I am 51 years old, on week 6 of a "Learn to Run" 13-week program that I found online. Today's long run was 5 minutes running, 1 minute walking, 7 times. This is quite an increase from previous long of 3 minutes running. Always do a five minute warm-up and cool-down walk, for a total workout of 52 minutes. My legs are…

Those were beautiful letters, thank you. I have had quite a week, starting with the 50K bike ride last Saturday that pushed me to the limit. Yet I didn't give up and completed it, learning more about myself in the process. Knowing when to push at times but also listening to your body is a fine balancing act! Otherwise,…

Awesome accomplishment! Congratulations!!

Re. where to log extra points. Maybe Sonia has alread added it after you wrote your note, but on my spreadsheet I see there is a box for "extra points" in cell E11. I just put one point for the bear walk for 3 minutes but that might have been in the wrong spot. How nice that your daughter was cheering you on with the…

Becky, Congratulations on sticking with the program and doing the work. Don't get discouraged! You are making changes and some weeks the scale leads with changes, other times it doesn't. I find slow and steady will win the race. If we push to see the numbers go down on the scale, but in unhealthy or by unsustainable…

It breaks you up, Sonia, I know it and have gone through it. There is no way around the unconditional comfort of a pet and the helplessness you feel as primary caregiver at this time. However, you are also the grateful recipient of all that unconditional companionship and appreciation! The furry bits add even more to the…

I need to get back into cooking with my crock pot! BUMP!

Good for you on the follow-up and I'm sure it was a bit of a surprise to get a response from the company! You're right - it makes quite the difference (too good to be true department). Where do you buy the frozen yogurt treats?

Becky, I lost 3 pounds total over the month (from 160 starting weight to current 157). I am seeing a direct correlation to planning meals, grocery shopping, eating consistently at home (and packing lunches) with my progress or lack of. I am also more aware of how much stress plays into my choices, particularly when I get…

Hello fellow team members! My name is Laura, I'm 51 years old, and I was part of the August challenge. Sonia is a great leader, IMHO, as she has a gift for communicating genuine care and support, but also can 'kick it up a notch' and get you motivated when need be, too. I nearly quit when I had a sudden death in the family…

My sister-in-law told me this week that she is going to sign on with MFP based on our commitment to the food journaling and results!

I will do 500 situps 500 JJ and 10 miles. Splitting up the squat jumps (done) from the globe jumps (tonight)!

I can definitely see a difference in your arms and legs in particular. You look great and all your hard work is paying off. Keep it up!

For a while there I thought I had landed in the middle of a Monty Python Dead Parrot routine.

Love the new hair cut and photo. Super cute!

I'll do 300 crunches this week. Just waking up from a 2-hour after work "crash nap" so I've still got to get the exercise challenge in. Hope I can fall asleep again as the alarm goes off at 5:00 AM. Welcome, Ang, to the team!

Thanks, found it. She was doing a lot of heavy breathing, lol!

Unless I'm getting a different link, I'm not understanding the wood chop one. The U-Tube video has someone using cables at the gym. If you just google "wood chop exercise" you get completely different exercises (one is a squat then raising one dumbbell straight up over your head) and another is a one-side pull down, again…

A suggestion would be to also track your fibre intake as that helps keep you full (along with lots of water).

I spent some time today trying on clothes in my closet that sit unused, waiting until I get down in weight. I was able to move a few pairs of pants to the 'wear now' section of my closet. I also have my nephew's wedding that is coming up in October and I try on the dress every once in a while to see how it is looking on…

Sonia: I have been weighing in on Monday mornings (August 1, 8, 15...etc).If Monday is too late for you to get all the stats completed, I don't mind shifting to reporting my weigh-in on Sunday morning instead. I don't like weighing myself in the evening as I'm always up in pounds. Just let us know.

I posted my "go-to" oatmeal recipe last Sunday but it's on the thread for week 1. So, here it is again: 1/2 cup quick cooking (not instant) oatmeal 2 dates (or prunes), chopped 5 almonds, chopped 1 cup boiled water 1/4 - 1/2 cup blueberries, frozen 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (optional) 2 Tbs ground flax seed…

I was shocked how many calories are in moussaka (greek dish with beef, eggplant and potatoes). Comfort food but not when it comes with a 550 calorie price tag!

I'm also from Maple Ridge, B.C.!

Squat kicks I think I can handle - I'm worried about those globe jumps later in the week - crazy!

Logging 13 miles. Nothing too unusual for this group but it was my first real ride as I'm just getting started!!!! I wrote on anther thread: Took the bike out today with DH for my first 'real ride.' Earlier in the week I just went around my neighborhood. Turns out I didn't understand how the gearing system works and was…

Angie: why not post a recipe that has worked well for you in terms of staying under calories and was healthy? My post (recipe) was pretty basic but it's been a "go-to" meal that has helped me stay on track for my weight reduction goals. That's what I'm interested in, at least, real recipes for real life.

Just a bit of an update. Took the bike out today with DH for my first 'real ride.' Earlier in the week I just went around my neighborhood. Turns out I didn't understand how the gearing system works and was riding around in 15th gear instead of 5th gear on relatively flat areas!:embarassed: I was wondering why it was so…
