  • Just starting ...again! So my challenge is to be lighter at the end of the month than I am now and I am going to do that by tracking what I eat, cutting out or at least down on the alcohol, and trying to go to the gym more regularly regardless of what I d when I get there. Going forward I can build on that. Jenna
  • Morning all Haven't caught up with all the posts since yesterday as work computer dropped network connection this a.m. and has only just come back on and now I have to work!! An OK day yesterday, decided against going to gym, no real reason , just feeling a bit lazy. Will go tonight anyway. Was expecting this morning to be…
  • JFT Wednesday No alcohol - pass Go to gym after work - fail :/ Treat nails with oil before bed - pass. JFT Thursday Quick run before work with dog - pass No alcohol Go to gym after work and do deadlifts Treat nails with oil before bed. Say no to DH's cake. Jenna
  • mollywhippet - love your bowls particularly the white pinched shape. Obviously you were so tired finishing them that you fell asleep with consequences!! Everything still OK here. Did a little run with dog this morning before work. Same route as our usual walk but I had put on my sports bra so could run it instead. She…
  • JFT Tues - tick No alcohol Go to gym after work Treat nails with oil before bed. JFT Wed -do same again jenna
  • Love the lama, butter wouldn't melt. Ha Ha. Day 3 of the month went to plan. Think I should revise my weight goal for the end of the month, as I seem to have lost nearly 4 pounds overnight - obviously a lot of water weight after the (boozy) weekend. I'm now 60.6kg (133.5 lbs) so my target is to get in the 58's. More…
  • Hi - new here JFT No alcohol Go to gym after work Treat nails with oil before bed. That's it
  • Morning all - thanks for all your welcomes. Hopefully one day, I'll get to know you enough to be able to respond better. Have just spent 20 mins reading from yesterday and now have to get back to work after a quick update. Day 2 of no alcohol done. Gym planned for after work tonight Should have put oil on nails last night…
  • Hi all, just saw this thread and as it is the beginning of the month thought I would try and join in. I'm impressed by those of you who are able to reply to everybody - I'm not very good at that so hope you'll excuse me. A little about me - 62 last month, generally like weight training and running, but every now and then I…
  • I've never had a McDonalds. I went in once for a coffee because it was the only place open. The coffee was rubbish, and the food has never tempted me. Guess I'm odd!
  • I make a large espresso (200ml), chill in fridge then add my normal unflavoured whey protein powder to it and shake it up. Started doing this when I ordered the unflavoured powder by mistake. I don't add any milk or anything as I normally have my coffee black and unsweetened anyway. Shake it up again between sips as it…
  • Well I'm 61 and lift heavy weights. You may have to go a bit easy at first and lift very light weights but it all helps the anti ageing process, and makes you feel better in your day to day life. Much better to be stronger and not have to rely on other people to do things for you. Of course if you have osteoarthritis then…
  • Why don't you just go by what you see in the mirror? If you see rolls of fat that you don't want, then carry on losing. If you have no more spare fat but want to see your muscles show through more, then carry on losing. If you are happy with the way you look, then try and maintain. Maybe this is too simple....
  • Shock Absorber - high impact for me. What I have found though is that I need a bigger band size for running than for my "normal" gym activities. I can get away with a 32F normally but for running I need the 34E as the band does not "give" very much and I found that I was unable to breathe properly.
  • If I'm doing some running on treadmill, I'll wear my running shoes which are Saucony Pro grid Triumph 8. Or sometimes if I'm doing upper body weights. Otherwise if I'm deadlifting or squatting I wear Nike Free 1 Cross Bionic which has a totally flat sole - no padding whatsoever. Like being barefoot. Great for deadlifts. I…
  • I'm 61 and used to cycle a lot in my late twenties and thirties. Nothing much when I was younger. Then I started weight training so that I would be stronger for cycling. Then started powerlifting for a year or two in my late thirties. Life got in the way every now and then and there have been long periods of not doing much…
  • Maybe I can see where you are coming from. Like you I am of advanced years (61) and have lost about 30 lbs. Almost at goal weight, but there is still some fat above hips and stomach which may or may not go. I'm 5ft 4 and 122 lbs and look v.good with clothes on apart from the "hippy" problem which I can get away with…
  • As a 61 year old it makes me feel much better as I keep comparing myself with what I could do 30 years ago and feel rubbish. These figures put me in the advanced or elite so yay for old women!!
  • Can't you train in her garden or yard?
  • I would say that the majority of working people want to enjoy their weekends off doing their own thing, but if you are in a relationship, you have to consider the other person's needs as well as your own, otherwise why be in a relationship? I did my first 10k a few year ago at the age of 59. Never having been to a race…
  • I'm 61 and have been lifting on and off since my mid thirties. I originally started it to assist with cycling (time trialling) and soon realised that I liked it for it's owns sake. Got talked into powerlifting which I did for a few years. Then dropped doing it so seriously to concentrate more on cycling - only so many…
  • I am 61, female, lift heavy 3 or 4 days a week and twice a week I do HIIT. I also walk dog a lot and run for about 30 mins before work 2 or 3 times a week (with dog). No particular schedule with the running though, just when I feel like it. Sometimes I walk, sometimes I run!
  • I'll be 61 next month and currently 122lbs and aiming for about 115lbs. 5ft 4 and small frame but quite good muscles through heavy lifting. Still excess weight round middle and hips which is proving very difficult but I'm in no rush. Just as well really!
  • I get mine at Tesco. I think maybe Costco have it as well. Its not usually in a spot that jumps out at you though!!
  • I also started off at 10st 10 - 150 lbs earlier this year and am now 123, and can fit into my size 8 bottoms, but I'm a 12 or 14 top because I'm a 32E or sometimes F. Having said that I know I am still carrying fat around my middle, but am also lifting heavy so not sure what weight I'll end up at. Last time I was lifting…
  • We do tend to fool ourselves don't we? At our age we should know better. I am having better luck now with regarding food as a fuel source rather than something I just want. Good luck with your efforts.
  • Confession here as well - I have relaxed too much now that I can fit into all my very small clothes, although I still want to lose more "fat". I have been drinking more wine - my biggest failing - and need to jump off the slippery slope. After not having any for about 4 months, I started have a glass or three twice a week.…
  • I think BMI is a good starting point for the majority of people, but you know yourself whether you have more fat that you want to lose. You have to be honest with yourself, and tell yourself if you are happy with what you see in the mirror.
  • Dreamon145 - I love your "number 2 comment" above re your inlaws!! 1 - morning coffee - love the fact that one of the partners brought in a pod coffee machine, for his own use, but doesn't mind who uses it as long as you bring your own coffee. (The firm supply coffee etc generally but only instant). so I make a cup first…
  • If you are planning to do it at a gym, then the instructors there should be able to help you to start off, otherwise there is plenty of info on the internet. Don't look specifically for exercises for "old" people as we are capable of the same as younger people, but generally more recovery time between exercises is needed…
