Has anyone tried the The Five-Pronged Approach to Weight Loss by Karen Hurd? Wondering if it has worked for any one, or what you think?

The school she got her nutrition "degee" from is pretty much a scam.

What are these five prongs? I know of only two that are required for weight loss--eating less and moving more.

Technically you only need 1 prong for weight loss.

Consume fewer calories then you burn.

I thought about that after I hit "create post," but I figured exercise is probably one of this woman's prongs, so I didn't edit. But true, all you need to do is get thediet under control.

Does anyone else think the word "prong" is hilarious and weird?

Google suggests this: http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3812923 but I don't know how accurate a representation of the original movie this blog post is.

I did a google search because I was curious. Anything "official" (her website) won't list the "prongs" because she wants you to buy the CDs.

    But I did find this:
Okay, so I watched the movie last week, and took some really good notes, and am going to post them on here for a few reasons, reason 1: If I lose them then I will have them permanetly stored here on Sparkpeople!!! Reason 2: Maybe someone else whose interested in going to Karen Hurd is out there, and is wondering what she has us to on a diet!!!

So here it goes( I should also mention that while I am posting on here I am eating whats left of a Red Velvet Cake!!!)
    Okay!!!

    1. Lower Aldosterone Levels – This causes you to stop retaining so much water!!!
    a. Limit Caffeine
    b. Limit Artificial Sweeteners
    c. Limit Perfumes
    d. Limit Chewing Gum
    e. Lower Stress Levels

    2. Change My Basic Metabolic Rate
    a. Drink more water
    b. Exercise Daily

    3. Limit Carbs/Glucose
    a. No sweets: Cakes, pies, muffins, fruit, breads, honey, jam, jelly, syrup, etc
    b. No Kool Aid, Lemonade, Gatorade, Powerade, etc
    c. Limit Starches, Breads, rice, Chips, Potatoes, Noodles, Oatmeal
    d. Eat Plenty of Legumes!! – 3 Servings a Day
    e. Eat Plenty of Veggies!! – 7 Servings a Day

    4. Eat Negative Calorie Foods
    a. Celery & Veggies cost more calories to eat, then they give us!!
    b. Eat 7 Servings a Day

    5. Snatch Food out of Blood Stream
    a. Eat Beans/Legumes 3 Times a day (1/2 Cup Servings)

Well these are her 5 ways and how to do them!! Today, I typed up our meal plan, and will be posting it on to my Nutrition Tracker tomorrow, and will be well on my way, to going from Fast Food Insanity, to Home Cooking Goodness!!!

(From a sparkpeople blog that came up in the google search)

And the whole thing sounds like a bunch a hooey.

"Negative calorie foods"? "Snatch food out of blood stream"?? :noway: :noway:

So, OP, I'd say it's not worth the cost to get the program.

ETA: ah, diannethegeek beat me to it, I believe that is the link to what I quoted.

Wow. Looks complicated and unnecessarily restrictive. I'm doing just fine on my one-pronged MFP approach. Plus, I'm sure many people would die if I limited my caffeine.

Also....WTH does "snatch food out of blood stream" mean? And negative calorie foods....oh never mind.

I hadn't heard of this approach before, thank you for sharing. It will be perfect for me.

My Five Pronged Approach to Weight Loss:

    1. Eat less
    2. Move more
    3. Waste time on the MFP forum with the excuse that it is helping me lose weight
    4. Buy smaller jeans
    5. Okay maybe it's a Four Pronged Approach

I do let the Blood Center snatch platelets out of my blood, but not often enough to count.

Pronged and snatch are weird words and reason enough to dismiss the OP approach!

    Edited to add: MMmmmmmm, prawns...

If I ate legumes that many times a day every day I'd have very few non-virtual friends. I do however often eat more that 5 prawns. Sometime 5 times a week.
