  • You probably want to read the recomp part of the ketogains FAQ: http://www.reddit.com/r/ketogains/wiki/index#wiki_what_is_a_.22recomp.22_and_how_to_do_it_.28also_known_as_calorie_cycling.29 I don't eat back calories, in fact I don't log the exercise calories, I just cycle between low calories on days I don't lift and high…
  • Too many grams of carbs, bring it down to 25g net. Depending on the person anywhere from 25 - 50 *can* work, but until you're adapted you want to stick with 25 or less and only after full adaptation experiment with increases if you really want to find your limits. Those 25g should be coming almost exclusively from trace…
  • I'll try again, but often American things don't filter correctly (or at all) to Japan... The A&W restaurants here have never heard of diet root beer, for example.
  • Ah, I see. Well, next time if you decide to do it again, focus in on recipes and learning to cook as well or better than restaurants do. Today I dipped bacon slices into egg and breaded them with crushed pork rinds and then baked them... Totally blew away any restaurant meal I could have had. It was both fun and delicious!…
  • If you decide to do it again, you're allowed to eat at restaurants, the steak there is still steak. :-)
  • I'm so jealous! I've tried asking three different Starbucks here after you mentioned it before and none seem able to grasp the idea. :-/
  • In your profile it says: I think that's probably a wise policy.
  • No offense, but I'm not impressed by credentials, for CPT or otherwise. I have a master's degree in my field (an allied health field), along with years of internships, a passing score on a Praxis examination, and a year of mentored and supervised practice before I obtained my state and national licensure (not to mention…
  • It's tough here when I'm off base, which is most of the time (I live off base and work mostly off base). Even the American restaurants have a Japanese spin on things, so I can't trust the nutrition info generally. That said, if I were not to track I could do any Yakiniku place, and I am so deeply tempted but I would have…
  • Yup, no worries. For the weightlifting and exercise, in the first couple weeks it added a couple lbs on me, then started dropping again.
  • I drink diet soda and it doesn't impact me.
  • Somewhat the same, except now I can function with far less sleep. Also, I tried C25K a while back and I felt like I was going to die. This time it doesn't seem all that tough, but that's probably also because I'm around 25 lbs lighter now than the last time. Though it's more that my lungs don't feel like they're about to…
  • I was really hesitant to start working out, primarily because of going to a gym. I found a place I can do it privately and that's made the difference for me. Granted, what I have to work with isn't optimal, but eventually I'll end up in a real gym with barbells instead of only machines. We all work with what we have. I…

  • Since you haven't received a reply I'll go ahead. Talk to your doctors!! Pancreatitis is potentially fatal and in no way should an internet message board be used to tailor a diet which specifically uses macronutrient levels known to be contraindicated in patients with impaired pancreal exocrinic function. If I had…
  • Read the entire FAQ at: http://www.reddit.com/r/ketogains/wiki/index Others more knowledgeable than myself on exercise will probably have more to say. Though I've been dieting a while now I'm only a few weeks into exercising so listen to others above me on that.
  • Smart plan! Giving anything adequate time to find out whether it's useful is one of the things that really helped me.
  • For every lb or every lb of LBM? There's a big difference, and if you're doing it for every lb then, depending on your BF%, you might well be going way over your needs and falling out of ketosis.

  • First, percentages are useless for the most part. Think in gram amounts (better yet, the calories those grams translate to). My numbers are: Fat: 110g Protein: 111g Carb: 23g That translates to the useless (for you) percentages of 65/29/6 but it makes no difference what the percentages are because my weight and body…

  • You can have more protein if you want. Lately I've read a lot of articles and the final takeaway I found is that it's not a specific number that kicks one out of ketosis, it's a ratio (some people talk about 120-140g but that seems to be an estimate based on the math and is not accurate for the individual case).…
  • More fat calories, not grams, than protein calories.
  • Keto is not meant to be a low protein diet. Too low of protein and you risk muscle wastage. That's not the kind of scale loss you want to see.

  • Was that the minimum protein it suggested? What's your lean body mass?
  • Trust me, you'll find recipes which will have people dying to eat what you eat! It's actually a decadent diet in terms of pleasurable food to eat. It looks like you have a nice fridge full of food, though.
  • Not at all. Ketosis isn't about eating a specific thing or drinking a specific thing, it's about eating x number of carbs, y number of protein, and the rest of the calories in fats. In no way do you need to drink dairy products and feel sick in order to successfully get into ketosis. Throw off the shackles of thinking of…
  • Yes, me coming over for dinner! ;-)
  • First, keto isn't like a lot of diets where you can cheat and go right back on track. If you cheat your body will (generally) need time to get back into the ketosis state. Second, be prepared to feel crappy for a while. Third, keto is not magic and there will be stalls, temptations and everything else which just naturally…
  • Jello mixed with cream cheese... The cream cheese kind of separated and is resting on top of the jello in it's gelatinous state.
  • How would BPC still be fasting? It has fat in it just as if it were solid food. Mine is about 220 calories. As I understand it fasting is not taking in calories, otherwise one could just blend up a bunch of food into liquid and consider it fasting.
  • Thanks, I have the meter but I'm waiting on test strips. Unfortunately things can sometimes take a long time to get to my APO box over here, and apparently ketone test strips are one of those things. I'm virtually positive I wasn't out of ketosis on mid to upper 130s since I was still popping awake after 6-7 hours of sleep…
  • Much appreciated, I'll work through those!
