So....whole response was fake. Woman in pic is anonymous. Is still anonymous. A hack writer decided to make up what he thinks her response should be (to promote his own cause)....and the only bad guy here is the trainer? Trainer exploited picture of woman. Writer exploited picture of woman. Can somebody please explain the…

Wait. Wut???? This isn't a real response? Someone just pretended to be her and respond on her behalf? And the trainer is being accused of exaggerating about how much food she ate? Meanwhile the response is completely fabricated. Trainer may be a douche, but the guy writing fake responses is far douchier.

My 13 year old daughter is horrified if I step out of the house.

I'm just gonna leave this right here... http://www.nature.com/ijo/journal/v39/n5/abs/ijo2014182a.html?WT.ec_id=IJO-201505

Did you not read what she wrote at all?? One of the things that brought us together was what I had thought was a sincere desire on both our parts to get healthier, both through healthier eating and a healthier lifestyle in general. He was already considering WLS, As for the rest of the thread, I agree with everyone who…

ecig....definitely, ecig.

Seems to me that it's far more complicated to weigh and measure every morsel of food/drink I put into my mouth rather than just deciding to not eat XXXX anymore. I did weigh. It does work. I lost 40 lbs. But I'm never doing it again. I certainly wouldn't make a conscious choice to do that for the rest of my life and tell…

I think that's fair.

Not at all; and that's my point. 100 calories in is still 100 calories in. IF you're willing to concede that not all types of calories are burned the same way once it goes inside your body, than why is it so oft-stated that "all calories are the same when it comes to weight loss?" Doesn't this mean that preaching "CICO is…
-
I think the real impact isn't about macros. I don't even think it's about dialing in your calories to meet this goal or that goal. The real issue here is that your body isn't metabolizing all the calories you are providing it. If true, the idea of CICO becomes seriously flawed; and suddenly, it does matter what you eat.

No, that's not what this article is saying at all. It is saying that all calories ARE NOT equal for weight loss. If it is correct, and I don't necessarily know one way or the other; but if it is correct, it's saying your body doesn't process calories the same depending on food. You can eat 100 calories of a twinkie and…

The usual shenanigans that generally come with stating that not all foods are created equally.

The animated gifs are notably missing from this post.

It amazes me that this article isn't more hotly debated. If I am reading this correctly, the article (not me) is postulating that absorption/digestive rates of certain types of calories can vary significantly. That variation can throw a rather large wrench in the a calorie is a calorie argument.

Most sensible thing I've read on MFP for a long time.

I think measuring your resting heart rate over some period of time (and fitness regimen) is interesting. I don't use it for calorie burns.

Christine, there are literally hundreds of vape vendors that sell Diacetyl-free juice. Go to the e-cigarette-forum if you want to really get the inside scoop on all things vape.
-
Why?

The bolded part is where you lost me. If the ALA was actually interested in the well-being of Americans' lungs, they'd all be getting on board with vaping and encouraging it as a smoke cessation product. Instead they shill for products like Nicotrol and Chantix which are far more harmful.

I considered the fuse - I think it actually looks pretty cool - but per their website, HR can drain the battery down to 11-12 hours. Good for measuring exercise activity, but not for gathering resting heart rate info. Also, no GPS.

Surge comes pretty close. Only missing the third bullet -- as all wrist-based hrm's are prone to do. Before going to far down the Apple iRoad, make sure you check and are okay with battery life. Apple is reporting 18 hours...which means 12-14. An all day activity tracker that can't last all day...

In science, there is something called the Observer Effect. Not quite on point, but its basically true here. The act of observation changes the phenomenon being observed. That is exactly what Fitbit is good for. It's the same as using MFP to journal your food intake. By detailing your food intake, you unconsciously change…

OMG that has to be the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

Try to scratch your back. If you can't reach as far back as you used to be able to, you probably injured your rotator cuff. Don't do what I did and ignore it. Rotator cuff problems eventually lead to permanent limits on your range of motion. Trust me on this one.

I have to imagine my job is more sendentary than most of yours. I spend the vast majority of my day on the phone or in meetings. I am only ever to get 10k if I am focused on it. Here are my tips: 1) Use speakerphone and pace when on conference calls (only works if you have an office). 2) Never email/IM/call someone when…

My guess is your arms are tired now because you haven't really used them for a week or so when they were all jacked up. Get back into it slowly. On the other hand, you may have hyperextended some of the muscles in your rotator cuff, which is why you couldn't put your hands over your head for a week. It's possible to…

I am caveating this to say that this is my belief. I am sharing it. I am not attempting to preach, persuade or otherwise judge those who don't share this belief. Lent has been completely bastardized; as is the idea of fasting. I don't have a problem with folks who give up meat on Fridays or give up sweets for 40 days or…

Don't you guys ever get sick of talking about how much you hate pf? And have you ever noticed that every post re: PF starts with "...I have a friend who..." #UrbanLegends
