  • Wow, that is exactly like my experience. I only ate hot chips and vegemite wholemeal bread sandwiches for a solid week (Australian here). It was akin to pregnancy cravings/tolerances. I've not heard of anyone else that had such distinct food preferences with COVID.
  • I had bloodwork done at the beginning of the pandemic when Australia went into 'lockdown' and as many of us as possible worked from home. I was very deficient in Vitamin D. It was very likely a contributor to the mild depression I experienced at the onset of the pandemic. I double dosed Vit D through Autumn and Winter and…
  • When the pandemic started we worked from home for the best part of a year and then transitioned back to the office only 2-3 days a week. When I work from home I wear comfy pants like leggings, 'nice' sweatpants, or shorts in summer (Australian here so that's most of the year). I have a lot of online meetings and workshops…
  • I am in QLD and tested positive on Friday (day 4 today). We are encouraged to register our RAT test online and receive text messages and emails directing to services available. I had a telehealth appointment as I have asthma. Thankfully this hasn't been too affected by COVID, though I have most other symptoms and feel…
  • This is something I learned when visiting the Netherlands a few years ago! It's a popular cheese here in Australia and is always referred to as Dutch. So strange ;)
  • I am very fortunate to have this selection in the small supermarket within walking distance from my house. I love all cheese! I'm particularly partial to a Tasmanian triple cream brie with quince paste on a wafer cracker. I also love dutch smoked cheeses. I find the best way to satisfy my cheese craving is to grate sharp,…
  • Unvaccinated people can not eat in restaurants in Queensland.
  • Even though there are 3 workout days per week in the program, there are just 2 actual workouts so you should be fine just training twice a week
  • 5' 10 here too :)
  • I agree with this. My (now) husband met me after I had lost a significant amount of weight, largely assisted by MFP. After some gentle ribbing about my calorie tracking, he realised that it made perfect sense once he understood how it worked and went on to lose 20kg in a reasonable amount of time and has maintained since…
  • Our government (Australia) has indicated that international travel will not resume until at least mid-2022. In the meantime, we have the travel bubble with NZ as @jo_nz mentioned. Our vaccination rollout has been pretty abysmal and many frontline workers are still yet to be vaccinated.
  • Fantastic :) It's so simple and low cal.
  • Australian here. I make up one sachet of sugar-free jelly crystals with 3 teaspoons of plain gelatine powder and 250ml of boiling water. Poured into a shallow dish and refrigerated, it sets very firm, almost like gummies. I cut it into cubes for a very low-calorie snack.
  • FYI don't Google 'naked dog walking' on your work computer. Learn from me...
  • It's an everyday term here in Australia. Just one more reason this thread has been an invaluable learning resource!
  • A perfect example of Australian compliance and restrictions took place in my part of Australia last week. We had one COVID positive result in a woman who was a cleaner in a COVID quarantine hotel. Our state government's response was to enforce a three-day lockdown (Sat, Sun, Mon with less than 12 hours notice) with the…
  • We are seeing some of those reports here in Australia today. It's terrifying. To see the US and UK and other parts of the world still being so swamped is heartbreaking. Meanwhile, we are experiencing new 'outbreaks' in comparatively minuscule numbers that quickly result in state border closures, mask mandates,…
  • Agree @rheddmobile Here is a link to government data re mental health and suicide outcomes (to date) during 2020 here in Australia. It largely attributes our lockdowns, 'all in this together' approach and government financial support to maintaining almost the same rate of suicide as 2019. Mental Health care seeking has…
  • Some context from a Melbourne (Australia) doctor who has been integral in their Covid experience for many months: “What did Melbourne, Australia do to get our covid numbers down from 700+ a day to zero in the last 48h? Here’s a list: 5km travelling limit 1 hour outside the home Leave home only for essential work, essential…
  • Buttercup Country Split bread is 50 calories per slice. Not very big slices but you can easily fill them with lots of protein and salad or use them as a base for an open-grilled sandwich. Tip Top or Helga's Sandwich and Burger Thins are approx 100-110 calories for a pair.
  • Fries are mostly served with tomato sauce (ketchup) or aioli here in Australia. Mayo or aioli with fries was common in more than one European country I've visited. In Iceland, they serve fries with Kokkteilsósa (cocktail sauce). It's a delicious combination of mayo, sour cream, ketchup and mustard.
  • https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/government-actions/roadmap-to-easing-queenslands-restrictions @rheddmobile Churches/places of worship here have mostly been completely compliant with restrictions. It looks like places of worship will not open fully until at least July with staggered stages of increased gathering numbers and…
  • QLD Premier's office has just announced that their intention is to allow travel just in time for the next school holidays! If State borders do stay closed, everyone will be traveling north.
  • Our (Australian) Prime Minister has just announced the 3 stage process for return to business which is expected to be complete by July. States and Territories have the authority to roll out these stages independently. My organisation has already decided to maintain working from home for at least a few months yet as it is…
  • Aha, I see. The delivery of school work here is the same for those attending 'in person' or online too.
  • It will be interesting to see how Australia rolls back restrictions now that NZ have started. I know we are a ways behind, and that it will vary from state to state when it does. Schools are open here for children of essential workers and others are learning remotely at home. Do you know what the reasoning is for NZ…
  • @Nony_Mouse haha. Beat me to it. I just watched her FB live...amazing.
  • Australia got a text alert yesterday too. Our PM held a press conference the evening before, imposing a new level of restrictions (none surprising - weddings, funerals, boot camps, beauty services etc). For some reason, they imposed a restriction of hairdressing appointments to be 30 minutes long but cut all other health…
