  • I love kale chips.....to make your own, tear up some kale, toss in olive oil and a little salt, bake at about 350 until crisp, usually less than 10 minutes (watch closely!), or buy them at the store, usually in the health food aisle. They barely make it off the cookie sheet in my house!
  • No running today. It is strange to have so much extra time these last few mornings. It has been 2-3 years since I took a whole week off running--I'm good though! I've managed to keep my eating in check and have been doing more yoga, ab/arm work and leg work that doesn't bother my hip. I'll be glad to get back out there,…
  • Week 10--great job! Sounds like you'll be ready!
  • That is so awesome! Congratulations!
  • Becky--Congrats on the complement--that's enough to keep you running! Good for you going to the doctor BEFORE your injury was serious. Thanks for sharing the info. I wonder if we could just run backwards to help the hamstrings? Hmmmm..... I know, I know, I need to cross train! No run today, just more brush…
  • I ALWAYS pull the same muscle in my hip... do you cross train at all? This could really help. Now that I've been cycling I think its helped, I did re-injure it a little bit but I think that the biking will really make a difference to strengthen the opposing muscle groups. Good luck, don't get down  ~Leash …
  • Well, I give up. No running for me for a few days. I have been having some hip pain since last week. I took the weekend off and felt better on Monday morning so I ran--not a good idea! Anyway, I just keep reminding myself this is a lifestyle and it is okay if I take a few days off so that I don't end up taking a few months…
  • If I woke up here,TX, in the middle of August and it was 55 degrees--I swear I could run a marathon! Lucky you! Have to ask, I keep seeing reference to DH on this site, I figured out it is the hubby, but what does it stand for?
  • Well, I am taking a couple days off due to some hip pain. I haven't determined if it is from working or running. It better be from working! Then maybe I can take a few days off from that instead! Yoga this morning--will try a run tomorrow-hopefully! Becky, sorry about your sciatica (sp?). I had trouble with that once while…
  • I used to have this same problem! I would run the hills once a week (great for endurance), and I would definitely make the effort to go to the track once also--great for intervals/speedwork. I try to go at least once a week because it is so flat and I can gauge my speed better. I don't know how many workouts a week you…
  • Good morning! Got in a fast (for me) 4 miles this morning. I actually ran the 2 middle miles at a 9 minute mile pace. I love running at the track! Between the new surface and my new shoes, it is downright springy! Julie--glad your new shoes are working out. Mine usually last a good 4 months depending on the surface I run…
  • I'm jealous! I am saving up for one--hopefully this fall. I'm sure you mentioned it previously on a post, but I am not caught up on the last couple of weeks, so I'll ask--how are your Asics working out for you? Jodi
  • Good afternoon to all! I haven't been on in a couple of weeks due to working at summer camp, painting my mother-in-law's house and somehow trying to fit in a run here and there. Let's just say, my normal schedule has been out the window! I am still trying to re-adjust back into my old schedule, so I missed my run this…
  • You've got a good plan--best of luck!
  • Sounds like you probably have good socks then. Good luck finding some good shoes--I talked to a guy recently that swore by Brooks. So, there are 3 more brands for you to try--Asics, NB, and Brooks. I always like to look around at races and see what the majority is wearing. At my race last weekend, there was definitely an…
  • You might check your socks, too. They may be part of the blister issue?
  • Got in a good 8 miles today. I left early and took a weak gatorade mixer in my water bottle and things went really well. Much better than my previous 9 mile attempt 2 weeks ago! I normally do my long runs on Saturdays, but my daughter has a b-ball tourney all day on Sat. and I hate to miss her games! It is always good for…
  • Great job on that speedwork! Whew! My favorite shoes are Asics-just got a new pair of 2140's. I have also had good luck with New Balance which are my husbands preference.
  • Wishing you a speedy recovery!
  • YES! As a matter of fact, I don't even weigh myself the week before or the week of--it just depresses me and makes me want to eat!:ohwell:
  • You can try the Luke's Locker website, too. There should be plenty to choose from in that area in October! Good luck in your training! Jodi
  • Ew! I can hardly stand when something comes up over my belly button. These shorts aren't like that.. The tag doesn't really have any helpful info. I bought them at a running store about 2 years ago with a matching top (my only real matching outfit to this day). Sorry, I am sure this isn't much help at all!
  • 5 miles for me this morning. It seems the humidity around here is getting better, so the mornings really aren't too bad if I get out early. I finally ordered a new pair of shoes over the weekend--can't wait 'til they get here--haven't had new ones since December! I definitely DON'T recommend waiting this long to anyone--I…
  • Excellent choice to sign up for that 5k--there is nothing more motivating for me than to have a race coming up! Have fun with that training! Jodi
  • Thanks! My 8yo boy says he wants to run with me, but gets a side "stitch" about 100 steps in every time! Hopefully he will grow out of that. My daughter is very competitive and she is actually really fast on short distances--as long as she is interested I intend to help her out. I have a feeling if she starts winning…
  • Thanks! I mostly love that I can be an influence for fitness for my kids and hopefully they will love it from an early age and stick with it!
  • No, don't do it--don't clean house--you're ALONE in your house, relax and enjoy the quiet!
  • Had a great, very hilly, very hot 10k race this morning! I broke out of my 10-min mile routine and ran 9.37/min. miles to finish in 59.43. My best time ever! Woo-hoo! My 11yo daughter ran her first race, a 1 miler in 7.21. I'm so proud of her! I just know she is going to smoke me in a 5k any day now..... Happy weekend to…
