  • Hi AK, I had spinal fusion surgery in 2003. It was a long recovery but pretty successful. I was able to get back to normal in about 6 months. Walking was great for me during recovery. Are you watching your calories? What’s your goals?
  • Did not do my lifting yesterday so I met all my goals but that one. Unfortunately, last night I dropped a dumb laptop on my foot and while the x-ray shows it is not broken, I have a big bruise that makes walking very painful. Doctor says it should start to feel better in about a week. Until then, no exercise calories for…
  • On track so far today--I've gone for my run and done my shoulder exercises. Calories so far so good. Just need to get my lifting in...
  • Hi Kelly! Wow, 130 pounds off, that’s incredible! I do find weight loss more about the food than the exercise but exercise helps me feel better. What’s your plan today? I’m on day 3 of tracking food. I’ve stayed under my calories both days, but used most of my exercise calories. Unfortunately, I am realizing why I was…
  • Hi Ema! I saw you on another thread and wanted to give you a shout-out for that amazing drop in A1c over the past few months. That's great news and shows that the changes you are making are doing what they need to. As you know T2 diabetes doesn't take holidays so keep it up. It's not what the test shows, it's what your…
  • How timely! I am looking for accountability partners as well. I am at the maintenance phase, well, I've started to regain so I need some accountability. Nathan--what kind of job? what's your plan? Ema--I applaud your efforts to get control of things with T2 diabetes. 12 pounds in a month is incredible so don't sell…
  • First, try another activity like going for a walk, playing an instrument, listening to music, or calling a friend. If that doesn't work and you are actually hungry, try some fruit, veggies, nuts, or a whole grain snack. If that doesn't work, try a piece of dark chocolate, letting it melt in your mouth. If that doesn't…
  • I usually have a glass of 1% millk with a tiny squirt of chocolate syrup before bed. It helps me a lot.
  • I am trying to eat a low saturated fat, no trans fat, low added sugar, low sodium diet. I believe those are some of the tenants of the low-inflammation diet as well, though I'm not sure. My diary is open, though the past few days were a little rough due to Easter candy and richer than normal foods. I'm back on track today,…
  • My understanding is that limiting saturated fat and trans fat plus cardio exercise is your best bet. That's been my approach.
  • Um, is this a trick question? Yes, if you want to weigh 6 pounds more than you do right now, you will need to eat more food. By the way, congrats on the huge loss! Way to go!
  • Agree with everyone else! A pound a week is fantastic. Sounds like you have the right calorie target for sure.
  • I have begun eating a Dove dark chocolate promise square when I crave chocolate. I don't bite it, just place it in my mouth and let it melt over a few minutes. It helps me reduce my candy cravings so much and only has 43 calories or so.
  • Of course! This happens to everyone. What I like to remember is how many calories is actually in a pound (3500) and realize the most I gained was a couple of ounces!

  • That's awesome!
  • Wow, thanks, everyone! :D
  • The desktop app and iPhone app are different. Where I can see the net calories under weekly goal is in my iPhone app under "Nutrition" and touching the "Weekly" button at the bottom. It shows me "1,851 calories under weekly goal."
  • I have my period now, too. What I like about my period is I shed a pound or two of water weight! It's ok to have a day here and there where you go over. The important thing is the trend over time to eat less than you burn. Be kind to yourself. Try some protein, bulk salad, or water to fill up your tummy--but if that…
  • Thank you all for the support. I'm not really trying to lose weight so much as I am trying to fine-tune my diet. I had gotten into some bad habits after I started a new and stressful job last August. My stats are: 5'3" and small-boned CW: 111 GW: 110 (BMI 19.5) MFP is giving me 1360 calories a day right now, and I don't…

  • I spent the week trying to increase protein and I went over my calories a few days. It's Sunday night and I am so hungry, even after hitting my protein and going over my fat goals. I drank some water and am done eating for the day, but this is challenging. I've been losing weight, and I am only 1-2 pounds from my goal, so…

  • Trader Joes Champagne Pear Vinegar dressing right now.
  • By the way, your diary is not public, so I couldn't look at your choices.
  • You can check my diary out. I have been doing pretty well recently. This is a journey, not a destination. Can you make a small goal for yourself, like eat 7 servings of fruit or vegetables a day? Or eat 20% of your calorie goal by 1 PM to help you?
  • I'm another that found I had to give up the dream of working out in the mornings. I always considered myself a morning person and watched my father get up and swim 1 mile each weekday for my entire childhood. I assumed I could do this, too. BUT, I found I could not. Since I have switched to working out after work, I find…
  • I haven't waved anything away! I boiled some eggs and will try that. I bought some chicken today and some green leafy veggies. I agree I need to up the protein--just trying to figure out how!! And the dietary guidelines are confusing, IMO. I eat very few processed foods and added sugar already. I made a huge pot of channa…

  • Everything is so confusing. Gah!! Thanks. I think I'll up the calories by 100 right after I hit my goal weight. Two more pounds to go!

  • Just had some water, thanks for the reminder.

  • I don't believe dietary cholesterol is associated with blood cholesterol. My understanding is that limiting saturated fat is a better goal to lower cholesterol. The idea of eating plain boiled chicken does not appeal to me. And I'm actually hungry, not just stomach making noises. I eat plenty of nuts and fats. Just can't…

  • I'm letting sugar from fruits go higher. I focus on added sugar. Also increasing veggies. If you eat any dairy, your sugar will be high, too, due to lactose.
