Aside from the usual fruit/string cheese/almonds/baby carrots ideas...my current go-to's are graham crackers with peanut butter and/or jelly, and cold cereal w/milk (I drink skim because I prefer the taste)

When I first got on MFP, I lost 25 pounds in 5 months, so I'm pretty sure it's possible ;) I didn't diet, cut out whole food groups, or do some weird restrictive thing, because that doesn't work for me. Smarter eating and appropriate portions most of the time, and lots of exercise worked for me. Good luck!

I understand feeling badly about oneself--I started out going to a gym when I was 50 pounds overweight. However, no one at my gym ever made fun of me, called me fat, or hassled me. I received nothing but kindness and support--and some great advice from both women and men. (and no, I don't belong to a gym that caters to any…

How far from Lakewood are you? There are so many different places on the Front Range to hike, it would be cool to explore. I am also pretty much a novice hiker--been focusing on running (mostly road running) the past few years. Does Saturday or Sunday work better for you? I normally do long runs on Sunday mornings…

Only one cat and one dog, but I live in a one-bedroom apartment and can only have two pets. Otherwise I'd probably have a few more cats ;)

I guess that's one way to work on my kick! :)

Lots of great advice here. I do disagree with the great disdain for treadmills--I definitely prefer to run outside, with friends or by myself with music, but depending on where you live/your schedule/weather etc, the treadmill is just fine as an occasional option. It's better than not running at all. Yesterday, for…

I work Mon-Fri so would only be available on occasional Saturdays or Sundays (Saturdays after my 7:30 AM running group, Sundays I usually do a long run, but can flex things a bit if we come up with something :)

Bump because I need a new chicken recipe...and yum! I would also go heavier on the garlic ;)

I know I'm a bit late on this...just started logging into MFP regularly again. I live in Southwest Denver/Lakewood/West Littleton area and would be interested in doing more hiking, maybe once or twice a month. Even though I'm a runner and have done some trail runs, I have not done much hiking so I am a bit of a…

If you can run a 10K in 1 hr, 32 mins, you can extrapolate that to estimate about a 3 hour, 15 minute half marathon, depending on your running pace/walking pace. Your goal for your first half, whether walking or running or a combination, should just be to finish. Upright and with a smile on your face (that's from the Jeff…

I finished my first half in 2011 in 2:49. I think I was about 160 at the time (I had lost about 40 pounds since the previous year). Honestly, though, I have had heavier friends finish faster than me and smaller friends run slower at various races, so size isn't always an indicator of finishing time...what matters is…

You might also try breathing in through your nose and out through the mouth (like yoga), if you have not already been doing that.

All excellent advice. It's not a "fail" if you continue to make an effort at it. Also keep in mind that there is no rule that you have to follow the program EXACTLY as is. Repeat weeks, use shorter running intervals, etc. I started out with Couch to 5k, tweaked it a great deal to meet my own needs at the time, and 3 years…

Why burro shaming? Did you feed the extra 18 calories to your burro?
