10 minutes 3 times a day. Or skip exercise. As long as you are only eating 1,200 calories a day, you will still lose weight, without the exercise. Listen to your body! Rest is JUST AS important as exercise.
  • Green Salad with some protein on top (tuna, chicken, turkey, cottage cheese). Rice Pasta with marianara sauce, mushrooms, protein. Home-made soup, make on th weekend, and freeze in ready to take portions. Just bring whatever you cooked for dinner the night before. (make sure to make enough for leftovers) And then,…
  • Yes, you're right is IS life comsuming. But, once you start losing weight, it becomes VERY REWARDING. I've lost 8 lbs and if this is how I have to do it....then I don't mind at all. I couldn't live this way for the rest of my life, but I find that it is super necessary to teach you what A REAL PORTION looks like. After I…
  • Your body's metabolism only starts to rev up after you put something into it in the morning. I know a lot of mornings that I'm not hungry. But, the word "breakfast" comes from "breaking fast" since your body goes into fasting mode in the night. You probably don't feel hungry cuz your body is in "starvation mode" and…
  • This is what I eat for a sweet snack. But, only once a week. Simply Lite Dark Chocolate at Trader Joe's. The review and calorie info is in the link below. http://districtchocoholic.blogspot.com/2011/01/sugar-free-chocolate-options-simply.html
  • I should point out that Metamucil is NOT A LAXATIVE, it's just psyllium husk. I also agree with the other blogger who suggested you get enough of the good fats in your diet. If I get to the end of the day and I still have calories left to consume, I will sometimes takes a spoonful of olive oil or flax seed oil.
  • Yes, that happened to me too. I take Metamcuil twice a day now. I was watching the Dr. Oz show and he suggested that we all do this, so that we can get enough fiber in our diets. It works fabulous! But....one caveat, you will be gassy for the first couple weeks until your body gets used to all that extra fiber....so take…
  • I have a friend who lives in Santa Cruz and she has one. They are so cool! I want one too, but they're a bit pricey. I live in Sacramento and I haven't seen anyone around here who has one.
  • For a large amount of marinade to cover a few fillets of salmon: 1/2 cup soy sauce (reduced sodium) or substitute 1/4 cup orange juice and 2 tablepoons low sodium soy sauce. Or omit soy sauce altogether if you're watching your sodium intake. Low sodium soy sauce has quite a bit of sodium in it still. 1/4 cup red wine…
  • I'm having the same problem! I have like 350 calories left over AFTER eating dinner. And, it's even worse if I exercised that day. I try to eat a bowl of cereal with raisins and soy milk around 9:00pm. I don't go to bed until like 1:00am, so eating at 9:00pm is not an issue for me. I add in a tablespoon of flax seed oil…
  • Give yourself a cheat day once in awhile....Valentine's Day is a great day to do that! Enjoy your cheat days....and get back to counting your calories the very next day. I cheated on Super Bowl Sunday and I didn't even bother to log my calories in that day. I did an hours worth of cardio before the party and then I just…
  • I buy organic frozen mixed berries from Costco (freezer section). I have 1/2 of cup of that thawed with one tablespoon of non-fat yogurt and 1 teaspoon of flax seed (63 calories) The fruit by itself is only 33 calories. Berries are lower in sugar than most fruits. Also, have an apple or pear. A large apple can count for…
