  • I would encourage you to listen to your doctor, wait for the MRI results, and continue to follow medical recommendations. Don't do anything that could make your injury worse. Re-evaluate your calorie intake if you're looking to lose weight.
  • I like my Garmin 610 - it's an older model, has the option of pairing with a HRM, and has some nice features. I have runner friends that use even older Garmin models that still love them. If you feel like doing some research, DC Rainmaker is a great resource for reviews/buyer guides.
  • Mine's open to friends - feel free to add!
  • Torani makes a splenda-based Pumpkin Pie flavored coffee syrup. Add to a skim milk latte and you're good to go.
  • I'm beginning to think I'm not going to reach my goal...but I'll do my best! 5/4: 3.63 mi 5/11: 3.39 mi 5/13: 3.95 mi 5/16: 2.33 mi 5/18: 4.45 mi 5/21: 3.02 mi
  • forgot to log a few :) 5/4: 3.63 mi 5/11: 3.39 mi 5/13: 3.95 mi 5/16: 2.33 mi 5/18:4.45 mi
  • before i switched to a running belt i had a shoe wallet - it had a clip on the back that you slid through your laces to keep it in place. not very big (won't hold a phone), but can handle cash/keys/ID.
  • agreed! i've found that, especially on my long runs, it's nice to unplug and keep the focus on my breathing and the world around me. but i still carry a tiny mp3 player with me just in case i need the boost. it's been a life saver at times.
  • that's a great list of tips. i know some people are fundamentally opposed to running with music/headphones, but sometimes when i'm mentally exhausted all it takes is one really great song to relight my fire. i agree that it might be training fatigue, though, and tapering will help with that.
  • give yourself rest days, and do more stretching at the end than what the video shows (esp calves) - its painfully inadequate.
  • i did one last year in July. if you already have decent upper body strength and endurance, i'd say 8 weeks is plenty of time. i think somewhere on the site it says that you should be able to do at least 20 push ups, 2 pull ups, and run a 5k. i was able to finish without having much upper body strength because i had my team…
  • running outdoors is very different from the elliptical, as you found out. give your body time to adapt to it. slow down, don't go as far, try incorporating walk intervals (gradually increase the running, with time), and make sure you're properly hydrated (especially if it's sunny/hot outside). it'll get easier, just give…
  • This, especially #3. I would add to this list - try putting on soothing music or a sound machine when you go to sleep. I'm a really light sleeper - takes forever for me to fall asleep and it's not uncommon for me to wake up 6-7 times a night. the past two weeks i've started listening to a calming meditation track before…
  • a hot day, but got my miles in :D 5/4: 3.63 mi 5/11: 3.39 mi 5/13: 3.95 mi
  • i agree that you should slow down, or incorporate some walk intervals into your run (maybe try couch to 5k). i also find that my throat is much more comfortable during a run if i'm chewing gum - something about the increased saliva and mint flavor combination makes it easier for me to breathe.
  • on the other side of things...i recently threw away all of my "skinny' clothes. i'm talking about the jeans/pants/skirts i could fit into 10 years ago when I was 30lbs lighter, that I've been hanging on to and desperately hoping i'd be able to fit in to one day. i also had "goal pants" that i'd purchased in hopes that i'd…
  • Old Navy has a lot of cute, cheap stuff. I also do a lot of shopping at Sierra Trading Post - great place to pick up discounted Smartwool or Icebreakers (if you're in to merino wool socks/shirts).
  • isn't this kind of what OP is talking about?
  • i find it interesting to see so many people experiencing lost steps with the flex. i've had one since december, and i've been really impressed by how sensitive it is. it picks up my steps if i'm walking with my arms folded (as i often do because i get cold easily), if i'm looking at my phone while walking, when i'm holding…
  • the majority of limes are grown in mexico - this year heavy rains damaged the blossoms, which lead to a decrease in production. cartels have also been looting groves and transports, which further drives up the scarcity and price.
  • another fan of the nathan quickshot here. i used the 10oz bottle for my half marathon training - it was a little small for the higher mileage (10+), but was great for anything less than that. the hand holster can get a little sweaty, so i'd swap it a few times from hand to hand. the side pouch is perfect for holding…
  • once i learned the routine, i put the video on mute and played my own music - much more enjoyable experience.
  • I could also use some more active Runkeeper peeps:
  • Had a serious motivational lapse, but I'm back on the wagon. 5/4: 3.63 mi 5/11: 3.39 mi
  • I did TM last year and didn't carry anything except for a Gu packet stuffed into the key pocket of my leggings. It stayed there the entire time because the aid stations were ample enough. One thing I do wish that I'd had is sunscreen. I burn really easily, and I can still see the x marks from my tank top on my back :( they…
  • i feel like this is the key. when increasing weekly mileage, it's recommended to follow the 10% rule (ie, if you're running 10 miles a week, don't increase past 11 miles the next week). if you've been running 10 miles a week and suddenly up that to 15, your body's going to feel the strain. no shoe is going to be able to…
  • i added you! anyone else in the thread can add me too. friends are nice to have!
  • i've had the same problem - solved it by wrapping a rubber band around the fitbit in the charging unit. seems to keep it in place pretty well.
  • ah, food babies...a big meal can put my stomach into second trimester territory! they are temporary and do go away (unlike real babies). also, what everyone else said about water retention, needing to poop, general bloat...our bodies have fluctuations. don't stress about them too much.
  • a couple years ago I lost around 20lbs in a lame attempt to get my ex back - while it resulted in a few fun hook-ups, it didn't address the root problem of him just not feeling the same way about me. hot body or not, he wasn't interested in a relationship. i ended up gaining the weight back because my main source of…
