What do you love most about your gym?
I get so tired of seeing negative threads asking what annoys you. So let's turn it around! What do you love the most about your gum or fitness center? 1. My trainer gives me workouts that push me, but don't crush me. 2. Lots of positive feedback from my fitness friends who notice & comment on my progress. 3. It's 5 min…

This pic from the 2010 Winter Olympics just popped up on my Facebook feed. This is me 120 pounds less, December 2015.

C25K app glitchy?
I used c25k app for first time today (during a walk as I still have chest congestion). After starting the app, I pushed the lock button on my iPhone 4s before putting the phone in my holder. I do this do nothing gets pressed accidentally. But then I got no prompts from the app, although I could hear my music. Then I went…

Don't "Start Over"
Lots of people post that they are starting over, beginning again, or getting back on wagon. Here's something to think about: DON'T!! I dont mean not to lose weight, I mean don't think about it as starting over. I think that creates too much drama and can create a mindset that you're a failure, so you need to start over.…

Water weight--always with us?!
People are always stressing out about excess water weight and how long it will take you to lose it. But if you eat out once a week or more, and you do challenging workouts, or new exercises, several times a week, then aren't you always likely to be carrying several extra pounds of water weight, in addition to the "normal"…

Older runners?
Who has started running in their 50s or 60s, having never run before? I'd be curious about your experience, how you progressed, any problems, etc. Two of my friends, began running around age 60. They admittedly pushed too hard and both ended up with serious injuries (ruptured achilles & blown out knee). Now that I'm close…

Body fat % error?
I know that a bod pod or hydro tank are the only accurate ways to measure body fat percentage. I plan to get this done when I get close to 25% but don't want to spend the $ until then. So my question is, what is the average range of error for body fat percentages on scales? Is it just 1-2 percent or typically much more…

Body fat percentage error?
I know that bod pod of hydro tank are the only accurate ways to measure body fat. But I don't really want to pay for this until I think I'm close to the ideal of 25%. So my question is, what is the margin of error in scale measurements of body fat? Just a few % points or more than that? In late Nov the scale said 31% And…

What constitutes a warm up?
One of my fitness class instructors doesn't do what I consider a proper warm up. She just tells us to take it easy on the first 100 or so reps which involves 4 exercises, done on different muscle groups. This is all TRX work like squats, rows, chest press etc. It never feels the same to me as when the owner/head trainer…

TRX equivalents of "strong lifts"?
What would be the TRX equivalents of the 5 strong lifts? A few are easy, but a few have me stumped: row=TRX row bench press=TRX chest press squat= TRX squat deadlift = TRX ___ (I know the TRX one legged deadlift, but how do you get the resistance up?) OHP =TRX Y-fly? Thanks for your thoughts!

Neck friendly ab work?
Ab Crunches have always bothered my neck, but now that I've had a muscle spasm in my neck for several weeks, I can't do crunches or anything else that requires me to be on my back & lift my head without significant pain. I also have arthritis in my neck. My trainer gave me a couple of alternatives for abs--reverse crunches…

Book suggestions?
I would like to find a book about an elite athlete who suffered serious injury and their journey to recovery. This would be a gift for someone who is injured and needs some encouragement. Any ideas?

Whoosh!
This is what a Whoosh! looks like. Nearly a month of almost no change, then down 4 pounds in less than a week. Didn't really change anything, this is just the way my body works and I've come to expect it. Not that I "like" it, but it is what it is and the trend is going the right direction. (This is from the iPhone app…

How I've avoided plateaus
I wrote up the following info for one of my MFP friends who asked some questions. I thought I would share it with the larger community in case there is anything that helps someone. It's long, so if you are looking for a magic bullet, don't waste your time reading this because there are none. :) Again, this is what I've…

Gluten free tips
I am thinking about trying gluten free or reduced gluten to see if it helps with some specific issues. (PLEASE DO NOT say, "There is nothing wrong with gluten and eating gluten free will not make you lose weight." I understand this!) What is the most practical way to begin making changes, as in which foods to eliminate…

Tip: Ring guard
If your rings are getting loose, you can get a "ring guard" from a jeweler. It is a little band that the jeweler applies inside the back of the ring and has 2 tabs he wraps around the band to hold it in place. It is not visible from the front of the hand and barely visible from the back. It is somewhat springy so adjusts…

Discouraged after first yoga class
I was so looking forward to trying yoga and my fitness studio us offering free classes this week. I was actually able to do most of the poses ok, but I could not tolerate being on my knees for the first 30 min straight. I had 3 mats and the pressure on my knees was too painful. This is a chronic prob of mine not an injury.…
