  • I love all of the people responding to this genuinely. :)
  • I love soy sauce eggs. I make a batch of four and store the other three to grab and munch during the week. You can use a low sodium soy sauce, but tamari is best. Here's a recipe- http://rasamalaysia.com/soy-sauce-eggs-shoyu-tamago/
  • Don't be hard on yourself for not putting fitness on your priority list during difficult times. You're emotional health should be number one now, because it is far more fragile. I cannot recommend a good therapist highly enough to get you through these trying times. Best wishes.

  • This is from the webMD page on fasting- "When you fast, your body is forced to dip into energy stores to get the fuel it needs to keep going, so you will lose weight. The big question is how long you will keep that weight off. Because food was often scarce for our ancestors, our bodies have been genetically programmed to…
  • I've read that drinking lots and lots of water will help with this. But I agree with the lady above- just don't do a weigh-in when you know you're bloated. :)
  • Getting started really is the most difficult part of any weight loss plan. Our bodies and our minds like routine and homeostasis and they resist change because, face it, it's hard. If you can convince her to try a very small and easily attainable goal with you, maybe the momentum from that will help to motivate her to…
  • I absolutely change my order when I can see the calories, and go out of my way to find them when they're not listed. We have the same thing here in Seattle and it's a lifesaver!
  • You know, it's incredibly difficult to work on your physical health when your emotional health is struggling. The things that you're saying sound a lot more like depression than your run-of-the-mill difficulty losing weight and, let me tell you, it can be nearly impossible to overcome depression-induced overeating without…
  • I'm pretty fit and lead an active lifestyle, so level 1 wasn't a challenge for me except in my weak spot- upper body strength. It helps to use a lighter weight just to get through it in the beginning, or no weight at all if that's what it takes. Progress at you own pace and tweak the things that you can to make it doable…
  • Mine is set at 1200 as well. It is set by your beginning weight, how many pounds you'd like to lose a week and your activity level. When I try to make "normal" foods fit into 1200 calories, it can be a real challenge. It's far easier if I follow a menu plan, especially the You:on a diet plan through realage.com . That…
  • You've already come so far! Just remember that, even if you go over your calorie goal, you're still probably doing waaaaaay better than you would without the diet and will still be losing weight, just not as quickly as you would if you stuck to your plan. I have to remind myself of this constantly. Sometimes, if I…
  • I've taken several nutrition courses in my college career so I feel I can answer this pretty easily for you. Think of your metabolism like a fire place. If there's no kindling in it, it's cold and dormant. Your body is in "starvation mode" and is saving as much as it can. Now, if you just dump a bunch of logs in an empty…
  • If there is one thing that I can recommend that I don't think anyone else has already mentioned, it's a good therapist. I've never had self-esteem issues myself but have a therapist to help me with anxiety and just life in general. She is warm, wonderful, helpful, encouraging, and just a safe person to be you with. You're…
  • Every nutrition course I've taken in college has spent at least a week explaining why low carb diets are incredibly unhealthy for your body and cause decreased metabolism and ultimately more weight gain that's harder to deal with. Here's some additional info: http://www.ehow.com/about_5038015_lowcarb-diets-bad.html Just…
  • As hokey as it is, I really like the YOU:On a Diet policy- if you make a diet mistake, just recognize it, reaffirm your commitment to your diet and "make a u-turn". This thought process gives you a way to distance yourself from the behavior you wish to change without encouraging guilt or feelings of defeat. If we lived in…

  • Any exercise is good exercise. If you can't do the DVD every single day, it's not like it won't have any effect. It just won't be as drastic and sudden. Maybe try sticking with lvl 3 for a couple weeks longer than you planned to for super awesome results.
  • I love all soups! I always have about 4 cartons of Imagine Organic Veggie Broth in my cupboard so I can toss any veggies that are getting old into a pot and create deliciousness. If you like beets, try making a cheat version of Borsct. Just saute carrots and onions, add broth, canned sliced beets and rinsed saurkraut to a…

  • If you go to realage.com and use their You:On A Diet meal planner, you won't be able to go wrong. You'll be eating delicious, healthy foods all day long, always coming in under 1,200. I am never hungry with the Real Age meal plans and, the best part, your stomach and mind are retrained to crave healthy foods in reasonable…
  • Are your mother and grandmother overweight themselves? In my experience, if people are self-conscious about their own weight, they can try to keep others in the unhealthy weight range with them. I've had friends that had continually brought me cookies and cakes and ice cream even after specifically asked them not to. If…
