  • Get a Fitbit or similar tracking device that interfaces with MFP. It will track all of your daily movement without effort from you. The only things it won't track effectively are swimming, biking and weight lifting type activities. Walking and running, even in the course of just going about your life will be tracked.
  • First suggestion I have is to get a fitbit or similar exercise tracking device. Don't get a wrist one as it doesn't track when you are carrying things, and you likely carry books lots. Link that device to your MFP account and it will tell you exactly how many calories to eat for your weight loss goal. I'm down 46 lbs and…
  • I think the op is looking for a way to very accurately track the calories burned through activity, not maintenance calories.
  • This would be awesome, but I don't think its feasible with current technology. I think to get this level of accuracy, scientists are monitoring all the same stats we already have, plus monitoring all breathing activity by having the subject breathe through a special mask during the entire activity. Its possible that…
  • Ice before and after running, then just decide when to stop based on pain. You might get 500 feet, or you might get 4 miles. Stop when your body tells you to. I would avoid any real hills at all though, up or down.
  • Bring her a pizza or some pasta. She doesn't need healthy food, she needs food that tastes irresistible and will improve her mood. Healthy food can come in a few days.
  • Good job....and I have a job where I get to see how people deal with trauma every single day. I assure you that those people who appear composed and graceful are falling apart when no one is looking. You are not any weaker than anyone else. Saying screw it and getting on the scale is the only way to get past that first…
  • Ok, I guess I have to eat my own words. I've read plenty of negative things about artificial sweeteners in the past, but now that you challenged me to find them, It appears government researchers in various countries have debunked most of the claims of negative health outcomes associated with artificial sweeteners. I stand…
  • I wasn't trying to be harsh, I was trying to point out how much courage it took to face up to cancer and win, and how the scale is just a stupid box in the bathroom........I think the op has enough courage to do this, just needs to stop building the scale up to be this huge thing. Just hop on and see what happens.
  • I've had to basically only eat food I prepare myself. In my case its because I ensure I'm weighing and measuring each ingredient, and I can't do that for a whole recipe my family eats some of. Your boyfriend is being supportive and saying he cares for you exactly as you are, that's what he is supposed to say. Just thank…
  • You're saying you had the courage to face up to cancer, but can't step on a stupid box in your bathroom? I think you can do it when you want to, make a decision and do it. If you want to chicken out, then don't look at the number, let your son look at the number and he's your way of being accountable without you having to…
  • First of all, soda is not good for us in any form. Second, there are scientific indications that fake sugars such as aspartame etc are triggering responses in our body that are not desirable. I believe weight gain or impaired weight loss is one, but I'm not a scientist so I don't want to make exaggerated claims. My…
  • Throw them at Bieber's house...this use of eggs actually burns calories.
  • I use CascaRun to track my running, but I also wear my Fitbit the whole time. I don't sync anything but Fitbit with MFP and let MFP decide my calories based on that data. The running app is just used first to read off my pace and distance through my headphones, and as well I use it to track the total distance on my running…
  • You are having a rough time, and I wish I had a solution for you. Unfortunately I don't. I do see some things I might point out though, first, you seem like you feel it is your responsibility to change or control your husband's behaviour. It isn't, he's an adult and needs to be treated like one. You don't get to take away…
  • Wow, I guess being female makes a big different. At 1600 calories on sedentary I'm losing over 2 lbs per week, and then I add back my exercise and eat most of my exercise calories most days. I'm feeling very restricted currently in my eating as I have a knee injury and actually have to restrict my eating to around 1600…
  • A calorie is a calorie, but a calorie isn't always a healthy calorie. I believe in order to be healthy we need a variety of the food groups of fat, protein and carbs. When you have over 40lbs to lose, then you are likely to get healthy amounts of these groups simply by eating that many calories, but from what I've found,…
  • You say you have lots of weight to lose, but I doubt that's true based on your picture. Consider the fact that many people on here have 70 or more lbs to lose. If you have more than 40 lbs to lose, you can almost eat anything you want as long as its within the calorie goals you have set on here, just make sure you log…
  • Bump this during North American daylight hours and you're likely to get a large number of answers quickly.
  • Run outside! Walking and running are ideal ways to lose weight and be healthy when combined with a healthy diet. Walking and running are easily trackable for logging on here as your cell phone will likely have free apps available to track your distance and speed etc. When you can't get outside due to weather, then think…
  • I don't have pictures to share, but I started at 286.6, had been 275-285 for at least 7 years and I'm down 41.6 lbs now. So far I'm feeling really good about this being sustainable as I don't find that I deny myself any foods I want...I still eat pizza and drink pepsi almost daily. My only challenge at this point is that I…
  • I am basing my first comment only on your photo....you have nothing to lose, stop trying to lose weight. My suggestion is to look carefully at your eating. Are you weighing and measuring every single bite you eat accurately. Beyond that, hormonal factors definitely affect things, take your monthly average rather than a…
  • Your BMR is the calories your body will burn if you do not move for the day, think about those as the calories your body uses in a coma with absolutely no movement. All movement adds to that. I'm guessing you have MFP set for a 2lb per week loss. This means MFP is calculating your likely movement as adding 702 calories…
  • If you have 72 lbs to lose there is no way you should be limited to 1200 calories per day at 2lbs per week. I have only 35 lbs to lose and at 2 lbs per week set on sedentary I have 1600 calories and change. Even if you are only 5 feet tall, your TDEE calculation must be way off, or your goal weight is so extremely low that…
  • I use it on my BlackBerry Z10 and it works great. Its a very basic Android app that only does one thing....you hit start when you start driving and stop when you stop. It logs driving on the fitbit site for that time, but it also cancels any steps that were logged from you hitting potholes or moving around in the car. The…
  • Use a running app on your phone and you can send each other the maps of the route you run...of course most places within 30 minutes of the Canadian border that have heavy border traffic are likely not safe for you to run alone outside lol. I'm thinking Detroit and suburbs here....pretty much the rest of the border has no…
  • I use a fitbit one, and what I do is set my MFP to automatically determine calories for a sedentary activity level. I then let it automatically add calories for any exercise based on my fitbit stats. On days when I do absolutely no exercise, MFP is right on, and on days when I run for an hour it adds about 500-600…
  • Lifting weights also requires you to eat. Time to start listening to your Dr and everyone else here, you do not have any weight to lose if you wish to be healthy!
  • That's not a bad schedule...Our office is short staffed, we work two days, two nights and four off, all 12s, but because of short staffing, I've been working two extra 8 hour nightshifts every set of days off for months, so its really 2 days, 4 nights 2 off.
  • Stop logging your exercise, or if its getting it directly from a fitness tracker, then unlink your accounts. You can look in the settings for MFP, but I think it only has a setting to not allow positive calories, not negative.
