  • I definitely believe in QUALITY vs quantity. A 250 calorie twinkie is processed the same way as 250 calories of vegetables and protein. Though I will argue until the day I die that a twinkie tastes a lot better!
  • If you just recently really started paying attention to the sugar then it's likely that the loss is water weight. Sugar and grain bloats me. I always lose a fair bit in the beginning and then it levels out to real weight loss. I'd give it a few weeks and if you continue to lose at that rate perhaps dial back your efforts a…
  • I view eating disorders as incurable. Yes, you can recover from one, but like alcoholism, you'll always have it with you on some level. It's clear that you're experiencing disordered thinking, which is now affecting your daily life and interactions with people. Whether you're a healthy weight now, or not, now is the time…
  • It depends on what kind of traveling I'm doing. Most airports now have concessions that sell cheese and HB eggs, so I'll often opt for that with a side of nuts. In the car I'll either pack snacks or I'll buy nuts, cheese sticks and such at rest areas. If I really want to be bad I'll buy a bag of fritos...hey, they're…
  • No, you don't count the fiber in chia seeds against your gross carbs. For lack of a more simple description, there are carbs, fiber, and "fibercarbs". Fibercarbs (I made that up) are carbs and fiber that your body does not process like a carbohydrate. It's in these instances that we subtract fiber from gross carb count to…
  • Heart rate monitors and arm bands are notorious for overestimating the calories you burn. I have a number of friends who have gone this route and had issues with losing because they eat back those calories and they shouldn't.
  • 1. It's one day. Don't overindulge, but allow yourself to have some carbs while staying within your caloric budget. Stick to water or club soda with a splash of cranberry if you want something more festive. Fill your plate with turkey and green veg (broccoli, brussels, and spinach are good lower carb options). 2. You're…
  • Wine is made from grapes. And commercial liquor (NOT BEER) is so highly distilled that it's safe for people with grain intolerance.
  • I think this issue is where the difference between keto, paleo and primal come into the picture. Some people just do better on paleo/primal where they can have more complex carbs. I've heard this with women particularly. For whatever reason their body responds better (and they feel better overall) at 50+ grams vs sub 30…
  • LOL I totally agree. I don't prefer it, I just force myself to use it. In general I'm trying to stay away from sweets, so I use even the stevia sparingly.
  • 11/4- 148 11/15- 144 11/22- 142
  • I'd limit the nuts and but products like BTPB. In fact, when you're low carbing you WANT high fat. So BTPB isn't the best choice. If you have to have peanuts and cashews, eat whole nuts and measure portions and/or make your own full fat nut butter. But yea, I'd watch those overall while trying to increase your fat.
  • That's a really great idea gladpants.
  • Because I didn't know what she made exactly until I was at her house. She said beef and mushrooms with a side of potatoes, I wasn't expecting beef stew made with franken food. I got there, saw it, saw her in her 8month pregnant exhausted state and said "well crap, this sucks".
  • Two questions: 1. Have you taken measurements? How are your clothes fitting? 2. Are you eating enough fat and calories to account for the exercise you're doing? Where's your protein macro?
  • I'm not going to comment on your daily calories, but a high day would certainly help level things out at the weekly level in knows one people who swear by calorie cycling. But day to day I'd focus on more fat. Fat bombs are a tasty way to meet you fat macros and get your calories up.
  • If you're trying to lose then I'd aim for TDEE, less 20%.
  • It's not the best choice, though its approved with a 1g/packet carb count on Atkins and south beach. I prefer stevia and it doesn't cause a insulin reaction.
  • I just do the best I can and try and recreate the recipes in the system
  • I don't think she's ignorant per say. This was sort of a last minute dinner invitation and the meal was already in the crock pot. And she made such a point about the asta and such that I didn't have the heart to tell her it might be in the other ingredients, or to ask if she checked those. She's super pregnant with a high…
  • I prefaced my post by saying it doesn't work for everyone. It works for me on the occasion I need something.
  • I tried paleo a few months ago and missed dairy too much, so this go around I'm allowing it. I haven't noticed whether it interferes with my losing or not because I'm only a few weeks in. It does give me some digestive upset, so I will likely start to taper off of it as I progress with the program. But yea, during…
  • I'm sorry, but where did you hear that sub 30 was unhealthy? Atkins induction says sub 20 and the ketogenic diet is sub 20-30 as well. While the Atkins program says induction is only two weeks, thee are people who successfully continue it as a lifestyle. Same with the keto WOE. There are still carbohydrates they just come…
  • There are quite a few hard liquids that are zero carb. Vodka for one. Pair with club soda and lemon and you've got a zero carb drink. Same with light rum and diet coke
  • Are you counting calories? It might be a good time to start.
  • A few questions: How tall are you? It could be that you just don't have a ton to lose. I'm 5'6" and 151 is within normal weight (BMI) for me. Not that I want to be 151, but technically I'm "ok" weight wise. It's so much harder for me to lose at my size/height versus someone who has much more to lose than I do. How much…
  • So I know that diet sodas and the like aren't great in keto and could cause an adverse affect on weight loss, I find that a diet A&W root beer is a great treat if I need something at night. They sell it in 8oz mini cans and one is plenty to satisfy me when my boys are eating ice cream. If I want to make it extra special…
  • Last night I had a dream that featured carbs and a meal that had no carbless (or gluten free) options :( In the dream I reverted back to my old way of eating where I'd just eat what was available. I woke up feeling disappointed in myself :(
  • Give this calculator a shot http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/
  • I imagine it's related. Remember, the brain is affected by ketosis and learns how to use ketones for energy vs carbs. So it makes sense (to me anyway) that there could be some minor neuro affects as your body and brain chemistry adapt.
