  • The study isn't saying that we're faking our symptoms, merely that what's causing our symptoms may be something other than NCGS. Maybe it's just me, but, I'd like to know the truth behind what makes me sick, not merely believe what makes me feel comfy to believe. Cognitive dissonance is not flattering on anyone. Edit:…
  • Ah, I understand now. I also agree. I am also still on the fence. While I am looking into this FODMAP thing for my IBS and migraines, I am also not ruling out gluten until it is definitively proven that NCGS does not exist. Unlike most other NCGS patients, I can at least have an open mind to science :frown: Edit: n0t…
  • What I don't understand is, if you have diagnosed IBS and migraines and reflux issues why are you not at least entertaining the idea of FODMAPs? Especially having IBS! A two second search on FODMAPs brought up a list of IBS sites and how removal of FODMAPs can reduce IBS symptoms. Instead you're just bucking against the…
  • I find alcohol based mouth washes from the pharmacy do quite nice to get rid of oral issues. If not, you should spend a bit of your student's income and see a doctor.
  • "Consumption of the artificial sweetener aspartame raises plasma phenylalanine levels, thereby increasing brain phenylalanine and, conceivably, affecting the synthesis of monoaminergic brain neurotransmitters known to underlie various types of behaviour." We must be using two different Google's as I seem to be getting far…
  • An overdose of certain artificial sweeteners can cause severe neurological symptoms and even permanent damage, I think also seizures and coma are a possibility. I forget what the OD dose was, but I do remember thinking that I couldn't consume that much artificial sweetener over the course of an entire day let alone in a…
  • Yet because they rarely specify whether or not the smoke used has gluten, Celiacs need to treat it as though it does contain gluten. Just like maltodextrin, just like "spices", etc etc etc. Not all those ingredients will contain gluten, yet rarely do they specify. Therefore, all smoke, maltodextrin, "flavour", "spices" et…
  • Processed meats like sausages often have fillers, but for bacon it's actually the smoke flavouring that contains the gluten; because they're not actually smoking it, they're adding a liquid that is suppose to taste like smoke. Most bacon contains "smoke".
  • There are definitely brands of bacon that are gluten-free. When we thought I may be Celiac (before the test came about) we were eating gluten-free bacon... I can't remember the brand though :ohwell: Edits: Ok, that makes a bit more sense. Thank you FODMAPs is what gives. Read the study again. I had been told, not…
  • If I eat starchy/gluten-y foods once a week I never recover fully enough to tolerate large amounts of food. If I really trigger my IBS symptoms it can take at least a week to get under control - a week of very strict liquid dieting. The first time I went gluten/FODMAP-free it took weeks to feel fully normal.
  • My understanding of this is to test the effects of a low FODMAP diet in subjects believed to be NCGS (non-celiac gluten sensitive). To me, this says nothing of dispelling the idea of NCGS's existence. I read this as saying that there is no evidence of gluten effects in patients put on a low FODMAP diet. This is confusing…
  • HS: 5'11, 115lbs Now: 5'9, 231lbs 115 would look anorexic, even on my shortened stature. I'm aiming for a minimum 140lbs, which leaves 91lbs to go.
  • This is probably it, actually. My self-esteem and confidence nose-dived with the weight gain. Thinking that people think I'm disgusting really makes me introverted. It's probably my issue not theirs.
  • Sometimes it's as though people think fatness is contagious XD
  • Even at my absolute thinnest (115lbs, ew) I still had a little belly pooch. At my fittest with visible abs I still had a tiny little pooch. Sometimes it's just genetics.
  • Cocoa. I use cocoa in my sugar-free smoothie every morning and I don't get chocolate cravings any more... 'cause of the obvious :p I still get cravings to just sit and eat so I make sure to stay full on water. If it's a general sweet-tooth moment, I trick myself with a super "sweet" smoothie made with sweetener and berries.
  • I drink water, for me often it's actually thirst. If I'm craving potatoes I increase my potassium intake, if I crave processed foods I increase my sodium; I've begun drinking daily electrolytes and it seems to be helping with certain cravings so far.
  • Technically the minimum is 0. Some obese dude took in nothing but vitamins and water for a year in the name of science. Seriously, look it up.
  • "In conclusion, RK prevents and improves obesity..." What part about improving obesity does not include weight loss? I do not believe they are talking about increasing obesity when they discuss improving obesity. Then you don't actually understand.
  • Do you not understand that for ethical reasons humans are not used in preliminary studies? Also this: "Another reason rodents are used as models in medical testing is that their genetic, biological and behavior characteristics closely resemble those of humans, and many symptoms of human conditions can be replicated in mice…
  • Celery? Sip water? Gum? Or just stop doing it. Hard, yes, but doable.
  • "Conclusions.— Garcinia cambogia failed to produce significant weight loss and fat mass loss beyond that observed with placebo." http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=188147 So far the articles appear to agree that GC is crap for weight loss efforts.
  • " In conclusion, RK prevents and improves obesity and fatty liver. These effects appear to stem from the action of RK in altering the lipid metabolism, or more specifically, in increasing norepinephrine-induced lipolysis in white adipocytes." http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0024320505001281 There's…
  • So far I have found the opposite to be true. I'm not trying to be an @ss, but, do you have specific articles you got this info from? "When fat mass decreases, the level of plasma leptin falls so that appetite is stimulated until the fat mass is recovered. There is also a decrease in body temperature and energy expenditure…
  • I've been an @sshat without even realizing I've been an @sshat. Most commonly, I just don't realize certain words or wording can trigger a hostile response in someone who feels I'm being an @sshat. And yes, I'm working on that. Whether I've triggered someone into being an @sshole, or they're simply an @sshat to begin with,…
  • Sweeteners don't make me crave sugar, but they often make me thirsty.
