  • Losing weight is extremely frustrating. There are slight gains, long plateaus and missed goals along the way. But just KEEP AT IT.... Workout to stay fit and increase a your calorie intake and keep burning more than you eat and EVENTUALLY you will get there! (But DO NOT set a deadline on it because that is the most…
  • I was dieting and working out and despite that could NOT lose weight. I was at a plateau for more than a year. Totally frustrated! There is a LOT of evidence that gut flora impacts depression, weight loss and perhaps even Alzheimer's and Autism. So I started taking Ultimte Flora and have lost 8 lbs in the last two months.…
  • why not try walking in the morning. Park your car a bit further from your job or get off the bus a few stops earlier and walk for twenty minutes. walking can be very pleasant and is excellent exercise when you are just starting out.
  • I am less successful losing weight if I don't eat back some of my calories. I try to eat back all but 200-300 calories on super high calorie burning days.
  • It depends if you want bulk or flexibility. Stretch is essential for flexibility. It also helps older people reduce those aches and pains. But stretch should take place after the workout.

  • High blood pressure causes headaches Go see your doctor and make sure to get your blood pressure checked.
  • I find weight loss is not linear and that setting goals like that is self defeating. But if you keep tracking and working out you will see an improved fitter body!
  • I'm 60 this month! And I have to work REALLY HARD just not to be stiff all day long. I do 20 minutes of yoga, 40 minutes of elliptical, and a 20 minute core and stretch just to not spend the day being stiff and limpy! Welcome to the second half!!! And don't even get me started about how difficult weight loss is!!!!!!
  • Cowichan Bay on Vancouver Island! Feel free to add me!
  • People who speed in parking lots or school zones OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!
  • When I went to weight watchers they told me to eat back at least SOME of my exercise calories. Although not eating back the exercise calories worked for me when I was younger, since menopause I actually CAN NOT lose weight if I do not eat enough of my calories back.
  • Eat breakfast. Even if it is just a banana. I used to not eat breakfast. When I hit menopause my metabolism STOPPED and even though I did not drink sodapop, I exercised and ate whole grains only I gained about 100 lbs. I went to weightwatchers and they said EAT BREAKFAST and EAT BACK YOUR CALORIES and low an behold, I…

  • Yes, lots of people have plateaus. Everybody's body is actually quite different and if you don't hit plateaus consider yourself lucky. For those of us who do, it is very frustrating. But just keep pushing through and eventually your perseverance will pay off. Keep tracking, keep working out and sooner or later you will…

  • Do you get a lunch hour or coffee break? Can you take a fifteen or twenty minute walk during lunch break or coffee break? You don't have to start huge. Start small. Ten minutes of exercise is better than none.
  • Posting to a silly thread about flagging for dieting advice????? :open_mouth:
  • That's what I like about MFP People are SO helpful!
  • I have the most basic fitbit. I use it ONLY as a cheering mechanism. I really like the HURRAYS on the website when I meet my distance/step/calorie burning goals. It helps me keep on track but I do not think it is great. It does NOT count my 3/4 mile swim... It's suggested calorie in take is so low that I gain weight if I…
  • I did that too by undereating carbs for decades and hitting menopause. My metabolism came to a dead halt. It has been really difficult but I am slowly slowly eating properly and finally losing weight. I agree that seeing a doctor is the first step, but my doctor, though he has been excellent in other things, did not seem…
  • Oddly enough, I lose more weight on the days I do not work out and only eat 1200 calories. I work out to eat more food and because usually it makes me feel better. But don't beat yourself when you let a day or two slide. There is not point to that at all. Just admit to yourself that you needed a rest and you took it! Good…
  • Do a lot of exercise before you go. 50 minutes of swimming/elliptical or calisthenics will give you a lot of calories! Then you can go and enjoy whatever you like!
  • Or if you have the time use fresh fruits, even yummier!
  • Yogurt nuts and dried fruits. Yummy, and quite light!
  • I plan my late night snacks into my meal plan for the day. So I leave myself 450 calories for the snacks. That way I am still under calories AND I have my frozen yogurt with nuts and chocolate syrup and cookies. Oh yeah, and I work out 40 minutes on the elliptical ost days to earn my snacks!
  • Always eat breakfast even if it is just a banana. Always carry healthy snacks and water with you. Easy such snacks are carrot sticks, nuts or fruit. Get a water bottle and take it with you everywhere. If you are never STARVING you will never need to fill up on unhealthy and fattening foods. Never take an elevator or…
  • When I was younger and very thin, fit and active I typically had my period once or twice a year. Apparently many gymnasts, stewardesses and very thin women do not have regular periods. Low weight, High activity and air travel seem to affect it. However BEWARE: My periods lasted until I was 57 and as I hit perimenopause I…
  • I hate lifting weights too, not because people stare just because I hate doing it, but I DO do it twice a week because I am sixty and do not want osteoporosis.
  • I have had plateaus that lasted 7 weeks! But I just kept tracking and exercising and then lost a bit more before plateauing again. When I was younger I could just eat less exercise more and lose weight. In my experience that is NOT the case after 50. I have to be sure eat back most of my exercise calories and I have to…
