I have recently thought of joining a club too but for sprinting. I would love to train as a sprinter and be able to do a 100m sprint in 12 seconds. I think its a good idea.

I am on the minority side on this one... ride it out! I look at it as only 15 more days of 30 minutes exercise - 7.5 hours in total

I found it helpful to start slow or make one change at a time. For example I started drinking only water and cut out soft drinks which was not very easy since I never really drank plain water. This was the only thing I changed for about a month before I moved to the next thing.

I usually do the 8-10 range simply because it's usually weight I can handle. 10 just sounds like a good goal. I sometimes don't even get to 5 but I never really thought much about it until now. P.S you may want to start your own thread on this to get more answers.

Just because I was an athlete 10 years ago ( sprinter) I decided to participate in a 10K obstacle run without proper training! It took atleast a month to physically recover and I am still recovering emotionally! A year later!

Isn't that obvious? If you overeat you are no longer in a deficit. I was just pointing out that one can achieve a calorie deficit by exercising.
-
100% calorie deficit can be achieved by exercise!
-
Yes please do share the recipe. How did you manage to surpress your hunger in the beginning with such a drastic change of calorie intake? Or did you gradually go down until settling on 1000?
-
Well done! This is so encouraging. How many calories do you end up eating everyday? I always feel like I have to exercise to create a large enough deficit.

I tend to lose weight much more easily in winter because I drink more hot drinks which fill me up more and I find this replaces any snacking I would have done. I also love soups and replace many a meal with simple soups.

They do have broadband in Iten you know! [/quote] I was not questioning that. Eugene, Oregon...where Nike was born. It's one of those self-bestowed titles. :) Oregon is also pretty bike-friendly. Something like 9% of Portland's population commutes by bike. The point is that I know an inordinate number of people who run…

Is the running capital you are from somewhere in Kenya or Jamaica? Just curious. I have done a quick google search and found different opinions.... OP... Yes I have had similar experiences.

This has just made me wonder if there are any professional runners, say like one of the famous Marathon winners who actually dislikes running. Perhaps one who does it just because they can win it.
-
I do consider myself to be a runner simply because its an activity I do regularly. I run atleast 3 times a week about 5K be it on a treadmill or outside( prefer the latter). I don't particularly enjoy long distance running because I am a sprinter by nature but there is a feeling I get after a run that is so worth the…

At what point would YOU then consider someone to be a runner?
-
Fair enough! Makes sense when viewed this way...
-
This is how I see it too..

If you had the weights section to yourself would you enjoy it? If yes, then try headphones and perhaps working out at a different time when the 'annoying' people are not around. I think bodyweight exercises + HIIT will get you the results you want.

Winter is easier for me to lose weight and exercise because I drink more and love soups in the colder weather... I find this helps me keep my calorie intake on the lower side. As for exercising- I have fewer excuses to cancel gym sessions because there isn't that much going on like in summer.

Outside even when it is drizzling.

Unfortunately I too have this fear. I know it is unreasonable but I cannot get past it. It is what made me stop running until I got a running buddy. She is too fast for me though so now I have paid to join a field and track club so that I can run on a secure track. I mostly have it to myself due to the time of day I go. I…

Not an expert but from personal experience, I poop more on the days I eat way above my alloted calories. I wonder if that means that some of it does really go down the other way? I definately have more energy to run the following day!

I seem to be focused on my training when doing weights i.e I count the reps, keep reminding myself of the correct form etc. Cardio is a totally different story... All kinds of random things go through my mind in this kind of order: Tomorrow at work I need to remember to do ABC and talk to XYZ about 123 "Cardio is good for…

I spend on average £5 a day for lunch. Trying to change this by preparing a packed lunch every night. I am addicted to Hoisin duck wrap from waitrose :(

The first time I had to do a squat with weights was with a male personal trainer who kept shouting "butt out" and "lower, lower". I couldn't even get to a right angle squat and this was at the squats racks which is at the centre of the gym with all the boys watching. I felt very akward. Now I stick it out with no shame and…
