  • ^^^ This! I eat Kashi Go Lean almost everyday, but with unsweetened almond milk. This cereal has 9 g protein per serving. There are several flavors to keep things interesting. I also like Mom's Best / Three Sisters oatmeal on cold mornings. It's less sweet than normal quick oats, which I like.
  • OMG! No one's mentioned Kukicha! It's Japanese toasted twig tea so it has a rich, smoky flavor. Hard to describe. My favorite fruity tea is Tazo's Wild Sweet Orange—makes really good iced tea! I have to get both these at Whole Foods though since my local grocery store doesn't have them.
  • You're in the wrong forum, this is food and nutrition. Go to exercise forum! :)
  • I switched from a juicer to a power blender* and started making green smoothies (dark leafy greens plus fruit) instead. This provides you with some of the fiber from the foods, which helps you feel fuller, etc. With this method I log the whole food. So if I use an apple, I log an apple. With apple juices, I don't know. I…
  • If your lifestyle setting is sedentary, heck yeah! There's even a built in entry "walking 3 mph, walking dog".
  • Quote: It's apple+q on the mac No it's not, that's "quit". You want apple-w, which is "close window".
  • I get sick of salads too, so I started doing green smoothies. 2 cups dark leafy greens (spinach, kale, chard, etc), 1 cup power fruits (blueberries, strawberries). I use frozen fruits to make it easier. The fruit has calories but it's nutritious, unlike salad dressing. Add enough water to keep it from being too thick…

  • We've only been to Queen Wilhelmina, and that because we've been backpacking in the area. They have a lodge but it's closing in just a few days until summer 2013 due to renovations. You can still camp and hike there though. If you do want to go in the fall you have to make reservations months ahead. They're _very_ busy…
  • I made mexican rice with brown basmati the other day and it's really good. I also eat Barilla Plus brand pasta. It's multi-grain but you can't really tell. Give it a try.
  • Great milestone! Are you following Eat to Live or McDougall, etc?
  • Use allrecipes.com to search recipes by ingredients. You could probably even use some of both to make veggie burgers.
  • That's a load of bull$#!+ … check out veganbodybuilding.org. I also read, "Unless you are needing immediate muscle glycogen replenishment for the next day of training (athletes), you don’t need that immediate post workout shake/meal." --http://www.theiflife.com/how-much-protein-per-day-build-muscle
  • You don't have to eat them all back, because… you never burn as much as you think. For example, I burn 90 calories/hour doing what I'm doing right now (sitting at my computer). Therefore, if my HRM says I burned 400 calories running for one hour then I actually burned only 310.
  • If you walk everywhere, then change your settings to lightly active, and see how that goes for a few weeks. I, like other responders, went from 1240 up to 1490 and started losing weight again. On the latter, that is good for sure! Most people forget they are burning calories even when not exercising. For example, I burn…
  • The best fats are unprocessed ones from foods such as nuts and seeds and avocado. "Nuts and seeds, not oil, have shown dramatic protection against heart disease. We need to get more of our fats from these wholesome foods and less from processed oils." -nutritarian.com Article on olive oil:…
  • I'm so sick of the 1g/lb of body weight myth. It's only for very low fat, already fit athletes! Please read http://www.theiflife.com/how-much-protein-per-day-build-muscle, which includes the following tidbit related to your question: "Unless you are needing immediate muscle glycogen replenishment for the next day of…
  • Yesterday I threw together a guacamole soup. It's a cross between guacamole and a green smoothie. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Almiel/view/guacamole-sopa-blender-recipe-174734
  • I just saw that there is a juice fasting group. You might want to join it if you're serious about it. You'll probably get the best help there. PS. You're kitty is super cute!
  • I'd be interested in the sweet potato blocks recipe! Sounds interesting. I love superfoods too. Accelerade is awesome! I did the MS150 a few years ago and forgot my water bottle in which I was going to mix Accelerade. I had a bladder for water. So I mixed the accelerade into my bladder, even though I hate doing that. I…
  • I noticed every group I looked at just started in November. Is this a new feature? If so, I'm sure it's a matter of time before people find and join groups. Plus, this group is kind of niche, one state featuring those who like the outdoors. :) Maybe you could expand it to be "and surrounding states" or something? JAT.
  • They don't have protein in a "pure" form but they contain the building blocks of protein, enzymes. Too much protein taxes the kidneys and sucks calcium from your bones. Vegetarians have less osteoporosis than meat eaters!
  • Hi, my hubby and I live in Dallas and we come up to the Ouachitas for backpacking. In fact, we were there over Thanksgiving. We actually did a trail in Oklahoma but it's only 30 miles or so from Mena, AR. We also went canoe camping on Lake Ouachita last spring. We've done about half the Ouachita National Trail and hope to…
  • I am done for this week today, I think you'll see why: Week of Nov 21: Mon: -- Tue: 20 (Low Impact Aerobics) 19 (Anaerobic Stair Climbing reps) Wed: -- Thu: -- Fri: 150 (Backpacking) Sat: 165 (Backpacking) Sun: 0 (resting!) Week Total: 354/180 Month Total: 913/720
  • I look forward to that! Actually, I have a couple of now baggy fitting jeans but I'm not sure if I'm small enough for the next size down. I have one in the next size down and they're tight, but I can put them on! Yay! I think by Christmas they'll be pretty good. I'll have to buy another for our trip to visit family.
  • Week of Nov 14: Mon: -- Tue: 30 (Sports Champions) Wed: -- Thu: 45 (LS 3-mile) Fri: 25 (Yoga) Sat: 25 (Sports Champions) Sun: 63 (Hiking) Week Total: 188/180 Month Total: 559/540 Yay! Thanks for inspiring me to get my minutes in!
  • There's another issue to consider. A light snack isn't a problem but if you eat too much you can start having acid reflux problems. Not fun, I can tell you from personal experience.
  • I didn't check in all of last week's so here goes: Week of Nov 7: Mon: 25 (10lb slimdown yoga) Tue: -- Wed: 15 (cleaning) Thu: 51 (Sports Champions game) Fri: -- Sat: -- Sun: 76 (Hiking) Total: 167/180 :-( Felt a little under the weather on Fri & Sat. Now to start on this week!
  • I agree, do what you can. As Chris Freytag (another DVD trainer) says, "Strive for progress, not perfection." If you have a heart rate monitor, use it to find your calories, then create your own exercise entry! That's what I've been doing. Oh, and there is an entry called aerobic, low impact. Use that if you don't have an…
  • Last time I went, I got vegetable fajitas. I only ate a little of the rice & beans as those have lots of calories. On the other hand, it doesn't hurt to splurge once in a while. It's feels good and doesn't affect your weight loss, as long as you don't fall off the wagon because of it. LOL.
  • If you like cauliflower and healthier versions of traditional recipes, try the 90 calorie alfredo sauce: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/198038-90-calorie-alfredo-sauce-d Because I'm vegetarian also, I added 2 tbsp ground flax and 1-2 tbsp nutritional yeast for nutrition. These add calories, but it still beats full…
