Fresh bread is never a waste of calories, you should wash your mouth out for suggesting such a thing ;) Maybe you feel better because you are gluten intolerant?

Depends on your weight/height among a few other factors. There is a tool on MFP for entering exercise and it will estimate calories for you as well as a wealth of tools you can google to do it.

For maximum weight loss your heart rate should be 100% of your maximum. Of course no one could do that so the answer is your heart rate should be at a level you can just maintain for the entire duration of your cardio workout. Personally I wouldn't concentrate on or worry about your heart rate and just do your workout to…

2lbs/week seems about right from the numbers you've posted (if not slightly higher than expected). Bit of maths for you: 3500cal = 1lb based on your size and weight you probably need around 2000cal/day to maintain before exercise 5 classes at ~500 cal a class = 2500cal/week deficit through diet =~500cal/day = 3500cal/week…

I would say people are taking a risk losing that much weight so quickly no matter how much supervision they are under. In general these shows should be taken with a pinch of salt (not literally of course, that'd just be unhealthy) and not be seen as realistic for a normal person. There is a reason we never have a 'where…

Didn't make my 80 miles last month, but confident I'll make 90 this month so that is my goal.

You'd be fine to make it to 40lbs lost by the end of May with a 5-600 calorie deficit a day and it is a healthy sustainable weight loss goal. The only thing to watch, which might be what yarwell was getting at, is that your TDEE will drop for the same activity levels as your weight drops (there is also the potential…

Back after many niggling injuries, so hopefully will finish this challenge without further problems. Going to go for a gentle 80 miles to get myself back into it.

If you're already running 10k you are pretty much prepared. It is a little different running outside rather than on a treadmill, and since you have a week I'd advise going for a 5k+ or two outside in the next few days to get used to it - the first time I transitioned from the treadmill to outside I found it quite…

No it can't beyond the weight you lose through the loss of fluids which you have to replace anyway. You sweat to counteract the increased temperature and this keeps your body 'neutral' for quite some time, if you do this for a long time (I'd guess over 3 hours) you may burn a few extra calories, but it really isn't healthy…

Of course I do, I felt you took a small part of a post you read and used that one part instead of the whole to lower the credibility of the overall post. Referencing only works if you take the overall meaning of the article you take the reference from (although I'd say tabloid referencing is akin to the way you referenced…

I was pretty careful in my wording as I knew it is the type of thing people will jump on if I'm not. I never said it was healthy to lose that much weight, just that it might not be that unhealthy. I also said to check with a doctor before trying anything that could be considered extreme (which I'm assuming the op would…

I'm going to disagree with some of the people here and say it is possible and maybe not even that unhealthy depending on your weight to start with (a 400lb person losing a little over 1% body weight a week would manage 20lbs in a month). I still wouldn't advise it though unless you have a great deal of weight to lose (1%…

Yes it's doable. I would say to do something like C25K to get started and then look up a beginner's half marathon training scheme (i.e. http://www.bupa.co.uk/running/training/training-programmes/beginner-half-marathon/ ). Don't start out too fast or you will injure yourself and you should get through to running your race…

That made me chuckle. Now back to my resting a**hole face.

I assume the programme you are following is C25K (couch to 5k)? While I've never followed it, I know a few people who've had success using it so it seems like a good starting point. From others comments I would say that, although it is an 8 week course, don't be disheartened if you find yourself falling off pace with it…
