Tips for shorties losing weight
Copying this over from a forum thread, mostly as a reminder to myself... and also in case it serves as motivation for anyone else in here. I'm 5'1" and recently hit the 155 mark on the scale, which is the most I've ever weighed and not a number I'd like to see there for very long. In my teens and early 20s I could maintain…

What was your rate of weight loss?
Weight loss ain't linear. We all know that. There are stops and starts, plateaus, and of course the rate of loss slows as you get closer and closer to your goal. Just curious: Those of you who have lost weight, what was the pace of your loss? Did you start off quickly and then slow down? Did you plateau a lot? Did it take…

I've had it with my Fitbit Charge HR
Having the same issues as the people in these threads: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/iOS-App/Charge-HR-clock-wrong-won-t-sync-and-won-t-set-up/td-p/1066753 . https://community.fitbit.com/t5/iOS-App/Fitbit-Charge-HR-Won-t-completely-Sync/m-p/1085230/highlight/false#M31006 Wrong time displaying, trouble syncing, missing…

Getting multiple calorie adjustments per day
Fitbit's sync has been off for me the past few days. It keeps giving me multiple calorie adjustments per day, and they add up to way off from what the actual adjustment should be. It doesn't seem to resolve itself overnight, either, as this goes back a few days. Is anyone else getting the same bug?

Top non-food or exercise tips for success
For something a little different, here are a few non-food or exercise related tips I think would be super helpful for people trying to lose weight via a calorie-counting approach like MFP. Feel free to add your own. * Take a statistics class. Nope, I'm not kidding. An introductory stats course -- if you've never taken one…

Fitbit lawsuit: Hmmmm...
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out: http://www.today.com/health/fitbit-lawsuit-alleges-heart-rate-monitors-are-inaccurate-misleading-t65956 For what it's worth, I haven't tracked my Charge HR against any other heart rate monitor to test it for accuracy. But I can tell that it's not 100% accurate by any means.…

Short, relatively small women in long-term maintenance
I'm 5'1" and recently hit my goal weight after losing 50 pounds this past year. I'm aiming to maintain between 105-110lbs (I'm currently at 106), all the while working on fitness and strength goals to keep motivated. I think that maintenance for us small shorties presents certain specific challenges. For instance, our…

Calories lower with Charge HR than with Flex?
I just upgraded my Fitbit Flex to a Charge HR. (Yay, Black Friday deals!) One thing I've noticed almost immediately is that I'm getting, on average, 10% fewer calories from regular daily activities than I was with my Flex. As a result, I'm getting about 100 fewer calories per day. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it…

Fellow chocoholics?
I *love* chocolate. Since getting my act together about food, I am doing my best to limit the quantity and only eat high quality chocolate. But I could never imagine giving up chocolate altogether. And why would I? It's tasty, makes me happy, and hey, it could even have health benefits!…

8 months in, 40 pounds down, GOAL MET!
I started back here at MFP (for the umpteenth time) almost eight months ago. Today, when I stepped on the scale, I saw the initial goal weight I'd set for myself. In this time, I've lost:* 40 pounds * 7.6 points on the BMI index * 17 percentage points of body fat * 4 clothing sizes * 7 inches from my waist and 8 from my…

Weird and surprising things about weight loss
I've lost 40 pounds in the past 8 months and just hit my goal weight for the first time today. Along the way, I've discovered that I have more energy, feel more comfortable in my own skin, and have gained both health and confidence. However, there are just some *really* weird and unexpected things that happened, too. Such…

Kevin Smith on happiness: "There is no end game."
Saw this on Facebook today, posted by the great Kevin Smith. It resonated. "Life is about the journey, not the destination - so while the idea of happiness sounds great, it’s actually the pursuit of happiness that provides the most contentment. And in that pursuit, we are ultimately at our happiest." Yep. So much this.

Damned genetics: When the weight comes off from all the wrong places
I've lost nearly 35 pounds since last fall. Did it come off from my waist, belly, butt, hips or thighs? Nope. Well, some, but those areas are still plenty big, especially my hips. Yep, pear shaped petite, here. Even though I'm 5'1" / 120lbs, I'm still wearing size 8 pants and skirts, and I still have ungainly fat rolls…

Interesting quiz: What's your Habit Personality?
Link in the New York Times blog to the Habit Personality quiz by Gretchen Rubin here: well.blogs.nytimes.com//2015/03/26/take-the-habit-personality-quiz/ Like with most "which type are you?" quizzes, this is pop psychology and most people have a mix of all four. But, as long as you don't take it too seriously, it can be…

Body-positive celebs: Good for them
The latest in a line of celebrities firing back at internet criticism about their weight? Pink, who wrote this awesome tweet and signed it "love, cheesecake": mashable.com/2015/04/13/pink-body-image/?utm_cid=mash-com-fb-main-link I'm not really a pop music fan and I don't much care for her music, but I love the message.…

Breakfast smoothie ideas?
I've never really been the breakfast smoothie type. But my office just bought a blender for employee use, and I'm wondering if I should try to be a bit creative. We keep milk stocked in the fridge. Anything else, I'd have to bring in myself. Any recipe ideas that would be relatively easy to prepare at work?
