Can I be part of this group? I'm Jennifer and I am 52. I live in South Carolina and I have two teens, 15 and 18. Also I am happily mararied. I have been on MFP since mid-January and lost 12 pounds. I started doing Couch to 5K and last week I ran a mile without stopping for the first time in my entire life, ever. Not sure…

I started doing it about a week ago but I also do days of jogging in between, so I don't do it every day. Have done it about 3x now.

Leftovers from dinner last night: 6.2 ounces of shredded chicken with salsa in the crock pot. Yummy! I'm going to make that more often.

[/quote] All good advice. I try to make sure my wife gets out on her own every so often just to get a cup of coffee or what ever. Friday nights we have been playing raquet ball we leave our kids at the ymca babysitting for an hour. That is our "date night" right now, romantic I know lol. The time I have free I am serving…

Stress is different for everyone. I have two teenagers, and I can say that when my children were small (they are now 15 and 18) it was the most stressful time of my life. So I totally get where you are coming from. It is very difficult to deal with your own needs when you are expending so much energy dealing with the needs…

Thank you! I needed that. :)

I have been calling what I have been doing "jogging" because it just feels too early for me, and too boastful, to actually say I am a runner. I've only been at it a few weeks and I'm still learning a lot and pretty slow. And not going very far, either. That said, my JOGGING has been done with a GPS with the aim to increase…

Another way to serve baked white fish like tilapia place some tin foil on a baking sheet and spray it liberally with Pam or other cooking spray brush the fish on both sides with a little olive oil (you can also use butter if you prefer) mix up some bread crumbs and some grated parmesan cheese - you can use Ritz crackers…

Marinated grilled salmon - have been making this for years 1 salmon filet - any size, this is a flexible recipe - fresh salmon is best this way Marinade recipe is flexible, can adjust ingredients as desired, sometimes I use less oil for example and more OJ and garlic. Marinade 1/3 cup orange juice 1-2 tablespoons parsley,…

I've learned that I was eating a lot more than I thought I was before I started tracking.

Yes, I know that. :) Thanks

wouldn't the fact that I don't appear to have a lot of lean body weight affect that -- that my body fat percentage is on the high side?

I agree. A certain amount of frustration when others don't do what we tell them to do is part of almost any job. I think you need to get a different job. You're fried.

Ditto.

Ha, ha, do any of you remember that song from the 70s, "Short people." "Short people got no one to talk to...." etc. Very derogatory about short people, but kind of funny .... if you're tall that is. :)
-
I am 5-9.5 and I love being tall. I would never want to be a shortie. NEVER. Be glad you are tall! I also wear size 10-11 shoes, and I'm good with that, too. Be happy with who you are! ETA: I don't wear heels, at least not very high ones, not because of my height, but because I HATE wearing heels, they are SOOO…

I love this thread!!! I am 52 years old and I just started c25K. I am enjoying it, but it is challenging. I am so glad to read all these stories of other "older" folks who took up running!!!!!

I had not thought of this as an alternative low-impact form of aerobic exercise, but it sounds fun!

Most people don't work out more than once a day, probably, mostly just because of time. But if it works for you to split it up into two 30-minute workouts, I don't see why you can't do that. It's very individual. I think you'll find a lot of differences as to how often people work out, how log, and how many times a week. I…

I am for childhood vaccines. I believe they save lives. I was vaccinated as a child and so were my kids. I also get a flu vaccine every year. ETA: Anyone who thinks vaccines are worthless should spend some time with someone who had polio - who survived, that is. There are plenty of older adults who are polio victims. And…

I have learned I can do things that I thought I COULD NOT do!

Your weight is not going up for no reason. It's going up because you consume more than you burn. Age is somewhat of a factor, but in your 30s, not a significant one, IMO. It does gradually get more challenging to lose weight, although mostly because most people continue to become less active and lose muscle mass as they…

I have a small serving of chocolate most days, carefully chosen. I love Healthy Choice frozen Greek yogurt, have it maybe once or twice a week. I also have a glass or 2 of wine once or twice a week. It's harder for me to say no to 2 glasses of wine than it is to say no to 2 servings of chocolate.

Please be aware of this among young men, too. My brother was severely anorexic and bulemic during his college years, people don't think it happens to men, but it DOES.

This looks really good. I love cauliflower. I am going to try it. Thanks!!

What if you try to make changes gradually? It sounds like you're afraid this is it and you're never going to be able to eat the foods you want again so you get anxious. Try cutting back on calories gradually, and making gradual changes in your diet, subbing in some veggies and lean proteins, but still allowing yourself…
