  • The best answer to this question is just to replace grains with larger portions of meat and vegetables. You don't need grains and they cause more problems than they are worth.
  • I cut out all soda, and most bread and sugar. Then weaned off snacks, and eliminated breakfast. So, I only eat 2 meals a day. Basically, it's intermittent fasting. I've worked up to eating my 2 meals between 11am and 4pm and I'm never hungry. I still eat out sometimes. I definitely don't work out as much as you do! I'm…
  • I didn't know you could buy beet juice. I bought some powdered beet drink. I only drink it once a week. I will try more often. I would love to get off my BP meds.
  • Before I started IF I was very regular, I knew exactly when I would have a BM every morning. Now I'm on a 20:4 IF schedule and I will go 2 or 3 days without a BM. If it gets past 3 days, I drink a glass of water with 1 tablespoon of Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulfate). In the past I used to use laxative tea, but that takes…
  • I think I'll join the MFP Strava club. I'm probably finished cycling for the year. In 2020 I did the Trek 100 (etc) mile challenge, and worked hard to get in 100 miles, since I'm very overweight. At one point I had to go to the ER because I wasn't getting enough salt due to the sweating, etc. When it was all over I was so…
  • I have ortho problems in one of my legs that really limits my walking. If I walk a quarter mile I'm in incredible pain in that leg. But I found that I can pretty easily ride my bike. Of course, I did not have a stroke, and have 2 good arms. I just thought I'd put that out there. I am riding an Electra Townie with the…
  • You don't say what number you got, but I lowered mine 10% by adding black beans to my diet. The reason I added black beans was because I was adding more vegetables into my diet and made a black bean, rice, tomato and corn dish several days a week. I no longer do that (I'm doing IF with low carbs right now) and it went back…
  • I used to have one of those. The good one let you put weights on the back. Health rider is one name for them.
  • I think this has happened to lots of people, but I think I gained more than most. I gained 20 during covid work from home time. Then I retired and gained 5 more. :( So, yesterday I started using Dr. Jason Fung guidelines. I'm working on my first step of cutting out sugar. After I get a handle of on that, I will start…
  • Regarding bloodwork, I use directlabs.com and order the tests myself. I order a basic workup every January, and when I was watching my cholesterol, I could just buy that one test and see how I was doing. (Interestingly, going vegan for 2 months had no effect on my cholesterol, but eating beans reduced it by 10% in a short…

  • I use coffeemate french vanilla. I just make sure I know how much I'm putting in the coffee and log it. Since I know how many calories it is, now. I use a lot less. ;)
  • That's kind of what I was thinking. I guess I was just hoping there was something good out there. Just adding it in for about a week until I get back on track. I've been eating terrible lately. too much stress.
  • I would love to do vegan keto. I will have to look into the book. Please keep us updated.
  • Sometimes when I'm shopping I'll see something and think, that looks good. One example, Lemon creme pie. I bought one of those 2 slice packs. After I ate it I asked myself, was that worth it? The answer was, no. So I didn't buy it again.
  • I don't know the answer, but I love eggs. I would eat about 2 dozen in a week as my only protein source. I also have CVD and have given up most meat because of it. Then there is the sugar conspiracy. Is it really the fault of sugar and not eggs? I don't know if that's the answer, either, but I have also cut back a lot on…
  • I have some mild arteriosclerosis and found that eating too much of the wrong protein has a negative effect on me. Most recently it was a juicy cornish game hen. :( So, check with the doctor.
  • Thanks, Everybody. I bought the Fitbit Inspire HR last night. It does what I want, and then some. I just wish I could turn it off when I'm not wearing it so I don't get those bogus data points in my graph.
  • I also found that IF was a great way to break the snacking habit.
  • My friend says fats, but she is on Keto. I am not. What I do is make sure I eat every 2.5 to 3 hours during the day. I will have a 100 calorie snack so I don't get hungry before the next meal. Try to make sure that 100 calories is balanced between carbs and protein. I think that's why somebody invented peanut butter…
  • Doctors never recommend dietitians/nutritionists. They just want us to pop pills. Have you tried using MFPs macro calculator? It will calculate how much of your diet should be from carbs, proteins and fats. It's under Goals. Then track your food and follow that for a couple of days, then adjust as needed. I have adjusted…

  • Cutting sodium will cause me to lose a pound of day. One day I ate a dill pickle and gained 5 pounds from the water retention. It was a rare splurge. The fast food place made a mistake with my order.
  • For breakfast, oatmeal with cinnamon. For dinner, eggs with rice and vegetables, just mixed all together.
  • The problem with Asian foods, including Thai, is the high sodium in their sauces. :( Just look at the label of a bottle of fish sauce.
