  • Thanks everyone for your thoughts! iguanaliz - I have never been a runner - I tried running for a brief period but the knee pain was too much even with cortizone so I had to stop. I am going to go see a rhuematologist to see if there is something more going. I'm glad your mom had some success and I too am hoping this will…
  • It is definitely a commitment to fit working out into a busy schedule. I don't have kids so that is one reason I can make it to the gym so much. I do wake up early (between 4:30 - 5:30 depending on the day) and go to the gym for 1 1/2 to 2 hours then go to work from 9 - 6 and go back to the gym for another hour after work.…
  • I actually had to stop using an elliptical because it irritated my back (I have a bulged disk in my lower back). When I have tried to bring back the elliptical I can feel my back getting really tight so I can only stay on for about 15 min.
  • Don't mess with the back pain - and a good chiro should be able to help - if not go see a spine doctor and get an MRI - I tried treatment for 2 months before getting an MRI and found out I had a bulged disc in my back. Recorvery has been long but I am currently pain free.
  • I just found Ezekiel bread - found in the refrigerated section in some stores or at a health food store - only 80 cals a slice and all natural - good for clean eating - and very filling!
  • you don't have to buy as much shampoo because you take all your showers at the gym. you get angry when your gym schedule is interrupted and you're itching to go back the next day. you take more time to plan what workout clothes your going to wear. you become very bitter about any injuries that prevent you from going all…
  • I did! I have lost 107 lbs in just under 11 months - you have to stay dedicated with working out and eating right!!! But it can be done!
  • FYI - I was told not to do a lot of lower body strength exercises - so last week I took an aqua aerobics class at the gym in hopes that it would be something I could do - it gave me a good low body workout but it aggravated my back too - so I would be careful and ask your doctors about what to do if you get in a pool.
  • I was in your same situation. For the last two months I had been dealing with really bad low back pain and finally got an MRI - it showed a bulging disk. My trainer has delt with this and had me doing a certain exercise and my pain went away - but I still see a chiropractor and start physical therapy next week. It is a…
  • I weigh 203 lbs (started at 293). I eat an average of 1200 - 1300 calories a day. I do not eat exercise calories. I work out 6 days a week with at least 60 - 75 min of cardio per day and resistance training on alternating days. I have lost at least 2+ lbs a week consistently. The last 65 lbs I lost was in the last 5 1/2…
  • Hi Lanie, I have also been over weight since a little girl and finally found the motivation to loose it. I have had a lot of success, with a lot of dedication to exercising and changing the way I eat. I am here if you have any questions or need some extra support! I will add you as a friend, then you can feel free to look…
  • If you have a grill, you can't go wrong with grilled meat and veggies! or make kabobs. Bring some easy snacks: yogurt, light string cheese, pop corn, have some veggies and fruit cut up so its easy to grab....
  • I follow a diet that is based on carbs - for insulin resistance - and watch my calories - my trainer just put me on about 30g carbs for my first meal, first snack, and second meal - and no more than 15g carb for my last snack and meal. Just add me as a friend and you can view my food diary. oh and my last two meals are my…
  • bump - I always need new music ideas to listen too!
  • I'm in! Hey I'm the only one with a picture here!
  • I am super close to Gurnee (I actually live in kenosha and work in Lake forest)
  • Not exactly in chicago, i'm in lake forest ish area. It would be nice to meat others with the same goals!
  • Exercising all the time can cause one to get burned out , instead take a few days and just do some lite activity. I work out 2 hours a day 6 days a week - last week I just couldn't push as hard but I still went - and this week I've pushed harder and feel great! also, I go to the gym first thing in the morning, get it over…
  • No - my MFP goal is 1450 calories - 1 get 60 min of cardio 6 days of the week and 20 minutes strength about 4 days a week, I have never eaten anything extra, and i'm not hungry and I have consistently lost 2 lbs a week for the last 4 months... what works for some may not work for others...
  • I think everyone has a different opinion on them - my trainer and nutritionist said they were okay as long as you don't have a blood pressure issue (also get the recommended water throughout the day). I eat one every day (5 days) for lunch and have been losing consistently for the last 6 months - for me it is one meal that…
  • I love this topic - I have always wanted a tattoo and will be getting one at some point this summer - I was thinking of a vine type going around my ankle - but now this has made me think of getting something to represent all the long hours I have put in at the gym to loose this weight - keep the ideas coming!!
  • I take some after I work out. My nutritionist said it was okay to take because I do a lot of resistance - I found it does help me recover better after a long session in the gym. Not sure on the specifics though so i am interested to hear what others have to say.
  • Make exercise part of your routine... it has helped me a lot - I love going to the gym now. Like jdubya said - 30 lbs is a lot of weight - if you stop now, do you really want to redo the last 3 months? Take a day to relax then get back out there - the warmer weather always motivates me to get outside and get moving!
  • I'm also interested to hear what people say... I don't think there is such a thing as too much exercise (look at the biggest looser). You just need to make sure you are eating enough to fuel your body. I go to the gym for 1 1/2 hours in the morning and 30 min. on my lunch break and do a total of 90 min cardio and the rest…
  • I run around chasing infants and toddlers - but my trainer suggested to still put seditary so you always come out a little ahead - if you eat a little more than the calories suggested its ok because you know you do more activity than what MPF thinks - it has helped for me and was an almost 300 calorie difference for my…
