I'm a registered dietitian and work in pediatrics. I generally do not teach my clients to calorie count. We talk about calories = measurement of energy, but avoid looking too much at the numbers. The risk of disordered eating and obsession over weight doesn't outweigh the benefits. What we do focus on is eating a variety…

This is helpful to hear. I've lost 32 pounds and can't see any difference either. That's why I changed my profile picture to the side-by-side comparison it is now, so I can *try* to remind myself I look different. I also changed jobs during this time, so people who knew me when I was fat(ter) have no idea that I've lost…

5'9" and 200-something here - I feel your pain! They roll down like crazy, and the low hanging crotch, ugh…. I once destroyed the skin on my knuckles with too-small pantyhose. I clutched the waistband in my fists and just yanked as hard as I could. It was like tiny, painful rug burn.

I take notice of people's sizes, but not to judge .... more like admiration. I wish I could not give a damn in a swimsuit, but I won't even wear a one-piece suit to the beach. I do judge the living hell out of people who are beet red by the end of the day.

aren't we all.

My mother is actually a seamstress, but because of this I know it isn't worth it for certain items ... for example, a suit jacket will have the front pockets and seams in the wrong place if you're going from a size 18 to a 12 or 14. But, I do have her fix some things, like shortening the shoulders on a shirt to get some…

This thread is cheaper than therapy. Sometimes, a little voice in the back of my head tells me not to bother losing weight because I have a very large wardrobe, thanks to a retail job in college. I shudder to think how much it'll cost to replace it all if I drop 5 or 6 sizes. (I try to remind myself that being fat costs…

Always looking for new friends! I started Jan 2 and have lost 25# so far, and I'd like to drop 80-100# total. I'm 26 and live in Delaware.

I'm in the same boat. I haven't been under 200 since college!

Looking for friends! I'm 26, with 80-100 total pounds to lose.

You sir, are a gentleman.

Is it bad that I'm a little impressed by this? I can barely finish a whole donut.

That is such a serious spreadsheet. While I find your dedication incredibly admirable, it's a bit much IMO. ... or doing just about anything else, really. Don't let this consume your days and forget to live. If this is really a lifestyle change, do you forsee yourself keeping up a spreadsheet like this forever? I don't…

If I'm not hungry, I just don't eat. If I want dessert, I eat that. At the end of the week, you can look at your nutrition trends, and if you're off on any one thing, you can try to work in foods high in that nutrient throughout the day.

-pictures (esp when you have to stand next to a skinny person) -excessively sweating -swimsuits (haven't bought a new one in six years) -chub rub -wedgies -high heels making my feet hurt after less than five minutes

Well, I didn't realize I did this until today, but I sleep in on the weekends and skip bfast on purpose … so my meals go something like lunch, snack, dinner, huge dessert. I love dessert.

Oh jeez no, I'd get so bored. I like Zumba … trying to figure out if I can budget some classes in. The DVDs, etc don't do anything for me.

I take 20mg Lexapro and have 0.5mg Xanax on hand for the really bad days (luckily I haven't had to use that in a while). In an unfortunate twist of irony, I take 60mg Vyvanse for ADHD, which has worsened my anxiety. You win some, you lose some I guess.

This thread is so inspiring. It's hard to have things like "heart disease and diabetes run in the family" motivate you to lose weight when you're young. But wearing heels all day, no chub rub, and not feeling like a space heater all the time! These are things I can get behind! Thank you everyone, and congrats!

I love this thread, and I keep coming back because it's so damn therapeutic. Because all of my last confessions were sad .... here are two happy ones. You know those single serve ice creams that Edy's/Dreyer's and Ben and Jerry's makes? That are like 1/2 a cup or 1 cup or something? I had HALF of one of those for dessert…
