  • Try the Epicurious Stuffed Red Bell Peppers stovetop recipe. It has much better texture than the baked. The meat is not sautéed first which keeps it moist. Just replace ground beef with turkey and white rice with brown. I replaced half the sweet paprika with hot and used canned Italian tomatoes instead of tomato sauce.…
  • Try doing a classic okra/corn/tomato side dish. I like to broil or roast sliced okra, grape tomatoes, corn off the cob, chopped onions, bell pepper, sometimes add garlic or jalepenos. Broil/roasting okra keeps the sweetness and flavor in and the slime out. Can do ahead and reheat or just serve at room temperature.
  • It is there now for the iphone 3G....new, love it. SO quick and easy.
  • Whole Foods 365 Veggie Straws....addictive. 40 (FORTY!) straws is only 130 calories, 0.5 sat fat, 280 mg sodium
  • Kellogg's Bite Sized Mini Wheats....6 g fiber, 10 mg sodium, 1 g sugar, zero sat fat.
  • Egg white omelet with sauteed onions, artichoke hearts and mushrooms. Every other day I have Total cereal with skim or lot fat goat milk....gets all nutrients and calcium for day in one meal.
  • I made a quick low cal egg foo yung for lunch yesterday. Saute onions, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, bok choy (and/or any other vegetables you have around) in a touch of canola and sesame oil with some chopped ginger and garlic. Add soy and a touch more sesame oil to egg whites and pour over veg. in small…
  • Thank you cmriverside, I checked out your 'sugar is not your friend' thread but my question, and comment requested from Fitness Pal, remains. The sugar goal of 24 seems too low if it is total sugar. Even a moderate amount of no-added sugar dairy products, fresh vegetables and a small amount of fresh fruit would put most…
  • Thanks to everyone so far. I checked 'progress/nutrition' and for the last 90 days I have mostly been under 40g total sugar, never over 60 g. I don't add sugar, honey or agave...but sometimes have one dark chocolate (mini Dove). Perhaps checking total carbs (which should include natural sugars) would be better. If someone…
  • OXO has the best one, even America's Test Kitchen says so. It has features none of the others have, like being able to separate the flat part of the scale from the visual part so if you have something large you can still see the weight. Has all the other bells and whistles also. I bought one on sale at Macy's the other w/…
  • WalkingGirl: Just noticed....it shows you have 182 posts and lost 38 pounds, since Sept 2010. Is that possible, since we are only halfway through October?? 'My fiance uncle'? Is this a joke/hoax?
  • I forgot to mention....Do NOT store potatoes and onions near each other. The gases interact and they will both go bad quicker.
  • We live in South Florida so there is no place cool to store potatoes, even in the winter. If I leave them on the counter they get soft and moldy so I always put them in the refrigerator. Do NOT put them in a zip loc, they need air. If they are 'leaking juice' or turned color they probably smell and I would throw them out.…
  • It is a frustration for me, too. Sticking to 1200 cal/day, good mix of healthy fats/carbs/proteins, no junk. Some exercise-more than before I started. Been keeping track of every morsel for 90 days........lost about 5 pounds in first two months, but nothing since then. Goal was to lose 15, would settle for another 5…
  • I haven't found predictions to be true. I started keeping track 10 weeks ago and have a 1200 calorie goal. I have only been over or under by more than 100 calories a few times, yet it keeps showing I should be between 5 and 10 pounds lighter than I am. Disappointing.
  • Even easier, faster and less mess: Mix salsa and (low fat shredded mexican) cheese in with meat before shaping patties and grilling...Patties can even be individually frozen before cooking then, when ready, defrost and grill.
