  • Everyone's different, but I'm hypothyroid too and if I eat less than 1325 - and that's on a day with no exercise - I plateau for weeks on end. There's a hypothyroid group here on MFP. I recommend you join it if you haven't already. I've learned a ton about thyroid disease from the other folks in the group. And, if you put…
  • This is amazing! MFP puts me at 1200, but I've always sworn I need to eat 1325 or I'll plateau. My calc came out to 1322!
  • Celebrate every single step you take, no matter how small. Park a little further from the door. Eat a healthy snack instead of one that's less healthy. Forget your past and let today be the start of it all. Be patient and take one step at a time and don't compare yourself to others - you're uniquely you and you can do…
  • Soooo..... did you find a new mug you like?

  • Make a pact with yourself. Every time you feel hungry, drink a glass of water and wait 20 minutes. If you're still hungry after 20 minutes, eat something. If not, congratulate yourself for not eating and move on. Lots of time, thirst mimics hunger, and none of us know the difference.
  • I believe that if you're hungry, eat something. One hard boiled egg and a piece of whole wheat toast can really take the edge off. Try looking at your meals not as individual things you're eating but types of things. You should try to eat some protein and fiber with every meal. You should eat tons of veggies - you can eat…

  • How long is your "slump"? I have hypothyroidism and it took me over a year to lose 45 lbs - and I did it mainly through diet. But, I had a couple of really trying times where I'd go into a plateau and hang for like a month. What I did each time to shake it up - and this may sound odd - is that I had a really big meal.…

  • Someone else may have mentioned this - I didn't read everyone's posts completely - but try bringing a toothbrush and a strong mint toothpaste to work and every time you go to the bathroom, brush your teeth. I bet that garlic chex mix and those slushies just won't taste as good if your mouth is full of mint! You could also…
  • I think you should have a funeral. You have my condolences. Earlier this week, I lost my favorite travel coffee mug. I have a gazillion others, but still felt bereft. Two days later, a coworker found it. I baked her cupcakes.

  • Like the others say, be kind to yourself. One of the hardest things for many of us is to relearn how to eat. Restaurant food is a big shocker. One day isn't going to derail you. Go to bed, get up tomorrow and eat healthy. Don't ever punish yourself over food.
  • When I plateau for 5 weeks, I have a really high calorie day. Steak, baked potato -healthy, just high calorie. Within 3 days, the scale starts dropping again. Also, unless you're really petite, 1200 probably is a bit low for you. I have a desk job and find I need to eat about 1325 - I always plateau at 1200.
  • Just the standard: 1. If you're hungry, eat. Something with protein. Plain greek yogurt with a little honey for taste and a handful of granola, a hard boiled egg with a slice of wheat toast. 2. If you're hungry, drink a glass of water and wait 20 minutes. If you're still hungry, eat. Just remember that sometimes thirst…
  • I don't believe in "cheat" days - I believe in life and not feeling guilty for having days where I go over calories because of an event. Sure, I try to stay within my calories. But, if I'm invited to a barbecue or a wedding or I'm sitting down to Thanksgiving, I eat what I want. If I have 3 events in one week, I eat what I…
  • I say one step at a time. Pick something about your diet that's bad and stop. You have to decide where's best to start. I agree with most that soda is a great place, but only if that's where your head's at. There are lots of things you can do: 1. Switch out white bread with whole wheat, or better yet, buy high fiber/low…
  • I found that if I ate less than 1325 a day, I'd plateau for weeks on end. We're all different, so you need to be prepared to shift gears if what you're doing doesn't work.
  • I'm a scorpio/libra cusp. Which means it's always half full and more is on the way, unless someone messes with me/disappoints me once. Then, their glass is more like 3/4 empty.
  • First thought: how accurately are you measuring your portions? Second thought: although you're often within carb boundaries, you do seem to eat a lot of starchy type foods. Try more vegetables and protein and less bread. I know that when I eat a lot of carbs, I don't do as well, even when my calories are good. I'm not a…
  • If you're hungry, eat. If you're not, don't. But, do make sure you're hydrated sufficiently. We're all wired differently and what works for some, or even most, may not work for another.
  • Figure out what a portion size is, now. Don't keep eating just because it's delicious. A serving of macaroni and cheese is not two cups.
  • Plan your food so that you can have some protein and some fiber right before you go to bed. Nothing too big - a hard boiled egg on a whole wheat piece of toast, maybe. Anything, really, as long as it's heavy protein and heavy fiber. Both things take a while to digest, so I'm thinking they'll help you sleep through the…
  • Remember - everyone's different. Seems like a lot to us, but the one thing I've learned is that it takes time for our bodies to stabilize when we change doses - you could end up going back up. It's hard, but patience!
  • Kudos to you for coming back!! This time, I know you'll be able to keep it off. You know what'll happen if you don't. This is for your son and for your grandchildren and for you. It may be rough - and it will take time - but you have time. Don't beat yourself up if you falter one meal or one day - jump back in and live the…
  • First, if your husband wants it, let him buy it. He's the male head of house - you're the female head of house. Second, if you can't make your husband take ownership of his bad food choices, only buy junk you don't like.
  • Freeze what you can't eat or give it to a local shelter. He's acting like a baby. If you had a child, would you make that child a separate meal just because s/he didn't like what you made? Keep a jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread on hand and explain that he can eat what you make or make himself a sandwich. You're…
  • I make these for my daughter - last about a week in a covered container. 1 1/2 cups quick oatmeal 1 1/2 cups old fashioned oatmeal 1 cup unsalted sunflower seeds 1 cup craisins 2/3 cup mini chocolate chips 1/3 cup PB 2 1 can condensed milk 2 tbls butter, melted Opt: 1 tbls honey or maple syrup and 1 tbls water (Note: you…
  • Yup - even if I have no calories left. I just make sure it's healthy and is going to stop those pangs. Protein sources are the best for that. Add in a little fiber as well. No fat plain greek yogurt with a little (1 tsp) maple syrup and a handful of granola. Hard boiled egg with whole wheat toast or crackers. Naural peanut…
  • I don't consider it cheating. I consider it simply going over. I believe in eating what I truly want when I want it, but making every bite a decision. The trick is in the wanting. Is the chocolate or the cookie or whatever worth the calories? Do I want whatever it is more than I want to be as healthy as I can be? I strive…
  • My advice is to be a little flexible with your plan: 1. Try it for a month and if it works for you, continue. If it doesn't, make changes. We're all different and sometimes things that should work just don't. For example, I can't lose at 1200 calories, but a lot of folks can. I'm a 1325 girl. 2. Allow yourself to mix up…
  • What kind of chocolate bunny? I'm pretty fussy about brand. I might just stick you in a closet until I can pawn you off on some less fussy person, if you're quality is lacking.
  • If you haven't gone over in calories, don't worry too much. could be: 1. Water retention 2. muscle gain (have you taken your measurements?) 3. constipation 4. any of a handful of other things I know this time is the hardest, but if you hang in there, you'll start losing again! If you haven't seen any change in another week…
