  • Just remember one important thing..."SCALES LIE!" I've hit a plateau before and the scales said I was 160lb. My waist size dropped 2" but the scales were STILL saying 160lb. If you're replacing fat with muscle (I was) the scales can't tell the difference so never use just scales as your only source of information! My…
  • Welcome aboard! Thanks to this website and the community on it I lost all the weight I wanted to and I've been in maintenance mode now for several months. Add me as a friend if you need some motivation :drinker:
  • Why can't you edit posts? Grrrrr! Sunday 23rd Jan - 22k Monday 24th Jan - 21k Tuesday 25th Jan - 24k Total So far: 67k Thanks for the concern Ray. I regularly run 50 to 60k a week so this is something I've been building towards for a while (a personal goal). I must admit my legs are letting me know tonight which is…
  • I found the Elliptical to be the easiest on my joints when I first started. Yes it feels hard and even now the first 10 minutes make my legs ache but once past that I can stay on for hours. You could also try the treadmill on a slow speed but with a good incline.
  • I'm upping my calorie intake quite a bit (1,700 extra calories to eat today :noway: ) but it includes more chicken, raw cashew nuts and bananas to help slowly release the energy
  • I used to be the in same boat. I then bought some scales which also showed my Body fat %, water %, BMI etc. I also got a measure for my waist. Every single time my weight loss halted all the other stats were still in decline so I never worried too much...
  • Sum peoples speling isnt very good ya know
  • People who are anorexic are in muscle burning mode, not fat burning mode which is why they look so ill. Never trust scales, they lie! Mine said I hadn't budged any weight and yet the tape measure showed I had lot 2" from my waist. If you're putting on muscle then your weight won't change ;-)
  • I weigh myself everyday as well but I understand and accept there will be constant fluctuations. I have a mental upper limit (140lb) and as long as I remain under than I'm happy. I tend to go up and down like a yo-yo between 134 and 137 but I don't start worrying until I hit 139; that's when I know I need to check what I'm…
  • The hardest part of maintenance is keeping the motivation going. If I gain a couple (Like over Christmas) I look at old photos of me and look at myself in the mirror saying "Do I really want to go back to THAT?!?". It sure motivates me
  • I had just 1 in the year I was losing weight and it lasted a month. The thing was although the weight was static my waistline was still shrinking o.O I was changing exercises frequently and I believe I spent that month building more muscle which was negating the weight loss. If you can afford it invest in a good scale…
  • I get annoyed by people who get annoyed about people who say they can't eat 1,200 calories  The truth of the matter is we are NOT all the same. If you fully embrace healthy eating then it CAN be very difficult to eat 1,200 a day. I have eaten meals before that left me stuffed the rest of the day but had a calorie…
  • It really is all about going for this as a lifestyle change. I learnt so much about food, alternative foods, calories in food etc that once I hit my goal I really did have the knowledge in place to keep it going. I had failed at every fad diet I had ever done. Yes I'd lost the weight but I soon put it back on because I…
  • There is only one bad thing about losing all my weight....just one! I've lost a lot of fat from my butt so sitting on anything other than something well cushioned gets uncomfortable very quickly. I have to have a pillow on my car seat now for my drives home and sitting on wooden chairs gets uncomfortably after 10 minutes…
  • I'm not telling anyone where I'm from and you'll never, ever guess it so
  • I agree that a lot of it is psychological. I also find that after a certain amount of time (which is usually 40-45 mins for me) I hit a different zone when my heart rate slows, breathing slows, legs stop aching and once I get to there I feel like I can run forever. I really find the last 5 to 10k easier than the first…
  • Want the good news? I felt exactly like that when I hit my goal in May and 4 months later I STILL feel exactly like that! I have never felt so alive or so content with life. The last 4 weeks at work have been the most stressful in my 12 years building websites and yet I was still smiling all day and enjoying the life…
  • I had two goal weights but mostly it was a waist inch goal which I've also hit. It is mostly mind over matter with these things and if you have the right frame of mind anything is possible. Once I hit my first goal I was immediately excited to hit the next so I pushed myself even harder. Once I hit my goal 140lb and my…
  • As someone who has successfully lost 50lb this year all I can say is it *CAN* be done and this site plus the community behind it got me to my goal weight! Feel free to add me as a friend for support
  • If you have fat around your stomach it own't matter how many you do. In that case the best exercise is cardio.
  • I share your problem. In my entire life I have never wanted to eat anything before 11am but I do try to eat something a couple of hours after waking up because it's the best I can do. So normally as I start work at 9am I have some muesli or a yogurt which keeps me going until lunchtime.
  • I lost 47lb of mine in 6 months but it was a constant battle to stop the plateau. I had to yo-yo my calories and exercise all the time so my body never got used to a set intake or routine. I was also going to the gym every single day and was aiming for 700 to1,000 calorie burn each time so it was real hard work (but…
  • I've never been a big eater either. Back then I would have the same size meal as I do now but back then it was 1,500+ calorie junk food meal compared to the average 300 calorie meal I have now. Exact same size, just a whole lot healthier. The only other difference is I used to then snack on a whole packet of biscuits or…
  • Yup it must be muscle loss and not fat loss. It is amazing how quickly you start losing it :ohwell: After this week I'll hopefully be able to start up again so let's hope I can stop the loss
  • My gym was closed for 3 weeks so I couldn't do anything and the first time back last week I was in the 180's and it's taken me a week to bring it back down to previous levels. It really doesn't take long for our bodies to get used to doing nothing which is why regular exercise is so important.
  • That is an amazing achievement and you're doing really well!
  • On the second video was a salad.. a salad with 1,450 calories and 102g of fat...that's insane! :noway:
  • For many people a lot of the initial loss is water weight. I too lost a lot of weight initially but it just got slower and slower and slower as my body fought even harder to keep it on. Next time you go shopping you look at what 9lb of sugar or flour looks like. You LOST that amount !so while the numbers sound small when…
  • The thing I love about your post and others on this topic is that you've set a realistic goal. In December last year I was 47lb heavier than I am now and it did take me around 5/6 months to lose it all. This website and the community on it were key to my downward weight loss. I had my diary private for most of that because…
  • The thing that works for me is to have 6 smaller meals a day with bigger lunches than dinners. This tends to reduce all cravings during the day and evening.
