Sports bra advice

Just wondering what larger chested ladies do regarding sports bras when doing vigorous activity such as running?

I wear a normal bra under my sports bra for extra support but pretty sure this isn't right, especially as I get terrible chafing on my long distance runs!

The shock absorber bras look great but I just wanted to check - if you're using a good quality sports bra this alone should offer enough support?

  • I love the under armor armour 2.0 bra - depends on your body though. I am not that big- 34D but it supports better than any other I've had.

I personally prefer moving comfort to under armour
moving comfort have several type of high impact, the Juno is very good but hard to put on
the other one is maia it's pretty good too. To me moving comfort bras are the best I've tried and I tried a lot!

A good quality, properly fitting sports bra will be enough. You shouldn't have to double up - if you do, it's the wrong bra for you. Anyone who tells you otherwise, hasn't made the effort to find the right bra.

There are several brands that are great for average busts, and a few that are fantastic for the more well endowed. My recommendation is to get to a running store, or someplace that specialises for something like zumba, and try on all the brands they carry. Jump around in the changing room like a fool, and see which one feels the best.

FWIW - I love the Lululemon "tata tamer" bra. Other people love Moving Comfort. The more well endowed often prefer the brand "Enell"

Yep a good one will do you. I can't remember the brand of mine but there is no boob movement. None. I got it from Running Room.

Look at anything labelled "high impact".

And I second @AllonsYtotheTardis -- go to a specialty store, try stuff on, jump around. I got help when I bought mine from the running store. I would recommend it if you're open to it.

If you get the type of sports bra that has the adjustable back and straps you won't need to double up. I use those and find I don't need to double up when I wear them.

Just something to make you all laugh... after I had my daughter and could start working out again I had milk boobies that were about a size g.
At 1 point I had 3 sports bras on, I was worried I'd give myself a black eye! Lol!!

I got an Under Armor bra on super clearance at Marshall's the other day. I love the way it fits. I also went to a Champion outlet store and tried on several of their high impact bras in my actual bra size. Found 2 more I really like. I have 2 from Victoria's Secret, but I'm not a fan. They have additional padding that I just don't want/need. I'm a 36D.

I LOVE this bra. It really locks everything down tight and is in my price range. You'll feel like you're wearing armor with this sucker.

I double up on compression sports bras and it works just fine for me. I would rather pay $15 per bra at Kohl's than have to spend big bucks on a bra that I don't love. I definitely don't wear a regular bra, though. Old Navy actually has some decent sports bras that are cheap AND are supportive. The other day I actually just wore ONE of them while interval training and it worked fine!

Some good ones here: http://www.herroom.com/sports-bras,full-figure-(dd-),bras,1884,66,001,25.html. Though don't buy online unless you know the brand and size ... try on in store first.

And yeah, with the right sports bra, one is enough.

For UK, I can recommend Glamorise 1066 and La Isla Women's High Impact Wire Free Non Padded Powerful Seam Free Sports Bra. Normally 40C ... 42D in both of these bras. Some tightness, but very secure, well made, and La Isla has great colours.

My go to is Under Armour...I don't remember the name of it, but it zips in the front and the back straps criss-cross, which provides more support. I LOVE this bra!

I had to upgrade to a high impact sports bra after I had blisters on from my first 10 mile run. Google sports bras for large chested women, there's lots of reviews out there. They are pricey but so worth it when you're running and the girls are secure!

    Agreed.

Yup. When I was a size 32F I was partial to the Moving Comfort Maia for running--just make sure it fits nice and snug as they changed the sizing up a little recently.

The ladies at titlenine.com are also usually spot-on with their recommendations as well.

    A million times yes.
If you have the correct bra for you and at the right level of support you should not need to wear two bras. You wouldn't wear two normal bras to work to get the right support, you'd simply wear the correct bra.

Shock Absorber are great - I've always bought from them. I'm a 36D and I need the maximum support level because I cannot stand any distracting movement when working out, but it is sufficient and comfortable. Moving Comfort also have very good reviews and I'll be getting one of their Juno bras soon to try.

Shock Absorber - high impact for me. What I have found though is that I need a bigger band size for running than for my "normal" gym activities. I can get away with a 32F normally but for running I need the 34E as the band does not "give" very much and I found that I was unable to breathe properly.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone - definitely have a few new brands to try out. Good suggestion about the band size, I find my sports bras always feel tight on me and that's no doubt why I'm getting chafing!

36G here, and I swear by Shock Absorber level 4 ... has to be the 'classic support' for me though, have tried the others, and this one fits me best, but everyone's different so a bit of trial and error is needed.

Once you find the one for you, buy loads of them cheap from eBay ;)

    Hi -
I've gotten a couple of Glamorise bras before and found that they seem to run little small in the band. How's your experience been with the sports bra?

Are a little smaller in the band, a little moreso than the La Isla, which has thick ribbed band (a little more give), so definitely need to buy a larger size.
