I think the safest thing to do is keep running and act like the dog is not there. My little dog and I were chased by a dog that was acting aggressive the other day on a run, and he gave up when we both just kept on as if nothing was happening. I was so proud of her!! I agree that it's a good idea to underestimate calories burned. I'm pretty sure most calculators estimate over for me. Please don't discourage me from doing housework. I get so easily discouraged, I'm happier in an orderly environment, it makes my husband happy and it increases my NEAT.

No you don't have to snack. In fact, if you prefer not to snack, this is probably the best method for you. I snack because it is a preference. We are more likely to be successful is we eat in a way that is most enjoyable to us. So, don't snack!

I run, and sometimes I walk up a hill and down again. I used to kayak, ski, mountain climb, do gymnastics, dance and weight train. I'll do these things again in my fifties (except, perhaps, the gymnastics). I was never into sports, but if you think you are, there are lots of opportunities. Choose what you like to do!!

I get bored sometimes too. When I feel like walking I count backwards from 100. I find running the same route helps me, it seems faster somehow, probably because it is predictable.
