Meeting calorie goal, but sugar always high

My goal is losing 2 lbs per week and I have been carefully tracking all food and exercise for a few weeks now; I am losing some weight but not the 2 lbs per week I'm hoping for. I am doing well with my net calories each day, but I seem to go over on sugar on a regular basis (usually quite a bit over). Most of this sugar is coming from relatively healthy food (e.g., fruit, milk, peanut butter & low sugar jelly) though when I do have something sweet it's typically a 100 calorie pack of chocolates or a 100 calorie Skinny Cow ice cream treat. I'm not sure how MFP determines the amount of sugar I'm supposed to get, so I'm wondering if this is something that could be hindering my weight loss. Or do I just need to calm down and be happy with my slower-than-desired progress?

Bump, I have the same problem and have asked about it before... basically, eating less sugar is never a bad thing but may not be the secret answer to rapid weight loss. IDK.

The macros such as Carbs, Protein, Fat, Sugar ect are suggestions set by MFP, you can even edit them however you want. Unless a doctor specifically told you to watch your sugar intake, don't stress about it.

That being said, getting sugar from more natural sources such a fruit will definitely be more healthy for you. Eating foods that contain refined sugar generally are high in calories and low in nutrients/grams to keep you feeling full.

The most important thing is to eat your goal calories to lose weight. Depending on how many pounds you have to lose, a 2lb a week goal may not be appropriate.

The MFP target is based on added sugars. Unfortunately, MFP does not differentiate between added sugars and natural sugars, so it's pretty much worse than not having that target in there, due to the confusion.

It's very difficult to not go over for me. And like you, all my sugar comes from milk, plain yogurt, vegetables, and limited fruits. It still adds up to as many as 70-80 grams in a day. I eat no "refined sugar" , so I try not to pay attention to the number as long as it all came from the naturally occurring sugars in otherwise healthy foods.
  • Sugar is the one thing I really don't pay attention to, mostly because all the sugar I get is from fruit. I always go over on sugar because of that. Don't worry about it. Sugar from fruit is NOT the same as sugar from unnatural sources. Eat fruit to your hearts content (i do) lol.

The amount of sugar you consume is of no consequence unless you have to avoid sugar for medical reasons such as if you are diabetic, or pre-diabetic. All that matters is total carbs, don't worry about sugar.

You can actually change the setting to track something else ...... I track fiber instead of sugar
