  • Hi there, best of luck! I thought I would piggy-back on here because I too am back after a 2+ year hiatus. In 2013, I lost about fifteen pounds and got in great shape with MFP! Life happened, and I have gradually gotten close to where I was before (however, with a better distribution of fat and better overall health, in my…
  • I log everything I eat, so I log them. Exception: things like a fraction of a clove of garlic or one wedge of lemon juice. An important to remember to log is oils you use for stir-frying or salads. Those are calorie juggernauts.
  • If by "candy," you mean "beer"... haha, any candy I have is going to my roomies! Saving my Halloween calories for the good stuff :P
  • Any other winos out there can feel free to add me! I'm a bartender and I admit I drink a lot... but I always count it, and (believe it or not), I'm drinking about half of what I was before MFP. I'm here because I don't want to deprive myself in order to lose weight, but a support network is great for my efforts to cut back…
  • I'm on day 9, and already seeing changes in my body. Just keep pushing yourself to do the harder modifications and do it every day, and it seems to work! I'm pretty lazy when it comes to progress pictures in general, but I'm loving 30 day shred... 20 minutes a day every day just works so much better for me than a couple…
  • If you can't handle the fish low-cal, consider viewing edamame and other tofus (not swimming in calorie sauce, obviously) as the central protein. Have plenty of miso soup- the liquid will fill you up and it clocks in at like 80 cals a bowl. If you get rolls, ask for no sauce or sauce on the side. Look for rolls rolled in…
  • Brown rice. I love how hearty and filling it is. But both are pretty caloric.
  • I used to hate cooking, so I lived for toast-based food. Open-faced sandwiches are good... put whatever you like on them! I usually do a thick layer of hummus, cream cheese, or even canned tuna and then have some sliced veggies on top. Canned soup is good and filling, just keep an eye on the sodium. Canned anything,…
  • Well, I drank very heavily throughout university (surprise) and it contributed to my weight gain. I have also made a lot of poor decisions due to alcohol, have trouble controlling the amount I drink, that sort of thing... after moving to Chile, I was drinking at least three drinks every day, frequently alone. These are…
  • Ex-vegetarian and vegan for a short while, planning on returning when I get to maintenance weight. I try to eat natural, whole, foods (I will NOT bring the c-word into this threat), because it keeps me feeling my best. I'm interested in adding friends with open diaries along the same lines!
  • You should tell him. I was newly 18 and living with my parents when I got my first tattoo, and told them I was doing it, and they weren't happy but also couldn't stop me! All my tat's have really grown on them since. It's your life, but it would also be kind to inform your hubby.
  • I'm curious about that as well. I work in an office with just one other person, standing desks aren't really an option, and there isn't a lot to get up and walk around to see (which is office activity advice I hear a lot). I do push ups or jumping jacks on occasion when my coworker is out. Anyone else have advice on how to…
  • I feel the same as OP- looking for active, open friends! And maybe more guys- my friends are overwhelmingly female right now hahaha. Anyway, my diary is open, add me!
  • Haha, that's pretty entertaining! And actually helpful for me... I live in a crappy lighting and mirrors situation, so it's nice to be reminded of these things.
  • I don't see many other people who grew up with health-nut parents here, but mine were. They'd USUALLY let me get whatever I wanted, although if it was chicken fingers like three outings in a row, they'd draw the line. While eating, they'd spend a lot of time explaining why they choose not to eat whatever I'm eating. I was…
  • I eat at least five servings of fruit and veggies a day (though the majority is fruit... I gotta work on that). Just experiment- buy a few different things and cook some simple recipes (stir-fry, salads) to help you identify what you like. After that, just buy more of those things! I feel like a lot of people get turned…
  • I'm new and would like to see this forum more active. I'm improving, although last weekend saw the slightest of setbacks. It's still better than where I was just two months ago.
  • Born in the US, living in Chile, US + Chile dual nationality.
  • For me, it's midnight. But where I live, people don't arrive home from work until around 7, and because tea time is observed, dinner is small and usually after 9 PM. I used to have a midnight cutoff rule, and I could really use starting that back up, just because it cut out late-night snacking. It also accounts for the…
  • I'm a daily, honest, logger. Looking to give/get not just motivation, but generally insightful comments. Whoever wants to can add me.
  • Bump, I have the same problem and have asked about it before... basically, eating less sugar is never a bad thing but may not be the secret answer to rapid weight loss. IDK.
  • Go for where you're going to eat better... they both have good and bad options! At sushi, try to limit the amount of rice, sauces, and friend food you consume. Good ideas are miso soup, sashimi, and edamame. At Mexican, avoid the tortilla chips (or too much tortilla and rice in general), choose a light meat or veggie…
  • I think I'm recovering from a diet soda addiction. I worked in a movie theater for five years and it was always available... during that time, I didn't think I had much of a sweet tooth and only ate desserts and candies on rare occasion. After I quit the theater job (and quit drinking about 50 ounces of Coke Zero every…
  • Lemon kicks your liver into overdrive, so I highly recommend if you were drinking the night before... but otherwise, doubt it would do much.
  • I looove making them myself, getting the liquid flavor just right and eating them fresh :) But canned will do in a cinch.... for protein, not pleasure >.<
  • hahahahahaha! She must have a BIG, FAT, CARDIO BUNNY crush on you!!!
  • Yeah, I feel it estimates high too. I usually just put my workouts in for shorter than they actually were and hope for the best. I think this is also the reason why MFP members who eat back their exercise calories plan on eating back just 70%. Meh, compensating is compensating. All I know is my fun but not even remotely…
  • I use Optimum Nutrition with yogurt, milk, and occasionally flaxseed shaken in an old mason jar... about half the time, it easily gets all the chunks out, but the other half there are still some there. I just keep shaking it as I drink it, good enough for me. Wish I could figure out what's making the difference though.
  • Chile is climbing fast on obesity lists as well, and I'd say US fast food plays a relevant role (not saying US is to BLAME, just that we didn't handle fast food responsibly, and the other countries aren't either). Stuff like KFC, McDonalds, Burger King etc. has exploded and gotten really popular here in just the last 5 or…
  • A really common and delicious dish eaten in Chile is "zapallo italiano," (italian zucchini), if you want to google recipes for that. I don't have measurements, but you basically need: -big zucchinis -ground beef or pork -chopped onion -your favorite marinara sauce -mozzarella cheese -if you want to keep it really…
