  • Let me just start off with "Crazy" isn't a scientific word. So there's a lot of wiggle room there. And I'll follow that up with the strong advice that if you even suspect that you might have real mental health issues then you need to be talking to a PROFESSIONAL and not an internet forum. You get that right? You've been…
  • I can echo what MissMe913 said. Beating yourself up is as useless as trying to fix yesterday. Instead focus on today. And just today. I found that when I was out of control I needed to focus on getting back on track one step at at time. Like no sugary drinks first. When that works no processed foods (spelled cookies). If I…

  • I'm an atheist with a bit of time in AA who's just starting OA. My atheism has NEVER been a barrier to working a 12 step program. As long as you do not consider yourself to be the most important thing in the Universe you can find a higher power.
  • I do weigh ins and measurements every two weeks. I have to go to the VA on that schedule anyway so I step on the scale when I'm there and get a good accurate number that tells me how my weight is trending without a daily number jerking my attitude around.
  • I found weighing daily to be a bad idea for me. Currently I weigh myself at the VA because I have to go there every two weeks anyway. I can get a very accurate weight and I'm not making myself crazy watching my weight (and my cheap scale) jerk me around every day. My weight change over a two week period is certainly…
  • My "normal" coffee habit was 4-6 cups of coffee with 6 teaspoons of sugar in each one. I tell people I don't really like coffee, but I love coffee flavored candy. Of course I had to quit that if I'm serious about loosing weight so I switched to tea for breakfast. I can limit that to just two cups with a little over an…
  • As a general rule I'd say listen to your surgeon but I think it's a better idea to listen to TWO surgeons. Get a second opinion BEFORE someone starts cutting on you. If you have a friend in the area who has had the operation then talk to them about their experience and if it was good see if you can get a consult from their…
  • I'm a disabled vet with long term chronic back pain. It finally got so bad it shut me down, virtually locked me into a recliner all day. Here are the two things that got me out of it: Finding the right pain med. Some of the famous stronger ones (sign pain contracts, warnings against addiction, sign for postal receipt, etc)…

  • I just started. I'm at 394 and should probably weigh around 170. There are plenty of us out here with a long way to go. If anyone needs motivation I strongly suggest watching an episode or two of "My 600 Pound Life". It scared me into dieting again.
  • I would say DON'T trust the values in the food database until you check them out. Google is great for that. Just enter "Calories in broccoli" or whatever food you're after and compare those values for that entry in the food database. Some of those numbers are 100% off.
  • Marisa, If it turns out to be just one item that's fine. But right now I don't trust any food database entries until I check them. Fortunately I eat pretty basic foods or this would get out of hand very quickly.
  • That's just it Juli, I DID just add two eggs. And got 10% more calories and over 100% more sodium than the USDA database says are in the actual egg. I looked at a bunch of "scrambled eggs" entries in the food database and they're all over the place with no notation about adding salt, milk, or anything else. In theory…
  • Hmmm. I wondered if they were just assuming that I added salt. I account for things like oil and salt separately. I've seen milk added but never considered it a standard. Really I think I'm going to have to compare EVERY food entry to the USDA database to see what's might be squirlly about it. John
