  • This has been said here already, in different ways, but the common theme is planning. I also work in the city center, and irregular office/work/meeting hours usually means an unplanned, convienient quick lunch. Also adding to this is the prevailing social aspect of lunch at my office...the normal routine is to gather up 3…
  • Nike+ (sportsband and website) Tuna Almonds Water My trusty NordicTrack elliptical...it accepts no excuses for weather, time of day, darkness, etc... Actually, I hate that fu**ing thing. But it works. Greek yogurt.
  • Chocolate chip cookies...homemade ones.
  • Nuts are (or at least seem to be) high in calories, and have some fat content that seems to drive up your MFP fat numbers in a sneaky way, but... My theory on nuts is that no one ever got fat or unhealthy on nuts. Its the beer and soda washing them down that tends to get you. Drink water. I prefer unsalted roasted…
  • Hated it forever, especially at 100 pounds overweight. Used the elliptical to lose some, and build up awesome cardio. Started running, now I can't stop. I ran a bunch of 5K races, and now am running half marathons for my Saturday long run workout. This clearly falls in the category of, "If you would have told me 1 year…
  • Awesome job! Nothing like that feeling :) And, as far as your time goes... 1st one...just finish 2nd one...go faster All the rest...kick your own *kitten* (and a few others along the way)!
  • Any commercial involving a bacon cheeseburger...sure do miss those things.
  • Tuna and salmon are an easy way to fill in protien without the carbs or fat.
  • Around here, we call those zigzag days :) As long as those days are the exception to the rule, it will work out fine.
  • I was at a hotel (dropping my son off at college) and I was carrying a 20 year old military-style helmet bag from my active duty days. A stranger in the elevator saw the bag and said, "thanks for your service, no plans on being deployed soon, I hope?". I haven't been mistaken for an active duty service member in 17…
  • My tips for travel: a. Carry some snacks...unless you're a solo hiker, there's no telling when or where your next meal could be. This often leads to,"I'm starving, lets eat here". Carrying some nuts/fruits/etc can keep you from overloading once you sit down to that relaxing four-hour meal... b. Plan as much as one can.…
  • It's a workout DVD by trainer Jillian Michaels. She's quite the motivator; the DVD is a daily program (in three parts) of aerobic/strength/stretching exercises that take 25ish minutes a day to do. There are three programs, the idea being to do level one for 10 days, level 2 for the next 10 days, and level 3 for the final…
  • OK...I was trying say this (as well), and you did so for me perfectly. Thank you.
  • I just posted my experiece in a similar situation. The sensible (IMO) option is to try to eat them back and see what happens. No one ever gained all their weight back eating exercise calories...try it for two weeks. If nothing else, you'll most likely bust through a plateau and change up your eating enough to keep from…
  • Looks like a great time...looking forward to the one in VA in Oct. Congrats and thanks for sharing!
  • Peanut butter M&Ms...you are no longer my kryptonite.
  • I like this list a lot. My experience has been similar; with the following small variations: 1. Never did the diet pop thing, but drank plenty of regular before. Now, its all water all the time. 2. Great advice. 3. Great advice. 4. Great advice, but a hard one for me to do. I still struggle some days, but I can feel the…
  • Amen, brother.
  • Not much to add, I just love this thread. My (smallish) comment...when people see how much I've lost and how much I've changed, they inevitably assume I've done it overnight with some fad or chemical. They are all surprised (and somewhat disbelieving) when I tell them that I've been eating right and working out every day…
  • I get a lot of this in the form of "your goal weight/normal BMI is WHAT???? You will be too thin! Unhealthy! You'll look sick!" All of this from mostly morbidly obese people. When I am asked where I got my goal weight from, I always reply "from my Physician", then I get a chorus of "What do they know? That's crazy!!" I am…
  • I have a Nike+ Fitness Band. Its about $60 and has basic info: Total time spent running Pace per M (or K) Calories burned (I'm surprised how close these numbers are to MFP's) Distance ran (or walked) in M or K It needs a small pod attached or inserted into your shoe (the band comes with the pod). You may need to buy a…
  • My playlist in iTunes and on my iPod is called "30 Min Cardio": Son of a Preacher Man - Dusty Springfied (my warm up) *kitten* You - C. Lo Green (kinda jumpy and fun) Highway to Hell - AC/DC (getting down to business) For Those About to Rock - AC/DC (all business) Thunderstruck - AC/DC (all business) Its a Long Way to the…
  • I love the after-run picture. It tells so much to the people new to here and maybe new to exercize/fitness/running. To me, it says: "This smile, this sweat, and this me does not come quick, easy, or free." But....it is SO worth it. You look like a woman who feels awesome. I am fond of saying that all women are beautiful…
  • My favorite (old) eating habit while playing computer games all night... 1 bag of Snyder's white corn tortilla chips...2240 cal 3 bottles of Newcastle Brown ale...420 cal So...a typical Friday night was a 2660 calorie snack. Ouch.
  • IMO, many things contribute to feeling better, including looking better. Some things that make me feel good: working hard listening well being trusted accomplishing a goal learning something helping someone looking good All these (and many more) contribute to how I feel. So, if looking good is on your list...no need feel…
  • Prepare. 1. Prepare your meals before hand (stops unhealthy but quick meals when you are suddenly starving) 2. Prepare to exercise (give yourself enough sleep/food/time/space to do it every day you want to) 3. Prepare to be challegened (and sabatoged by your friends/family/spouse/life/kids/work/life) 4. Prepare to do…
  • I'd love to have some professional, clinical reason for working out early in the morning before breakfast/coffee/work...but the fact is, that's the only time of the day I have to myself. With a job, wife, kids, pets, house, dishes, laundry, dinner, homework, blackberry, and this (awesome) time-eating website...there's no…
  • Had a smiliar situation for us at Easter...we bought a fruit plate and I stuffed myself on watermelon and pineapple...to the tune of about 200 calories :) Kept me off the cheesecake bites and the brownies all afternnon. Good luck.

  • On beer... For me, the least-painful deviation from the calorie plan is a Corona Light or an Amstel Light. Both have some flavor and taste like beer enough to make it feel like the treat it is.
