  • I don't have any idea about how much faster you can get given your age, experience, and so on... but here is my experience! I joined a running club in March. That was the best decision I have ever made! It is now August and I feel that, through hard work and passion, I've been improving a lot! But there are a few things…
  • Ran 141.5 miles, lost one toe nail.
  • I'm so jealous of you guys! If I had fettuccine Alfredo the night before a race, I'd eat the port-a-pottie after 0.1 miles
  • Absolutely! Ans especially in this hot weather, you need the extra salt!
  • Can I ask you why you put butter in your coffee? It's the first time I hear such a thing and I am curious!
  • Sushi. Always! I had it once the night before a long run and the morning after I was flying! From that day on, I decided that sushi had to be my pre-race/pre-long runs dinner. I believe it has the perfect carbs-proteins ratio and it is very easy to digest. That said, you shouldn't have a sushi feast the night before a…
  • Agreed

  • I swear, if I really manage to finish in 3:59, the first thing I'll to is bending on my knees and kiss the ground!
  • Glad to say that I "got it all!" Oh, and I don't run more than 4 days per week! Note: I always do at least one easy run and one long run each week and it took me some time to "deal with them." What do I mean? In the beginning, I was obsessed with my time! I knew that easy runs where supposed to be, well, easy but I…
  • 3:59:59 is my goal time for the Marathon <3 If I get there by 3:59:50, I'll slow down-I promise! LOL
  • Height: 5'3" Weight: 119 BMR: 1249 TDEE: this confuses me! Intake: 1320 (eating back some/all calories fom exrecise) Macros: 60% carbs / 25% fat / 15% protein I have a hard time eating enough proteins... Fat is 25% because I eat a lot of avocado, salmon and other good fatty foods ;)
  • I run with an Amphipod water bottle. It's 12oz only but I do my long runs in Central Park so I can refill it as I go. I cannot hold in my hand anything heavier than that. I wanted to try a fuel belt but belts usually end up around my waist rather than staying on my hips, so I'm afraid it's going to feel unconfortable.…
  • Just to update you, I kept the same effort on the hills (thoughest hills were between mile 2 and mile 3.5) but ended up with a FASTER pace- go figure! I now can run hills easily enough BUT I found out that your legs will feel tired not doing but afterwards! Last mile I [unfortunately] had to slow my pace by 20" because my…
  • I heard it's a great race!
  • Trying to run NY by raising for a charity. It would be my first marathon-I kind of promised to myself that NY had to be my first
  • I'd love to go but I'm volunteering for the Corporate Challenge in Central Park later this afternoon and the only show time here in NYC seems to be 7PM... bummer! I LOVED the first one and I'll probably love this one even more because it takes place in Rome, where I was born and raised ;)
  • I'd leave it as it is: HALF MARATHON! Who cares if non-runners won't understand! If you call it a 21K people will get even more confused IMO...
  • Not an expert but I guess one of the purposes of long runs is to get your body used to run a certain amount of miles continuosly (i.e. 12/13 miles for a half-marathon and so on). On race day, you won't have the option to split your run in two so I don't see the benefit of doing so during your long runs.
  • 13.1
  • I believe it changes from person to person. Some people run 6 days per week, some take a break every 8 days, I even met a girl who finished her marathon in 3:20 hrs running just 3 days per week and cross-training for the rest of the week. Personally, I run no more than 5 days per week- I alternate easy runs with speed…
  • I'm deeply in love with the Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwich- not because of the skinny part but because I really really like it! Is it good for you? Not really. Do I eat it every day? Nope- 3 times per week AT MOST. Do I eat more than one in one sit? One is more than enough for me. Moderation is the key and that's why I'm on…
  • Huge congrats to you! I ran my first half marathon two weeks ago- I was really aiming for a sub 2hrs but ended up finishing in 2:02:23... oh well, still good! Anyway, just like you, I have my second half marathon coming up at the end of October and I also have a few 10Ks scheduled until then. What happened with my first…
  • Do you just drink water during your long runs? If so, I believe you won't need to bring a belt with you since there should be plenty along the route. If you do however drink Gatorade or another sport drink, I'd call the race organizers and see what kind of sport drinks will be available. If it is something that you never…
  • First of all, I'm really sorry for your loss. And I do agree with others here: SIGN UP FOR A RACE! How do you know you're gonna let yourself down again if you don't even try? Come on! Sign up for a 5K, download a training plan and follow it! Remember: Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never…

  • I used Map My Run before buying my Garmin- found out Map My Run was pretty inaccurate.
  • You need at lest one rest day per week and by rest day I mean resting from everything, not cross-training. I usually take two to three rest days per week but my runs are 4 to 7 miles each and my weekly long run is usually between 8 and 10 miles (litle more now because I'm training for a half). So if you run 2-3 miles each…
  • Thank you for the suggestions! And yes, I have to learn to skip the coffee... I heard that caffeine and warm beverage in general are very likely to cause GI problems if taken before a run!
  • Yes, that happens to me as well (especially when I push on Hills) but I heard it's very common! I was concerned about what happened to me on Sunday because in that case I know 100% that I wasn't pushing too much...
