  • I'm just getting back into it again, too. I find that having everything I will need and some stuff prepared and ready to eat makes it easier. Some of my staples are lunch meats, cheese, tuna salad, deviled eggs, celery (when I need a crunchy snack). Also, chocolate fat bombs, cream cheese clouds and low carb cheesecake. I…
  • Do you know why the doctor wants to put off the surgery? Doesn't make sense to me to go on heavy duty pain meds when the knee replacement is going to be necessary eventually. I had a knee replacement a year ago after limping in great pain for 2 years. Wish I'd done it earlier.
  • I eat a LOT more salt on LCHF than I ever have. But I just got blood tests back and my sodium level was 1 point UNDER the normal. I would think that unless you have a health reason to limit sodium don't worry about it.

  • Possibly that's too many carbs. 10% of 1500 calories a day would be 150 carbs. Try lowering that.
  • I used to experience hypoglycemia for years before I was diagnosed with Type 2 DM. I I read that hypoglycemia is a precursor to type 2 DM) It really sucks. I think low carb definitely helps. You're not eating the foods that will spike your blood sugar so there's no rebound of it going really low. Another thing to consider…
  • Hi and welcome. I agree that getting enough fat is crucial. If I keep my fat intake high then I don't have cravings or much hunger. And yes! Losing weight will most likely ease your back pain. If you have access to a swimming pool try some water aerobics or just walking/jogging in water. The water lets your spine stretch…
  • Be sure to clean the sot you're going to prick. I did it once forgetting that I'd recently put hand lotion on. It read 142. Washed my hands and it read 106. Evidently my hand lotion has sugar in it????? The meter is really handy to see if a certain food spikes your blood sugar. I take a reading before I eat whatever it is,…
  • As for weighing, I think the important thing to remember is that your weight will fluctuate a few pounds every day. Just don't freak out about it. I can fluctuate several pounds daily. Because of this I weigh every morning then average it for the week so I can see the trend. I generally only lose 1-1.5 pounds a week so if…
  • I think this is the Dr. Fung http://intensivedietarymanagement.com/ He has a lot of interesting information. It's interesting to read everyone's experiences. I'm thinking about doing the 16:8 fast.
  • Don't panic! I find eating out easy. Just eat the meat and green veggies and avoid the bread and potatoes. Most restaurants will make substitutions for you. If the steak comes with a baked potato, ask for steamed veggies and butter instead. As for hotel room snacks, I'd go with cheese, nuts, cold cuts. Fast food is a…
  • As a Type 2 Diabetic, you might find this video interesting. http://intensivedietarymanagement.com/two-big-lies-type-2-diabetes-video-lecture/ It really clears up a lot of the science. Also as encouragement, I can tell you that I've taken my A1c from 7.2 to 5.6. I'm actually not considered diabetic any longer. But I will…
  • I remember the first two week my stomach rumbled a lot! Adding a lot of fat to your diet will take some getting used to. Before LCHF I was taking 400mg of magnesium. I've upped that to 800 mg. I'm prone to leg cramps and the magnesium definitely helps. I know a lot of people take potassium too. My potassium level is good…
  • I've noticed that my weight goes up and down more than before I was doing LCHF. It often varies 5# a day. I weigh every day and average my weight for the week.
  • How about Cream Cheese Clouds? 8 oz. Cream Cheese (softened) 1/2 cup butter (softened) Sweetener to equal 1/2 - 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 to 1 teaspoon flavoring - I like Lemon or vanilla extract. Beat with electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Drop spoonfuls onto a cookie sheet and freeze. Keep in the freezer. I line the cookie…
  • I think the RDA is 400 mg. I take 800 mg. I'm going to check my supplements for additives, too.
  • My weight fluctuates a lot. For that reason I weigh every day then average it for the week.
  • Magnesium. It's a natural muscle relaxer. Some people feel drowsy if they take it during the day so night time is better (also helps you sleep). One warning - too much might cause diarrhea. I think the RDA is 400mg, but every body is different. I take 800 mg.
  • This would be a nightmare for me. The FAQ states low carb is 100-50 carbs a day, fat intake is 20-30 a day. They don't mention an amount of protein but let's assume 100 grams. That amounts to a total of 1070 calories. I can see where you'd lose weight, but I'd be starving and sick all the time. And angry - possibly…
  • Hi wabmester. I've always had really good lipid numbers so my results aren't astounding but still significant I think. Last year I lost 30 pounds by counting every calorie that went into my mouth. My lipid results improved just a tiny bit. This year I had the lipid panel done after 4 weeks of LCHF (7 pound wieght loss) and…
  • I'm happy for cheesecake for breakfast. Had some dental stuff done yesterday so chewing is out of the question for a couple of days. The cheesecake was easy to eat and delish.
  • I've had that for years. My doc said to eat something before bedtime (protein + carbs). That seemed to help a little. Now that I've gotten my A1C down to 5.6 it's not as pronounced. I've been keto for 4 weeks and my fasting glucose has dropped from 130-140 to 110-115.
  • I've always had very good cholesterol numbers. Just had a lipid panel done after 4 weeks of keto and my numbers were better than ever (yay!). TC: 178 (down from 184) HDL: 79 (up from 68) LDL: 84 (down from 95) Trig: 77 (down from 98) All other tests were good as well. I'm seeing a new Primary Care Doc and this will help…
  • I log my food mostly to count carbs, protein and fat. So, calories are logged but that isn't a goal for me. The first week my carbs were around 50 and calories were around 2200, the second week carbs dropped to about 30 and calories to about 1900. Currently starting the 4th week and carbs are 20-25, calories around 1700.…
  • I'm type 2 and my blood sugar is fine with the atkins bars. I'd suggest she test her blood sugar an hour after eating one and see if her glucose spikes.
  • I've read that as the fat cells empty they fill with water for a time. Eventually they release the water and the scale moves down. That's why you'll see the same number on the scale for a while and then suddenly lose a pound or more.
  • My ketostix started testing positive 2-3 days into keeping my carbs around 30. But I'd been keeping them around 50-100 for a long time so maybe that sped it up.
  • If you go from low carb to high carb you will replenish your glycogen stores and that will result in several pounds. There are other health benefits to eating LC besides weight loss. I feel better mentally, have more energy and just naturally eat less because I'm not craving something and hungry all the time. I will always…
  • YES! 2 weeks on LCHF. I've lost 4 pounds and my blood pressure has dropped 20 points. I also have more energy and focus. Most of all I feel satisfied. No cravings, no feeling hungry and not knowing what I want to eat. I feel like I have to think less with this WOE than any other.
  • My favorite for baking is Erythritol. It has the same volume as sugar. I use stevia in drinks.
  • Exactly. The first couple of months were OK, then the misery set in.
