  • Mind over matter. I quit cold turkey last May (2008) and haven't looked back since (I smoked for about 15 years). That was after a zillion times of "trying" to quit before. I realized I got more out of not smoking that I actually got out of smoking. When I really thought about what smoking did for me, the list was very…
  • try taking up running, you can't even imagine adding smoking back into the picture, it's hard enough without smoking  I like it though and it is really a feeling of accomplishment when you can finally go the distance.
  • If you continue to gain, even though you exercise and carefully watch what you eat, make sure you get your thyroid tested. I never knew mine was bad til I quit smoking and the pounds kept coming no matter what I did (it has been very frustrating to say the least) They say a smoker burns appx 200 more calories per day than…
  • I decided if I had to give up everything I loved (beer, wine) to get to the happy place with my body, I wouldn’t be in a happy place. Now although skinny, I would be miserable because I took something away from myself that I truly enjoyed, just so I could make society happy with the way I looked. Deprivation has its…
  • don't want to start a debate, but men shouldn't go below 1700 calories per day. Since you have been doing this for a while, your body has stopped letting go of it's extra, cause you haven't been feeding it enough. It is afraid and has slowed your metabolism to conserve what it has left. Check out some of the posts on…
  • how much are you eating?
  • me too, til I see their eyes start to glaze over
  • I am looking for arm exercises when you have carpal tunnel, somthing that won't aggravate your wrists
  • Anyone have any suggestions for weights when you have carpel tunnel? Almost all strength training routines involve some stress to your wrist???
  • it constantly amazes me that so many people go under their calories. I have been here since august and I have never had one day under, ever. I usually wish I had more to work with. I eat healthy not junk food, but still find at the end of the day my belly could use a little something more and I eat 1600 calories sometimes…

  • WonderBra® High-impact Bra You don't move much and I am a 34D. Not as sexy as the frilly kind but definintly does the trick, pricey here in canada at $38 but usually can get it 40% off at sears.
  • I realized I had my expectations set to high. I started with the run/walk way and was always dissappointed when I saw all these people saying how they could now run five miles etc. and I just wasn't getting the progress I thought I should be seeing. I erroneously believed the only way to do it right was to go out and run…
  • hahaha I would have been to china by now (and back)
  • I came here because I quit  you do have to be ready, if you still think you want it, but chose to torture yourself and go without, you will always want it. It is a mindset. I quit on May 28 of last year, and have never even considered going back to it or cheating. I am not martyr, this was after the 35000 other…
  • It absolutely blows me away that people have the audacity to do this to you. To go to the effort of actually sending you messages shows their lack of intelligence and character. Obviously they are jealous that they have never been able to commit to anything themselves and cannot stand to see someone else succeed. I am…
  • personally I hate to be yelled at, and never want others to think I am being rude, sarcastic or ignorant to them. I have also found myself backing away from the message boards, because sometimes you are just trying to be helpful, they asked a question, you hope you can help them with your answer and the responses you get…
  • so do I, but I have seen the question posed before, so thought someone might be interested.
  • sometimes I see people ask, if it is all about calories, why do we need to exercise at all (besides the looking better with toned muscle and a happy heart) to lose weight. I read in an article yesterday that the added exercise in itself keeps your metabolism burning effeciently instead of slowing down to conserve energy…
  • this is so true of everyone that has ever dieted, which is just about everone at one time or another, if only we could train ourselves to be more patient. People give up because they don't feel they are getting their just rewards for all the hard work. Nobody wants to wait a year to take off 20 pounds, 30 or 40 pounds off,…
  • oh you guys can come and take some of our, had snow since christmas, and I don't mean a couple inches, currently about two feet out there and that dropped from about 3 feet last week cause we had some warmer weather. (I am talking +6 celcius). Snow blah, I am ready for sun and green grass.
  • 13 kids??? and you are still sane :noway:
  • me, dh and 9 year old daughter, food and household stuff $600-800 per month. We all eat healthy and take lunches. That is in regular grocery orders, plus will have to pick more fruit and fresh veggies through the week. Food in Canada is very expensive and since we cannot buy alcohol in our grocery stores, the price is even…
  • Mine was 2 lbs higher than I am. Wonder what the premise is for the calculation
  • everything in moderation, if you are drinking so much water it makes you nauseated, cut back. If water is completely erradicating your appetite, cut back. Water is good and you should drink plenty but not to the point it replaces everyting else and makes you feel gross.
  • I think you should be giving us tips, if you lost 14 lbs since January 22, you must be doing it right already
  • well they say that lifting weights continues to burn more calories long after you are done working out, a lot more than cardio does, so I would think you need more food on those days. I am sure someone in here has a scientific study, but not me today.
  • mine was peanut butter cookies on monday. Must have had 10 okay 12 at least.:noway: Don't feel bad, we all have done it. tomorrow is another day.
  • hahaha I was just sending her to your post
  • add weights, you want muscle in your legs and backside instead of fat, besides, it takes a LOT of weight lifting and dedication for a woman to look like she is a body builder, we just weren't made like men and just don't bulk up that easily. Don't be afraid of weights, they do wonder for toning your muscles and burning fat…
  • [[/quote]This is my opinion: 1300 cal per day equals about 54 calories per hour. So if you exercise for one hour and burn 400 calories you've really only burned an EXTRA 346 calories (400-54=346). So you should only add 346 calories to your calories to consume for the day - 1646 calories total. Granted a lot of people…
