  • I'm 5' 6.5" at about 140 and the trainer at the gym said my body fat percentage is too high, about 32%, and I need to get down to 128 to get it to a more acceptable 26% for my age. I'm a size 6-8.
  • Count me in - lost 5+ plus pounds/month for the first 8 months or so, but at my current rate, it's going to take 6 months to drop the last 15. I'm all for slow and steady, but that's too slow. I recently added strength training to my routine ( 1 hour yoga class 3 days a week) and from reading this thread, I think I need to…
  • I never leave the house without tinted moisturizer with sunscreen, mostly because I'm too lazy too put those 3 on separately, and/or decide which ones I will/won't need on a given day. For work I also use some under-eye concealer, eye pencil and mascara and a little blush and tinted lip balm. I like to look awake and…
  • I agree with the previous poster, definitely test drive any breakfast routine change before the big day - the last thing you want is indigestion. Another option you might consider: low fat greek yogurt with fresh fruit and granola - includes protein, very filling, and in line with what you usually eat.
  • You look lovely - keep it up, and keep smiling!
  • I budget a later afternoon snack to keep from overeating at dinner time, and something sweet most days. If you like dark chocolate, Godiva Gems in the plain variety are only 23 calories each - I also like dove moments (42 cal ea).
  • Looks great! I can sympathize - I'd been avoiding using lovely hand-dyed yarns because of fear of the horizontal stripe effect. Can't wait to get back to knitting myself things in my new smaller size!
  • Love to knit, especially in cool weather, but I've been putting most of my yarn time into MFP, yoga and walking for the last 7 months and doing pretty well with slow but steady weight loss. Interweave Fall just came today, and I'm itching to dig into my stash - just have to find a balance to keep from getting sedentary.…
  • I agree, walking is great exercise. Another thing that helped me get started is yoga - the stretching, flexibility and strength I gained made it easier to get motivated and active. A good instructor will offer you modifications for the knee issues, even in a group class.
  • I'm 5' 6.5" and aiming for 130-5-ish, but mostly just want to get my BMI well out of the overweight zone, weight down to at least the mid-140s before I level off. I'm about a size 10 at 156, so that would put me at least at an 8, maybe 6? I'm not holding my breath for a specific size, I'm just grateful to be able to shop…
  • Thanks everybody! Good to hear - I think I will take sugar off my tracker since my non- fruit/veg/dairy sugar intake is pretty minimal. Nice to know that my fresh fruit and yogurt habit is OK, and I can afford to put a teaspoon of honey in my afternoon chai without guilt.
  • You are gaining muscle and losing fat - that's a good thing. Nobody sees the number on the scale but you. The inches lost are what the world sees -- and that's a LOT of inches in one month. I would kill for that kind of progress in one month - enjoy it!
  • Try to combine your interests by programming something diet-related. Maybe program a MyFitnessPal add-on like more sophisticated reporting on a category that interests you - I would love a quick way to track my nutritional categories over a whole week instead of just a day, say. Or try to reverse engineer a MyFitnessPal…

  • If you have a favorite brand and size to go by, eBay is a great place to pick up bargains on gently used, or steeply-discounted past season stuff.
  • I have been working with a 1200/day goal on MFP for a couple of months now - sedentary job and sluggish metabolism. What made the most difference for me was 1) more protein than I had been eating - full daily MFP recommendation so I feel full, especially at lunch time, and 2) an afternoon snack so I don't leave work hungry…
  • There is a fresh box of Cheez-Its snack mix in the pantry - that's a confession waiting to happen. Why? Because I am the only member of my household a) under 6 feet tall and b) with a BMI over 20.
  • You look younger than I am, so this may not be an issue for you, but I had trouble getting the scale to budge before I started doing some regular exercise. I'm not a big exercise person either, but I started doing yoga a couple of times a week, and it all got easier - the exercise isn't burning that many calories, but it…
  • And you thought you weren't losing! Glad to hear you have solid proof that all your exercise and dieting is paying off - way to go!!
  • Me too. I get lunch at work and have to log generic/approximations of the chicken and other toppings - with some practice on what the portions sizes look like at home, I got the hang of it after a few weeks, and while the counts will never be exact, I agree that it is definitely worth the effort to estimate as best you can.
  • When you lose the weight, you will not lose the memory of what it's like to feel judged for not being thin, and you will not lose the memory of friendships formed on the basis of character, not looks. As long as you don't try to deny that part of yourself, you will continue to be compassionate and accepting of other for…
  • Do they have sushi? Most of the chinese places around here do, do I go with something like an Alaska roll - lost of protein and flavor without the sauce, fryingand carbs - and maybe some wonton soup.
  • I'm still kind of a noob, but I've been doing Hatha/Vinyasa classes 3 days a week since New Years, and loving what it does for me. How many of you work out with yoga alone, and how many are combining it with other forms of cardio or strength training? I'm 52, not terribly athletic by nature, and trying to put together a…
  • Hi everybody! Glad to have found this group - just wanted to post here quickly to keep the thread in "My Topics" so I can find my way back here often. I'm 52, went through menopause 9 years ago and like a lot of you promptly started gaining weight. Five years ago, I decided to accept myself as a size 12 and stop obsessing…
  • I didn't stay as active as you have, but went through much the same thing and am just now making some headway with losing the ~40 pounds I gained over 5 years. Some things that helped me, besides regular exercise and recording my intake on MFP, were sleeping better (yoga for relaxation, and keeping an eye on my caffeine…
  • I went through the same thing when I started doing yoga 3 days a week. Once my metabolism picked up, I started losing a couple of pounds per week. If you are losing inches, you are making great progress.
  • Lot's of good advice here - I have a slightly different take. I'm also a long time stress eater, so I have designated "cheats" on hand that satisfy the cravings on bad days without totally blowing my calories for the day: a juicy tangerine or a small cookie or one Dove chocolate when I'm Jonesing for sweets, a few salted…
