  • Look into Skyr. It is Icelandic yogurt.
  • 54 years young here and going strong! Keep up the good work everyone!
  • I am thinking a combination of running again and rowing. They have rowing machines at my gym and I've gotten good workouts from them. I know about the weight bearing benefits of running too and this is why I want to start again. Midsummer is not the best time, but it is what it is. I have a mountain bike in good shape but…
  • This is the thing I noticed about my VO2Max. That is, it declined quickly when I stopped training due to injury. I still feel I can do the same things, running-wise and sports-wise but it did decline and the testing proved that. Ok, now one more thing about me. I am 54 with a history of some injury to a knee, ankle and…
  • Thanks for the responses! I have C25K and will run at least 1 5K this year. I can't swim so swimming is out. So what is a good 12 week plan then? Cardiovascular disease runs in my family and being older now, just want to stay ahead of the curve.
  • 54 years young here. I was over 200 lbs when I started MFP and now I an 183.
  • I do intervals on the treadmill and just found the rowing machine. What do you think improved your VO2 max the most?
  • See. This is what I am looking for. I think...LOL...Garmin says my RHR is 50 and it's been a touch lower but my latest VO2 max test has me only "fair" now when I used to be "excellent". It got to "excellent" all thru running and playing a sport, mostly.
  • I like my Garmin and the last thing I need is another electronic gadget....
  • Yes I know reddit...LOL...But is having their chest strap a requirement?
  • Ok...one last question...maybe...I'm a 54 year old guy...wouldn't I be out of place?
  • Yes I already have a gym membership, a Garmin Vivosport and 2 or 3 chest straps at home. So I don't know if I want another membership. Still, it's the accountability that I find appealing and the need to increase my cardio fitness level quickly.
  • So with OTF, would you say you either love it or hate it? They make you buy HRM monitors too, correct?
  • Swimming, swimming, swimming.[/quote] I swim like a brick...I can't swim...LOL
  • Full body is good and I do TRX and dumbbells now. Thanks!
  • I can do treadmill now it's just different so perhaps you are right. Can you tell me what a typical class consists of?
  • Thanks! I was a runner and enjoyed it but I sprained my knee playing a sport and haven't been able to run as much since. I hate the treadmill. Are there other cardio activities someone can do?
  • I've been curious about Orange Theory for awhile. I am not really looking at weight loss but am curious about the accountability part of it. I am also looking to increase my fitness level, specifically VO2 max. Would this help me improve my goal?
  • Seems simple enough. I'm in!
  • I'd stop running and biking until you see the doctor. I've had the same issues with stairs and my knee but my issue is a little more complicated. Runners knee can get pretty bad, there are 4 grades, and an MRI is the best tool to find out. Good luck!
  • All it does is sell activity trackers. There is no science behind it.
  • I see a chiropractor as well. He has a massage therapist in his office and those together have worked wonders. It works, give it time. I used to be every week for quite a while and I am down to 1 "maintenance" visit a month. Strengthen your core. Learn the Pallof Press, exercises from Stuart McGill and anti-rotation…

  • I'd say I am gluten-sensitive. I did an elimination diet and one of the things that was eliminated was wheat. I just felt better after and I don't consume much food containing wheat anymore. They even have gluten free beer!
  • 52 here! 50 is the new 30 !!

  • I bought and tried both the Fitbit Charge HR and the Garmin Vivosmart HR. The Fitbit irritated the skin on my wrist. The software for the Garmin is wonky but I'll stick with the Garmin. Just remember, the heart rate indicated is more of a guideline. The only thing that helps with weight loss is calorie restriction.
  • Been on MFP awhile, was 225 am now 175. Feel free to add me
  • OP should definitely talk to a doctor. Other things affect T levels, like brain structure. Google Empty Cella Syndrome and find out.
  • Been on AFP awhile. Feel free to add me
  • I know it's Mayo Clinic, but how about listing your source? Also, listing "how much is too much".
  • Now don't get me wrong...if you haven't exercised in years, are just realizing you need to do it or can't do anything else exercise-wise, there is nothing wrong with that. Shooting for 10K steps/day is better than sitting on the couch all day and binge-watching Netflix.
