  • http://www.al-anon.org/ A great resource to help friends and families of loved ones with drinking problems. Talk with them first.
  • If you are interested, check out my website: tinyhelmetsbigbikes.com. I ride every day with my two little ones on the bike (a 1 year old and a 3.5 year old). They love riding, it's safe, I get exercise, we all get fresh air, and we spend the whole time singing and looking for dogs/trucks/trains/birds/etc. There are many…
  • My bike is my form of transportation. It is great to get exercise while still being productive and just going where I need to go!

  • I have no idea what happened last week. I came to post here and noticed that everyone was a week ahead of me and I wasn't in the chart. Yikes! Still up and down the same 2 pounds but this week, I'm really buckling down with the logging. I have a new phone that can use the scanner so that is helping. Name: EKSB/ real name:…
  • Soy milk has more protein than almond-I wouldn't really say that one is "better" unless you have a problem with either. I get the unsweetened soy milk from Trader Joes. Beans and lentils are a good buy, especially bulk and dried.
  • Ugh! I was hoping that the higher weight was from my body recovering from our big biking trip but the scale still hasn't budged and it's been a week. Darn! • Thanks for all the suggestions! We had an awesome ride and ate fairly well (lots of pizza off the bike, though). I can't wait to try the homemade energy bars- yum! http://www.tinyhelmetsbigbikes.com/1/post/2012/04/days-14-16-186-miles-ouch.html
  • A 10+ year old helmet won't protect your brain. They usually expire in about 5 years of after a bump. It's an investment at first but little cost after, just tune ups, patches/tubes, etc. If you start biking as transportation, not just exercise, you'll see the savings add up, too.
  • Bike shops often have bike classes to teach basic repairs. REI has great classes if you are near one. It's a good idea to rent a bike first to get a feel for what you like and what you don't like in a bike. Don't go out too far until you know your limits. Happy riding!
  • http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/town/recreation/hybrid/700_wsd/# Trek is a great brand. Something like this would be much better quality.
  • #1--Stay far away from Walmart bikes! Go to a local bike shop that will LISTEN to your needs as a cyclist. Don't let them talk you into a bike that doesn't fit your needs. You can get a great intro bike for $300-$500 but you need to work with someone who knows what they're doing and can help fit you to your bike. You dont'…
  • Hmm.. I hadn't thought to start early. Great suggestions! Pedialyte is a great suggestion. Glad I checked with you guys. I have lists of everything we need to bring but spaced on the electrolyte replacements and energy storage. Thanks!
  • Maybe I need a feed bag? :)
  • I"m going to make Fridays my weigh in day. I will usually be able to post on Monday anyway but this weekend, we're leaving on a 180 mile bike trip! Yay! • Another great challenge. Going to get a glass of water, thank for the reminder :)
  • I noticed advice about settling on a bike just because it's cheaper. I really don't recommend this at all. If your bike doesn't fit you properly, you won't be able to ride it long distances and you'll begin to hate it. It will sit in the garage and never be used. You could even injure yourself terribly. You need to be able…
  • It gets better! Good shorts and a good seat, make sure your bike is fitted properly. The first rides are the worst! They sell chamois creams to keep everything comfy. I haven't tried it but I hear it works wonders.
  • What kind of riding do you want to do? Distance, utility/errands, exercise? Nashbar.com has some great prices. Not many bikes but when you need to get the extras like helmets, lights, parts, upgrades, etc. Lots of great advice here! Research the styles you want, go for test rides, maybe even rent bikes at first to find out…

  • Riding my bike! I love it so much and hate driving so I am now taking my bike everywhere and driving way less! Great for my health, my wallet, and the environment. I get about an hour's worth of riding just doing errands every day and I have my two little ones with me. (if anyone is interested: www.tinyhelmetsbigbikes.com)
  • Yes! That's about what I did and now I'm smaller than I was in high school! I didn't lose anything with my first and so when I got pregnant with my second, I was still 15 lbs heavier. Now, my first baby weight is gone, my second baby weight is gone and my chunky teen weight is (almost) gone. I ate about 1800-2200 calories…

  • Plank poses and twists would be good. Look up exercises for the transverse abdominals and skip anything that has you curling up in crunch/sit-up form (they actually worsen the split). If yours is severe, physical therapy might be called for. It takes time and is slow but can be done. I think surgery would only really be…
  • I had it after my babies and worked on my transverse core muscles, not crunches which target the recti abdominus muscles (the ones that are separated). The transverse muscles are the ones that hold your stomach in like a girdle. If you are sitting up and pull your belly button in towards your spine and hold, that will…
  • My goal was 300 but I only got to 268. It's wet outside so I don't think I'm up for a final push to get up there. Next month, I've got some bike tours planned so that will help me. I challenge myself to 400. BTW, did anyone sign up for 30 days of biking--http://30daysofbiking.com/? Elle www.tinyhelmetsbigbikes.com
  • My positive is that I ended the month with 268 miles on my bike (since March 1st). We saved $160 in car expenses by just taking our bike on errands and adventures instead of driving. It was great exercise and tons of fun! Hoping get to 400 next month  www.tinyhelmetsbigbikes.com
  • Nursing exclusively gives you about 500 extra calories. You can search breastfeeding exclusively in the food database and it will give you negative calories. Eat them! Also, some women lose weight breastfeeding, others don't. It may be disappointing but your first responsibility goes to making sure your baby has the proper…
  • 204/300 so far and looking like a week of rain. Hoping to get 2 longer rides on Thurs and Fri so I MIGHT makes it! Can I count the children I carry as extra miles?
