It was an accident (pics)
I’d love to say that I started all of this because of health concerns or because I was tired of being fat, or because I wanted to look good, or anything that begins so many inspiring stories. The truth is, I started completely by accident – because of a squirrel. Most of this is in my profile, but here's a recap: I ran in…

My First 1,000 Days
Today is my 1,000th day on myfitnesspal; my 1,000th day of logging every bite of food (yes, every one, every day); my 1,000th day of working toward being a better me. I was morbidly obese. I weighed in at 233 pounds, I struggled to move, I wore size 22/24 (and was beginning to “outgrow” those), I smoked a pack or more a…

Distance vs. Time
My plan is primarily time-based with mileage listed to simplify things and as a basic guide for approximate distance that should be getting covered. I'm supposed to have been doing 3 runs do approx 60/45/75 min from which I'm now to build to 75/60/90 min (then add in a 4th day then build to 90/60/75/120). That's where I'm…

300 cal Ooey gooey burrito stuffed peppers (with pics)
I was looking for a way to use up some quinoa (which I don't really care for) and stumbled across a couple of recipes for stuffed peppers. I embellished those recipes and ended up with something that tastes a lot like burrito filling in a pepper. It was surprisingly tasty. Ingredients: 1 cup dried black beans…

Strength Training with a broken butt
I fell down the stairs in spectacular fashion and have bruised my tailbone. My strength training program is stronglifts 5x5 (modified to 3x5 twice a week as running is my focus). Due to my tailbone issues, sitting, bending, squatting and laying on my back are very uncomfortable. So that leaves me with overhead press as…

1200 Can Be a Great Thing!
When it's your lifetime running mileage. 775 days ago, I created my mfp account as a morbidly obese person who couldn't walk more than 3 minutes without gasping for breath. With tonight's run, my lifetime mileage hit 1202. I didn't ever dream that I would wear a size six, or be planning my race schedule for the year. I'm…

Photos of your home gyms
I'm feeling the need to go all hgtv on my windowless basement home gym (poor photo in profile). So I'm wondering if anyone has pics they would share of whatever their set up is. I'm just looking for design inspiration and/or suggestions.

Bodymedia not syncing
I went to the technical support area, but the new setup for that doesn't have any way to report a problem (that I could find). So I'm checking here. My bodymedia is only syncing if I unlink and relink the accounts each time I sync. That's annoying, but I'm not sure if others are having troubles or if I'm a special…

Bodymedia and biking
I have a link armband which I adore. I know recording biking is a weakness of all the activity trackers, but I'm wondering if anyone with a bodymedia armband has found a way to record biking. I've had a few rides where it seemed to record properly (wearing on my arm like normal). I've had many more rides where it records…

Must I do all my lifting at once?
I work at home, and workout at home (or on the roads) and often do my workouts in between meetings or while I'm waiting for jobs to run. When it comes to running, I know that two separate three mile runs is not exactly the same as one six mile run. But what about lifting? I'm doing stronglifts 5x5, which consists of 5 sets…

Will squats make my @ss bigger?
As you can sort of see from my poor profile pic, I've got some pancake flat topography going on in the @ss department. I've heard that "heavy" squats can significantly improve that. I posted as such on my wall and a friend mentioned that she too was hoping for improvement in that area, but she's looking to do the opposite…

Bodymedia LINK battery life
I just got my Bodymedia link and it's the coolest thing ever. I'm traveling for business next week and would love to bring it with me. I'm not planning to bring my personal computer and won't be able to charge the armband. I will be gone about 3 1/2 - 4 days. Will the battery last? Are there things I can do (or not do) to…

If your primary motivation is "done" and you kept going...
I'll start by saying I'm not hurting in the motivation department; I'm doing my thing just like I have been. But my primary driving motivation is gone (which is actually a very good thing). So for those that were primarily motivated by something that no longer exists (or has already happened-like a wedding or…

Running-when does the speed come?
Today is my runniversary. A year ago, I could barely run for 30 seconds (heart rate about 170!). Now, my long runs are about 2 hours (heart rate 135-145). Yay-go me. Everywhere I read, it says to run at a conversational/easy pace and over time, your pace will naturally improve (presumably as your aerobic conditioning…

Why can't I eat at night?
I've spent WAY too much time on these forums today, but I've seen at least 7 people emphatically state that you shouldn't eat x number of hours before you go to bed (x being 2/3 hrs or a cutoff of 7/8pm which I'm assuming translates to 2/3/4 hrs before bed). I will eat a total of 1500 calories today. I'm eating about 650…

Help! My long run fatally wounded my treadmill
I run a painfully slow (but getting marginally faster) 20-25 miles/5-6 hrs a week almost exclusively on the treadmill for safety & other reasons. My treadmill shuts itself off at 100 minutes (which seems to be pretty common), so I've kept my long run to 100 minutes for that reason alone. Today I decided it was time to just…
