  • Usually after I work out, I have a smoothie with vegan protein powder, almond milk, frozen banana, Protein Plus Peanut Flour, and a touch of unsweetened cocoa. So good!
  • Anyone??
  • Sorry about that. I'm a 4'11" female, current weight is 134.5 lbs, goal weight is 125 lbs. I have lost about 9 lbs total so far.
  • Agree with this helpful suggestion. When I do a good heavy cleaning, it takes me about 2 hours and I work up a sweat - I also live in Phoenix, so I work up a sweat easily this time of year! I've been wearing my heart rate monitor while I clean lately. I think last time I cleaned (which included moving furniture, vacuuming,…
  • Interesting sounding menu. What's with the mayo on almost everything? Of the choices, I'd suggest: -Turkey and avocado - no cheese, hold mayo -Portobello Caprese - hold mayo -Tex salad - no onion straws, dressing on the side For the sandwiches, try asking if they have a whole wheat or whole grain bread - the extra fiber…
  • Dark leafy greens are among the highest with protein (kale, collard greens, chard, and spinach). Corn, broccoli, and artichokes are also good sources. Here's a list for your reference: http://www.md-health.com/Vegetables-With-Protein.html
  • Look for Greek recipes online, they use lemons like crazy! Lemon chicken and lemon potatoes are among my favorites at Greek restaurants. There is also a lemon sauce that you get on dolmas (stuffed grape leaves) at Lebanese restaurants that is fantastic (never put in the effort to make them, so I can't recommend a specific…
  • For those who don't know if you are getting a ripe or overripe avocado at the store, here's a tip that has worked really well for me. Peel the stem of the avocado off. If the circle beneath the stem is green, the avocado is perfect. If it is brown or black, it is past its prime.…
  • I modified the days of the week so that I start the cycle Wednesdays and end Sundays. That way, I don't have to worry about working out two days of my work-week. Just started this Wednesday and liking the workouts so far! My calves are killing me from all the jumping! I've been doing Orangetheory Fitness since January, so…
  • Love them! They are a healthy fat, which is an important part of nutrition. I probably eat 1 avocado/week. I love 1/4-1/2 an avocado spread on wheat toast with a sprinkle of sea salt and feta. Also a few slices with an egg white scramble, and fresh guacamole with lots of lime juice and cilantro on black bean tacos. Yum!
  • Coffee. I now sweeten mine with 12 drops of hazelnut flavored liquid stevia, plus about 1/4 cup almond milk. I do not recommend caffeine pills. I got very addicted to energy supplements I got from GNC; if I didn't take them I got awful headaches, and sometimes I got headaches even when I had them. I went cold turkey…
  • Thanks all! I think I'll try measuring the can before and after a few sprays. I know it will be negligible calories/fat, but I still want to be accurate if possible.
  • I really like the dark chocolate wedges from Trader Joe's. I believe they are 73% cacao, and 2 wedges equal a serving size. You can find them in tins by the registers.
  • You could try powdered peanut butter (PB2 or protein plus peanut flour) - it is lower in fat and calories. I really like it for smoothies, peanut sauces, etc. It can be good in a sandwich, though a little bland compared with the regular stuff (a touch of salt and/or honey can fix that). Personally, I like the protein plus…
  • Some Chinese restaurants have a healthy side of the menu, typically steamed chicken and veggies and the like. If not, I like to go with chicken or tofu with mixed vegetables and brown rice if possible. The sauce is usually a light gravy. I suppose you could ask for sauce on the side, but with 1000 calories in your bank,…
  • Allow one ounce high quality dark chocolate (70% cacao and up) daily. The darker chocolates actually have nutritional benefits and less sugar. A little goes a long way. If that is too bitter to start, try melting down and using in hot chocolate or covering in fruits like strawberries or oranges. Don't bother with the…
  • I love zucchini noodles. I eat them raw, so more like a cold pasta salad. Never tried cooking them, though I might once the weather cools down. They are really great with peanut sauces. Oh She Glows has an amazing raw pad thai recipe that I really love, it is refreshing and super yummy.
  • I don't really know about the other methods, but I got a lot of good info from bod pod testing.
  • Try writing out a schedule of what your typical day looks like with classes and ongoing commitments (job, weekly study group, etc). Remember to figure in the time you need for meals and studying. If you generally wake up and go to bed the same time every day, write that in. Try to find a few times 4-5 times/week that might…
  • If you eat it regularly, enter it as a recipe and then it is easy to log. I do that with my favorite smoothie recipe (literally written down as "Favorite Smoothie").
  • I'm a huge fan of beans and quinoa, and there are an easy place to start for vegetarian meals. You could do southwest stuffed bell peppers with black beans, quinoa, corn, tomatoes, and salsa. Tup with a bit of cheese and bake. Very filling and tasty. Black beans and brown rice are also great. You could serve them in tacos,…
  • Season with garlic salt and lime juice, let that sit for about 30 minutes. Then grill and serve with corn tortillas and salsa verde (or your favorite salsa). Yum!
  • Please don't try to copy The Biggest Loser or any other reality show. First off, those contestants are supervised by trainers and medical professionals. Second, think of how many probably lose their weight within 6 months to a year after the show ends, because they can't keep up the habits of working out all day and eating…
  • I agree with the others who say eat what you love in moderation. I'd add that you can probably learn to make some of the things you love or adapt them somehow. For example, bake your own fries at home instead of getting fast food fries. I think they taste way better, plus you can add whatever seasoning you like and make…
  • I just bought a bag of their baked snap peas. Yum!!! I also really like their mini brie bites. 70 calories for a little wedge of brie, perfect as a snack with some crackers or an apple. You get 5-6 in a bag I think.
  • I second the Mujadarrah suggestion. I've made a giant batch with brown rice, lentils, and caramelized onions. It is super yummy and filling, and it freezes really really well. Sometimes if I feel lazy I'll make tikka masala chick peas and carrots with Seeds of Change Tikka Masala sauce. It is really good for a bottled…
  • From Oh She Glows: http://ohsheglows.com/2013/07/01/rad-rainbow-raw-pad-thai/ 1 garlic clove 1/4 cup raw almond butter (I actually do half PB2 or Protein Plus Peanut Flour and half almond or peanut butter) 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice 2 tablespoons low-sodium tamari 2 tablespoons water (1-2 tablespoonds extra if you do…
