  • I have had an Oura ring for almost 2 years and just recently upgraded to the Gen3 ring. It is not linked to mfp, nor do I intend to link it (my Garmin (Fenix 6s) is linked). My ring is linked to my HRV4Training, Bearable and possibly somewhere else that I can’t remember right now. I use it as a recovery monitor as it…
  • Did you attach any kind of expectations to your life after reaching a healthy weight? Even subconsciously? It could be expectations that you would be happy, feel successful, be treated differently, better romantic/career prospects, or any number of things you expected (even subconsciously) to improve? It could be…
  • I stand firmly behind flip belt. I have the zipper one. I have the largest iPhone and carry fuel/gels, water, all kinds of other crap and an external battery for very long runs. I’ve never had anything fall out or have the belt slip/drop/shift/chafe. It’s comfortable and holds everything I need for most runs.
  • Two rest days per week. I am the final peak weeks training for an ultra and running about 50-60 miles a week in the other 5 days. Even when I’m not running this much mileage, I still have 2 full rest days per week (but my training would include more than just running). My training plans are heavily focused on recovery. I…
  • In addition to the fueling, you may want to plug your info into this calculator (which gives ranges for training paces as well as race prediction): https://www.mcmillanrunning.com/ FWIW, your long runs are going to be slower than your race pace. They should be. You will be tapered and rested for the race-not logging…
  • 3 stone by October is a massively aggressive goal under any circumstances - never mind while marathon training. The reason it’s difficult to lose weight while training for a marathon is that your body needs fuel to complete and properly recover from your runs. Early in the training, you will probably be able to manage a…
  • What will your app offer that Strava doesn’t? I don’t intend that as a mean comment, I am asking as a genuine question. As a Strava user with all those features and an extensive user base and integration with nearly every relevant (and many non-relevant) third party services, what would lure me to your app?
  • I wear Vionic shoes for everything non running and wear a rigid orthotic to run. I run in a low, but not zero drop shoe. Others I know have had their PF flare in lower drop shoes and had it go away when they swapped back to higher drop shoes. I run roughly eleventh billion miles a year. I do as many on soft surface as I…
  • Every time I eat, my Garmin thinks I’m on the elliptical and Fitbit thinks I’m swimming. I don’t eat THAT vigorously.
  • Exactly. I typically get 50-150 calories per hour over what my resting rate would be. That varies considerably depending on what I’m playing. That doesn’t seem unreasonable for the amount of moving I’m actually doing, and it has worked for me for almost a decade. So I’m good with how it’s working.
  • I am a classical musician (string player) and I have worn my trackers on my left and right wrists at various times. I do not take them off when I play-not even for something like Les Mis (which is a solid 3+ hours of playing with no breaks in between songs, no dialogue, a few measures of rest here and there, but it’s a…
  • Another vote for more time/distance to build endurance and that will help your pace without you even doing anything special for it. Whatever is comfortable for you (following a structured run/walk like C210k, slowly building a little time/distance, one hour runner or just a regular 10k training plan) will be fine. My…
  • The .3 x weight x miles (and the .6 for running) came from a Runner’s World article that is no longer available. But it was based on a gross calorie burn of .5 x weight x miles - leaving the .3 as the net calorie burn. If I subtract my BMR from the .5 x weight x miles, I end up higher than .3. Some others put it to the…
  • Yes I joined. Because someday I will see evidence that someone actually wins one of these prizes. Somehow. I have logged everything since my first day on mfp 9+ years ago, so it didn’t make any difference in my logging or not. But, nothing really happens when you join a challenge. Half the time I get 3/4 of the…
  • Confirming that messages with FR no longer come through. That’s been a feature for months. For a time, they sometimes showed up on the web or app (but not both and not consistently), but they haven’t come through at all in months. But the bots aren’t hard to find on the website (check all the profile pics). 99.9% of my FR…
  • You may find a DVD or YouTube option for that jives with you under search options such as plus size yoga, bigger body yoga, maybe searching for morbidly obese or something as well? They may have flows designed to use poses that are more agreeable to larger bodies and limit or eliminate those that aren’t as agreeable. Every…
  • What kind of fitness tracked? I have several that assess fitness level via an estimate of vo2max - which is only estimated during certain types of activities (generally running or maybe walking or biking outdoors). If you’re not doing those kinds of activities (generally at least a few times within a couple of weeks), it’s…
  • When I had mine out a couple years ago, I had protein powder pureed with cottage cheese (like pudding but lots of protein), I also made protein cheesecake, and for the first few days I ate instant mashed potatoes pureed with cauliflower, white beans and baby food with puréed chicken in it. Given that it looked like gruel…
  • I track as many things as is reasonable and relatively easy. Also things that can me measured with reasonable level of repeatability (the same way/level of accuracy every time). That gives me the best likelihood of seeing progress...somewhere. Perhaps my weight is going down, perhaps my clothing size is a little smaller,…
  • I’ve tracked everything since I joined mfp 9+ years ago. I don’t anticipate stopping anytime soon. I look at my calorie budget the same way I look at my financial budget. With my age, size and level of activity, my calorie budget is kind of a minimum wage situation - where my tastes and “cues” are more champagne wishes and…
  • I have the X. I can’t recommend wahoo more. I’ve been using the same one for many years (I’ve replaced the strap several times). It connects to BT and Ant+ Simultaneously without issue and stays connected (I have general BT issues with my phone-I’ve never had problems with the HRM specifically). I’ve connected it to…
  • I have both (Apple Watch series 4 and an assortment of Fitbits). Fitbit is less expensive by quite a bit. It also has substantially longer battery life. Fitbit also has weekly challenges that are much more accessible in my circle (zero of my IRL friends have Apple Watch and only a couple online, where I’m in 3-5 Fitbit…
  • I’m just going to add that he can’t copy/add your actual recipe from the recipe builder where you put in your ingredients. He CAN copy (using all of the above instructions) the serving of the recipe from your diary to his diary (just as he can copy any other food entry from your diary to his diary). So he will have 1…
  • Idk. According to Garmin I did 530 hours of workouts last year which burned 190k calories. So 3500/week on average? But I ran 2 marathons plus a 50k last year so that’s probably higher than normal. I am recovering from Disney Dopey now so closer to 0 currently. I’m maintaining on 1600-ish cal/day right now. That is 11,200…
  • One last thing to try...make sure that Fitbit has also disconnected. You disconnected it on mfp, but there may still be a lingering permission at Fitbit that is the Hangup (Fitbit may still be trying to send things to mfp).
  • It’s not double counting. Garmin’s “active calories” is the number of calories you have burned while being ... active. That will include walking around your house, doing chores, playing with the kids/dog - anytime you’re not resting. This is not the same as MFP’s exercise calories. The numbers should not match. That…
